Came in for dinner on our way through town. Front desk was a bit disorganized but understandable as it was just after shift change. Sign on the door apologizing they're out of dinner rolls was a harbinger of things to come. I ordered the steak tacos and after the meal arrived we found out they were also out of both salsa AND guacamole (for me tacos are primarily a delicious vehicle for delivering guacamole and salsa). The server was very friendly and brought sour cream and a variety of dressings that helped cut the dryness. The steak itself was flavorful but was not cut properly, resulting in a stringy and hard to bite through dish. Bottom line: would not recommend and expect that without significant changes to management and/or capitalization, this spot will likely not be open next year. read more

The absolute best steakhouse around! Great service, food, and drinks! If you're there with another person order the Wagon Full! You'll be full for two days! Go ahead and get a to-go box cause it's a lot of food! 9oz steak, 2 chicken breasts, and a large half rack of ribs plus 2 sides. The steak can be cut in half and cooked to two different temps, the chicken is nice and moist, and the ribs are "fall off the bone" tender. Definitely try them out! Oh, the prices? When me and my family arrived down here for a buffet for my 22nd Birthday, Customer service was nice. My father asked for table for 6 and the gentleman was nice to show us our table. Once after we grabbed plate or two we sat down and feasted on the buffet. My mother said the mashed potatoes were sower but I myself enjoyed the food. And not to mention 8.99 Per person at lunch?! This one is in fort Payne and it is a great place to eat here, When you walk in there is a lot of Alabama band stuff hanging around , and there should be because of where it is, you can get a can and fill it with peanuts and eat all you want. The place is big so you don't have to wait long when there busy, and there is outside seating. The food is good, they have a great selection of steak and burgers. It's overall a great place to eat. If you like a drink they have a big selection in that dept as well. My friend got the red neck tea and said it was amazing. read more

All of the food I've eaten there is bland. Their cheese sticks have no flavor. Every time we've ordered food there it looks old like it's been setting too long before it's served. I've never had a good steak from there considering the price is way over what it's worth! I will never go back! I've tried it a few times over the years just to give it another shot but it's never gotten better. Shrimp was luke warm, fries had no crunch, and when we asked for fresh French fries she brought back some that were barely warm and were tough, like heated in a microwave. all this in an area where kids were screaming, beating on the plexiglass and running around the tables. There should be a sign up front that says if you can't control your children you will be asked to leave. And we waited 30 minutes for this experience. my husband ordered fajitas and the 3 shells were taco size. it was suppised to have onions and peppers, but only 2 small strips of a pepper in a pile of onions. In the past 5 months though it seems like this place has gone downhill.. this past time took the cake.. we went in and got seated.. she took our drink orders and about 8 minutes went by and she came back and was like "omg I forgot your drinks sorry" it was fine no big deal.. then when our food came the food was not good this time.. the steak salad wasn't chopped up the lettuce pieces were long and the steak wasn't good. Also in the blu cheese dressing there was an old mushy crouton.. we asked the waitress for more napkins, she never came back. When we finally saw her again we asked for more napkins again and she came back with two cocktail napkins that you set a drink on.. also the side of fries was like maybe 6 fries on a small plate.. when we went to leave the waitress came over and before we were even up from the table snatched the bill off the table so she could see how much tip we left... won't be back for a while.. get it together.. read more

This Santa Fe Cattle Co is located near Interstate 59 at exit 218 in Fort Payne, AL. It's in a small shopping center area with many other restaurants in there as well. Our original plan was to stop for fast food, but decided to try this place out instead since it's not a place we find at home. We got there around 1:30 pm, but was more like 2:30 pm for us since we're used to the Eastern Time Zone. The date of this visit was August 3, 2018. The exterior of the restaurant was fine, and did have a southwestern theme to it, which would be expected given the name of the place. Hours are listed on the door, but it is a bit faded, likely due to lots of exposure to sunshine. Inside, the place wasn't too busy, but was steady. However, when we came in, there was no hostess at the counter for seating. We waited about 5-10 minutes and we were just about to walk out when a hostess finally came over (with no apology for the wait either). Plenty of tables were available, so the wait had nothing to do with the place being at capacity. Other servers were out there, but never came over for seating. This is the main reason why I dropped my review from four stars to three stars. The overall look and feel inside was southwestern themed, as expected. One thing you'll notice right away going to the tables are the peanut shells all over the floor. After finally getting seated, our server came by right away stating that she would be right back after taking care of another table. Within a minute or two, our server Mona was at the table. We ordered our drinks and then looked over the menu. She also brought out some dinner rolls with butter. Since we changed time zones, we got to take advantage of the lunch menu. After our drinks were brought out, we asked for a few minutes to decide on what we wanted to order. In a little bit, she did come back and we were ready to order. I ended up going with the Grilled Shrimp lunch entree with fries. My mom went with the Lunch Quesadilla with beef. After about 8-10 minutes, the entrees were brought to the table. The food came out as ordered and was nice and hot. The shrimp were really good, along with the fries. My mom also liked the beef quesadilla. In the end, the food was very good. Our server was really good about drink refills as well. Except for the wait to be seated, the overall experience here was very good. The food was good, service at the table was good, and the overall experience in the end was good. If your travels take you this way, this place is worth checking out. I think it helped that we were there during lunch. I'm sure it would be busier at dinner time. read more

