It was extremely busy when I walked in. They were rushing to get people in, "Next!!" It felt like I was on a factory line. When I got in, the man who served me was not the owner- it was his assistant. He was a little sarcastic and impolite. He had an overbearing, condescending personality. When I asked him what his prediction was for the silver market, he slyly ridiculed me by asking, "Has anything good been done about the economy!?" Now the owner chimed in also with, "Do you think the economy has been improved? No." Listen, I'm not here to talk about politics- save that for other people. If I was a 6'3" 250 pound man YOU CAN BE SURE they wouldn't have talked to me that way. It was disrespectful. I left with a bad feeling. Here's what will happen next: They will say, "We're sorry YOU feel that way. We didn't treat you any differently than we do our other customers." Watch. This used to be the best place in town to sell scrap gold... not any longer, I brought in 21.5 grams of 14kt gold expecting get a reasonable 85% of spot. The value of the gold was 1349.50. I got 1000. When I did the math that comes out to %75 of spot. I dont know about anyone else, but that's pretty unreasonable to me. Either I sold because I had to, but even though I have been there many a time, I will never go back. 75% of spot is not a good price. Greed has taken over in my opinion read more

RUDE owner Geoff. I can't even describe the arrogant ungratefulness of this person. He hung up on me when I had said I couldn't hear him very well, then I called right back, they did not answer, they let it go to voicemail, then when I called the 3rd time, a woman answered and handed me to Geoff again, I said candidly "you hung up on me?!" and he lied, said he could not hear me when truly it was ME that could not hear him. He can spin it any way he likes, but he was snotty and exacerbated by my three questions that I never even asked. He could have said he could call back or can I call back, they were busy with people in the lobby. Oh well. Looks like some others shared their same experience. When I dealt with over the top stressful demands with 4+ sick patients in a hospital setting I never 'told myself' their needs that were my job to fulfill, were a problem. Please do yourself a favor and take your business elsewhere. This man is extremely rude and condescending. I hope he got the ego boost he needed from trying to make a young woman feel humiliated. My mother in law recently came across some antique silverware that belonged to her great aunt. I deal with some vintage pretty regularly but silver and flatware are out of my realm, so I made sure I did my research on the best place to take it before coming here. I don't understand how this place has so many good reviews. I felt immediately misjudged as soon as I walked in the door, as if they've never done business with anybody with tattoos before. I didn't know much about what I brought in, if it was sterling silver or silver plated but it was really old and we thought it could be worth something. As soon as he began looking at it, he said "Your mother in law has cheap flatware". He proceeded to call in "junk" and "garbage" multiple times as he went on looking at it. He even went on to say it belonged in the trash. When he was finished looking I tried to ask him if it was silver plated, just trying to understand what it was, and all he did was say insulting things again. It would have been SO simple to just tell me it wasn't worth anything. I felt extremely uncomfortable and the woman who works there just weirdly stared at me the whole time. 0/10 read more

I have sold to the owner twice now. I highly prefer this store over the other coin stores in town for the following reasons: 1) he pays 95% of current market value when I sell him a coin. Gilio's JIPPED me mutiple times because I did not do enough research, When I had doubts about why the coin was worth less than I thought, he gave me a complete and honest breakdown of how the coins are priced. 2) He was flexible and met me back at the shop after he normally closes, to accomodate my work schedule. 3) The transaction was quick 4) He had a cheerful and welcoming demeanor At this point I will not sell gold to any other store in town. I once sold a 24k gold necklace to Gilio's, and because of their faulty equipment, accused me of trying to sell them counterfeit gold. They then tried a more advanced device to test the necklace, and realized I was not selling counterfeit gold. They insulted me and jumped to conclusions. I will not sell to Gilio's after multiple bad experiences, and will only sell to this shop. read more

I had some old family silver flatware to unload as well as a couple of old gold watches that my grandfather left behind, and a couple other odds & ends. I also didn't have a lot of time, as I was moving in a few days. I had done enough web research ahead of time to understand that in this business someone like me coming off the street was not going to get a high percentage of the retail value of this stuff. I then researched local appraisal shops & wrote down a list of a few that had gotten good reviews. Santa Barbara Precious Metals seemed to get decent reviews and I ended up going here first. I walked out very happy with the experience (and without the stuff I'd brought in, but with an unexpectedly large wad of cash in my pocket). Geoff was totally nice to deal with and he seemed to carefully assess each item. I actually had one very small tie tack (missing the backing plate for years) mixed in with the other stuff that I had always assumed was some worthless metal & I suggested he just throw it away. Before doing that he took his magnifier to it and saw a tiny "10K" on the back and so I even got a few bucks for that!
