I…read morewas eating lunch at Romano's and I told my waiter how charming it was to hear the church bells ringing while enjoying a delicious Italian feast. As soon as I was done doing my diet damage, I headed up the hill to discover a small but exquisite Catholic Church devoted to St. Elizabeth of Hungary. Now that's a Saint I hadn't heard of before but the lovely Chapel in her honor is quite the honor. The steeple is bathed in white and the Church is perched magnificently at the top of the hill. Unfortunately, the daily mass was past so St. Elizabeth's was closed for the day but I did walk up to admire the front porch and stained glass work. Out of the corner of my eye, I spied what I always look for at or around any good Catholic Church: a devotional to Mother Mary and St. Elizabeth's did not disappoint. Right around the corner from the front, there was a small burbling noise and above this mini-fountain, a beautiful statue of the Virgin Mother rested in reverence. For this alone, St. Elizabeth's receives 5 YELP STARS. Next time I visit Julian, I will come for Mass at glorious St. Elizabeth's Church.
