Even though it is COVID impact. This store is slow and the help does not move with any urgency to keep lines in and outside of the store moving. Suggest not to bother if there is a line outside of the store. It's not worth the wait which can easily be in excess of 5-10 minutes per group/persons I line. read more

Ala Moana sadly doesn't have much sale items. Let's be realistic, I wouldn't drive down here just for that maybe have a lunch/dinner at kuru kuru then shop in here. Maybe I'll find some nice things on sale. Better yet if they have more bobble head kitty for my car. Hello Kitty Air freshener? Yes pls! This location is a bit smaller than Ala Moana and seems to look cluttered. There's a lot of workers who in my opinion kind of just stand there. They go without greeting you or thanking when exiting. Came here for the JJB x Tokidoki Queen's Court Trunk Show yesterday. When I asked one of the employees how they run it she said it was "First come first serve" and there was only one person ahead of me *yay!* I browsed the store and was impressed by their selection- it was the only store I've seen stateside with Sanrio products from Japan. I purchased an Annual Planner/Diary and hand fan which had my favorite character, Pochacco. Then sat at a table outside the store to patiently wait until 7pm. More or less 30mins prior to the trunk show the employee that assisted me came out and told me there was a line forming inside. I went in and the person who arrived AFTER me tried to insist they were 2nd in line. I'm glad that the employee corrected her and said I was 2nd. They didn't receive all of the bags that were ordered and said they'll be posting updates to their stock on Instagram. Excellent customer service, clean store and great selection- I'll be back...especially if they carry that Pochacco rolling carryon I spied on the Instagram feed :) read more

Situated in Kahala Mall, if you enter from the entrance nearest to Whole Foods, this is on the wing near the crepe/gelato kiosk. I like to dub this area, "kid center" because they're surrounded by Fun Factory, and various other toy stores. Apparently, this is one of the last Sanrio stores left on Oahu. They have HELLO KITTY galore here. If you're looking for gifts, or cute stationary they have tons of kawaii stuff. I saw they had some Sailor Moon + My Melody collab items! I ended up purchasing a little coin purse for my brother because he's OBSESSSSED with Badtz Maru, but it seems they're phasing him out because he didn't have MUCH selection compared to other characters like Gudutama, Cinnaroll, or HK (of course). Prices are really pricy, but they have a clearance rack. I am surprised they didn't have a Girl's day sale, or anything to celebrate it. Either that, or the sales associates didn't let us know. Which brings me to the next part of the review. There looked to be 3 sales associates on duty, and they were busy chatting w/ each other instead of assisting the shoppers. I noticed not many people made a purchase either, maybe if they offered help or pointed out something on sale? *Shrug* Note: I think I might be the only person that hates Hello Kitty, and thinks the store is TOO PINK lol. read more

One star only cause of their horrible customer service. Always spend over $50 or more and some how customer services is really horrible. There's like a younger girl who looks like she's still in high school and a bigger lady who looks grumpy and never talks. While shopping all I could was them talking about their life stories to each other and laughing. Not once was we asked if we were doing okay, nor did the bigger lady apologized for her step stool which was in the way while we were trying to look around. Mind you we were the only ones in the store. The bigger lady just looked at us upset like we were bothering her. I wish there were more Sanrio stores located in Hawaii but I guess shopping online would be better than dealing with a grumpy lady. read more

I was so excited to go to the hello kitty store on the island. In pictures it looked so much bigger with many more options but it was actually very small and few options I did purchase 5 items but not to much to really Choose from sadly I kinda was expecting more but the counter girls seemed new and I didn't want to bother them to much. This has to be my favorite Sanrio store. You can find something for everyone in this store. At one point they were even selling domo items and my bf LOVES domo almost more than i love hk. What I like most is they even bring in exclusive hk items from Japan. They offer a wide variety of things. If you see something you like buy it because it might not be there the next time. Nice shop with friendly workers and lots of fun stuff to buy. Must try: Save up your stamp cards you can get $5 off when you fill it up and even pile up the cards up to like 5 cards which is $25! read more