On a cross country trip, after stopping in Fort Payne for the night, the hotel front desk clerk recommended Santa Fe Cattle Co --she was spot on. Super recommendation. It appeared to be where the "locals" go to eat, drink, have fun and hang out as it was a happening place, even on a weeknight. I got a high quality ribeye steak, cooked perfectly, as requested and a large baked potato and fresh garden salad. ...and the price was very reasonable, if not a super bargain. Nothing real fancy--just good comfort food, perfect after a long day of driving. My server was friendly, helpful and efficient as she scurried from table to table. Large screen televisions mean you can keep up with your favorite sports team. Full service bar. Plenty of parking. Would go back next time I end up in this neck of the Alabama woods. read more

She was busy talking to her friends to check on her customers. The girls in front acted like so what, if you don't like it go some where else. You have to wait in the waiting area (which is really cramped and not enough room) or you have to wait right outside, despite it being freezing and windy as it's January. First off, great service wish the lady who waited on our table the best. The issues my family and I encountered surrounded food and management. Three steaks were ordered to the table 1 ny strip, two 9oz bubbas. They mixed up the temperature of one of the bubbas and the nylon strip steaks but we didnt mind it (medium and medium rare). The bigger problem was a rare ground beef burger. "Management" was called over and nonchalantly addressed the situation and said all he noticed was "that it was falling apart." Nothing about the raw ground beef. When we pointed it out, he asked how we wanted to handle it. I would expect a little urgency and willingness to take care of the customer but it didnt seem that way. Cherry on top, ordered a last minute salad, messed that up too, missing salad topping on the big a Caesar salad. Idk place has just fallen from grace under this new management. We ate at this Santé Fe on the evening of June 22, 2013. Upon arriving the place was pretty dead for it to be that time of the day. We were instantly seated close to the door and soon after our orders were placed. We ended up ordering the queso/salsa/guacamole dip trio as an appetizer and for the main course I ordered the 12 oz Lynchburg steak with seasoned fries and the Santé Fe rice. The guacamole was blended into an almost watery paste; the queso tasted like cheese whiz with meat added and the salsa was watery. As for the steak it was odd, I ordered it medium-well and due to its thickness and thinness on one side, the steak was medium-medium rare on the thick side, and well done on the thin side, again it was an odd steak, but I'm not going to complain too much. It did lack overall flavor though as compared to other "Lynchburg" steaks that I've had elsewhere. The fries were decent and the rice tasted like some kind of box styled rice like you would buy at wal-mart. I wasn't too pleased with the rice and didn't eat it since it wasn't very good. The waitress was very nice and checked on us quiet often, our drinks were refilled etc etc.. We did try to order the dirt pie dessert after we had finished eating, but they were out of them at the time. I remember when Santé Fe from my hometown served good food, and then began serving bad.. only to close down eventually, I hope this restaurant isn't on the same path. Good-luck guys! read more

I've got a weakness for Roadhouse restaurants with peanut shells all over the floors and huge cocktails in mason jars. There's just something so unashamedly, touristy, American about them. This one is no exception, or if anything, it's one of the better ones I've visited. My lovely waitress (Elisha?) was so bubbly, friendly, and attentive! She made a great recommendation for some kind of huge cocktail that tasted like an orange creamsicle. Awesome! For lunch I got a sweet potato, chicken fried steak, and a side salad. The salad was unremarkable, but the chicken fried steak and sweet potato were wonderful! My only complaint was that they were strangely small. I've never seen such a small CFS or sweet potato in my life... how weird... I expected this place to serve gigantic portions. Still, I don't usually eat large meals, and I left completely stuffed after all that, the cocktail, and the basket of bread with cinnamon butter, so no real complaints. Good for lunch, and it was a memorable experience. My first time ever in Alabama, and this is the only place I visited. Glad I did! read more

Roadhouse steakhouse complete with a bucket of peanuts delivered to your table. The kids will enjoy making adding to the mess of peanut shells littering the floor. I suggest asking for a booth. They are elevated and you won't have your feet in shells the entire time. Country music plays at a comfortable level inside. Table conversations are enjoyable. My server was Sarah. She wasn't overly friendly but she wasn't "short" or irritated as many servers tend to be at the end if the night. I ordered grilled salmon with a salad, baked sweet potato and unsweet tea (which I didn't like and had to have my sever cut it with half sweet). Hot yeast rolls are promptly delivered to the table with a small dish of cinnamon butter. They are really good. My salad was watery. This happens when lettuce is cleaned but not dried before chopping and preparing the salad. As a result all elements on the salad were wet. Disappointing. My main course arrived and was piping hot as it should be. Baked potato was obviously baked all day but it was soft and with the cinnamon on top along with the leftover cinnamon whipped butter from the rolls it was delicious. The salmon was surprisingly good. Moist, savory, and flaky. It's a crap shoot with fish at a steakhouse, says my husband. I'm not a betting kind of girl but I will roll the dice when it comes to fish. Dessert menu was delivered with meal ticket. Odd but since I don't eat dessert, I really didn't mind. However, I expect dirty plates to be removed as I finish or at a minimum at the end of the meal when dropping off my payment receipt. Grabbed a tea to go with a full belly.