How can you not love Hello Kitty!?! Every girl had some favorite Sanrio character growing up. I was all about Hello Kitty and Kerokeropi. Still am. *_* This is one of the smaller Sanrio stores, but they sure do pack in a lot of stuff. I mean a lot! It can be overwhelming when you walk in. You just don't know where to begin! i tend to start front left, head towards the back (where they have the SALE items), and then down the right side to the front, down the middle and then to the cashier. I think that made sense. If you are a frequent shopper like me, you know when you see an item PICK IT UP! Purchase it right away. Because if you come back looking for it, it's gone! And they usually won't bring it back. Had that happen to me on a couple of occasions. This is my #1 go to place for Sanrio items. You can get them at other stores but its just not the same to me. Stamp Card: They changed the rules!! Used to be for every $1.00 you spend you get a stamp. Now it's, every $5.00 you spend you get 1 stamp. When you fill up the card (30 stamps=$150.00), you get a $5.00 reward towards and minimum $5.00 purchase. Watch out for the double stamp days, usually on Wednesdays. That's always nice. Staff: The ladies here are very friendly and helpful. Always greeting you with a hello and a smile. The owner is very nice. I always see her helping out the customers or restocking the shelves. read more

The bf teases me about knowing the HK theme song, but hey, I'm a lifer what can I say? I've even been to Puroland - a HK theme park in Japan. (Which, btw, is totally fantastic!) Anyhow, this is the BEST Sanrio store on the island. It looks small from the outside, but they carry soooo much merchandise! I like that they switch it up often, but wonder where the stock goes... They still occasionally carry characters like Twin Stars and the Shinkansen. I have stamp cards from back when $25 filled them up (*cough cough* I think they are circa 1980s), which they said that they will honor if I can find them. Now you have to spend $150 to fill them up. I guess the Sanrio prices have gone up too over the years, so it's probably comparable. Anyhow, this store has survived the closing of both the Daiei and Hawaii Kai locations and it's way, way better than Ala Moana. I haven't been to the Aiea one in a long time, so I'm not 100% sure about it having more variety than that one. Besides T&C and the movie theater, it's the best thing on that side of Kahala Mall. If you like Sanrio, this store is a must. Bonus: the staff is always very friendly and nice. I feel like I see the same people even if don't go for months at a time. However, I never feel judged for being an adult and being uber excited for buying a HK soap dispenser where the arms flap when you get soap. Next stop in Japan: Harmonyland!! (Another HK theme park.) Hint: sometimes there are sales in the back. Don't wait for an item you want to go on sale however, since it probably won't. read more

I am a HUGE sanrio fan-- since 1983!!! This location is by far my most favorite. It's packed with goods, and always has the latest items. They also carry some San-X items too! And look for the great sale section in the back! Only con is It's very small -- especially if you're pushing a stroller. read more

Where else can you fork over $15 for a Snoopy pen? No where! Yes Sanrio has suckered me in many times over the course of my 26 years on this Earth. I love everything here... I can spend hours just looking at each and every pen. I love pens! I also have sought out wallets here on many occasions... my husband can testify! I am glad I have a patient husband... any other guy would be like "umm hello wifey haven't you spent enough TIME and MONEY here already? we've been here for over an hour and you haven't picked anything out... wth!" I have probably spent way too much money for my own good here. I remember coming here when I was in elementary school with every singe adult relative I had so I could get a new backpack... and boy, I built up quite a collection of Hello Kitty, Poccacho (I can never spell it), and Kerrokerropi. I may not be able to spell all the characters' names properly but it doesn't stop me from loving this place any less. If only they could decrease their prices a wee bit, then I would spend more money here... you know a few dollars less for each pen/pencil/anything, you could make a heck of a lot more revenue because I would spend a heck of a lot more! Yes they have the Sanrio card to collect your points to an amazing free reward item but I always misplace my cards... sad face. read more

I've been going to this Sanrio ever since I was a little kid. My mom would buy my backpacks from here! The store itself is small (smaller than the formal pearl ridge location) The service is decent and they often update their stock with whatever is popular. I like to get my little cousins gifts from here and honestly, I still sometimes buy myself things from here too haha. Very cute place to buy a young girl a gift. They have stationary, bags, light kitchen wares, candies, stuffed animals and more. It's nice to know that I once was gifted things from here and now I give the gifts haha. read more

Hello Kitty and pens galore, need I say more? I come in here regularly while I wait for my son to finish Sylvan tutoring to get my little niece (and myself) cute Hello Kitty stuff! Whether it's the pens and pencils or the cute little bags or bento kits, I have literally bought a little of everything they sell at this location. It's small but it's always clean and the employees are always nice and helpful. My baby niece especially likes the stuffed animals they have towards the back of the store (she's only 1 and has yet to find her love for all things Hello Kitty). I remember being in grade school and collecting erasers and pencil boxes, am I the only one? This was in the late 80's but it's one of the fondest memories I had from K-4th grade is collecting erasers and pencil boxes and bringing them to school to share and trade. Whether you're a lover of all things Hello Kitty or never heard of them before (oy, the thought!), i suggest you check out this Sanrio location. You won't regret it! read more

I think this is the only Sanrio store left on the island. It's very sad since I grew up having hello kitty stationary basically everything for school. So I do hope Sanrio stays with us for a long time. Anyways, I really don't feel comfortable coming here. The main reason is because the OLD lady who works here literally follows you and tries so hard to up sale you. Literally everything you touch or just look at. Ok lady. I understand you want to sell the merchandise but if you're gonna keep getting into peoples business, we are either gonna walk out or get scared to even enter this dang store ever again. And I am one of those people. I don't like coming here because of her. I literally bought a hello kitty blanket for my bf (it was my excuse, so I don't feel so bad) because I felt obligated to buy it. She pushed and kept insisting. I couldn't or didn't even want to say no thank you. So I bought that crap just so she would leave me alone! On the other note. They have lots of cute things. i was missing the pearlridge/ala moana sanrio and then discovered that there was still a sanrio surprises at kahala mall!! i just wish it wasn't so expensive T-T but i know it's always been that way haha. but the staff was really nice and helpful. the store was pretty empty but they seem to be handling the pandemic pretty well. they had tape to guide you through the store and shields at the registers plus hand sanitizer so i didnt feel uncomfortable at all!! :) read more

With the closing of the Pearlridge and Ala Moana locations, I've gotta travel pretty far by car (although I have hopped on a plane to Japan as well) for a Hello Kitty fix. Since it's a drive over to the other side of the island (for me at least) I called in advance to see if the Kahala location carried a specific item - a white Hello Kitty milk bottle ceramic mug with an accompanying stir spoon, which I had seen in an Instagram post. The young lady who took my call was excellent. She knew exactly what I was speaking about and apologized because she didn't currently have it in store. She did share that it was in the process of being shipped to their location and offered to hold one for me when it arrived. She was very polite and took the initiative to assist me instead of just saying sorry, with a click of the phone. Fast forward about 5 days later. I receive a call from the same young lady who shared that the item just arrived in their shipment and she's put one on the side just for me. The stars aligned because it just so happened that I would be in the area later that day, so you could totally imagine just how happy I felt. When I got to the store it was pretty busy. The young lady who took my call was behind the counter assisting another customer while another girl was walking the sales floor. When I inquired about my held item, the young lady behind the counter was happy that I came and commented that she thought I would like the mug and that she held other new items that just came in that she thought I would like. It was unexpected and very much appreciated. She anticipated and exceeded my needs. However, the 4 star rating is for the experience with the other associate who assisted me (the original person who took my call and places my reservation, 5 star based on her service, interaction and my experience). She seemed disconnected and uninterested in assisting me. When I asked her information about the items she was showing me, her automatic answer was, "I don't know." Luckily, the nicer young lady heard me and added some assistance while in between other customers. I purchased my mug, but sadly not the other items - it was a pen and notebook; wished it was a Frixon pen and a larger notebook because I could have totally used it for work. read more

This Sanrio store is located next to GNC and Jeans Warehouse in Kahala Mall. The staff is always so helpful and I love that they have an area with discounted items. All sales are final on the sale items. Be sure to check back often as they have special gifts with purchase, a stamp card if you're going to shop there often and lots of cute stuff. read more

Do you like Hello Kitty? I do! One reason is that you can get a balloon and you can pick whatever balloon you want. You can even get a dog one. My favorite balloon is the Elsa balloon. I like the CANDY there :$ There are twisters that are really long and can be any flavor. My last reason is that there are toys there. There's Hello Kitty, Monkeys, and I can't remember the rest. Some people say that the Hello Kitty Store is horrible, but I think it is COOL. But still some people say that it is HORRIBLE!! But still I like Hello Kitty. Oh, one more thing. They offer a Sanrio loyalty card at this shop, but they will frequently refuse to stamp your card. Today I bought over $100 of merchandise and the sales person was in the process of stamping my card when the manager stopped her. I would literally go to any other Sanrio than this one.
