Since we were already heading that way, we took a slight detour to see if there might be an elusive parking spot on Calle 51. It wasn't looking too promising, but we lucked out and found a spot on the next block. When we entered the restaurant, we got the last available table. For those who don't know, the Centro location is small, with five small tables and a few seats at the counter. We ordered coffee. The menu is the same as the other location, so I went with my favorite: the omelette en costra, an omelette with cheese baked on the outside to make a nice crust, served with bacon, half an avocado, and their delicious sourdough toast. My wife chose the grilled cheese, which she said was divine. The coffee was also delicious. Service was very good overall, although our waiter never brought my wife water after she asked for a glass. It wasn't an inexpensive breakfast, but I think the prices were reasonable considering the quality. Our two dishes and two coffee drinks came to $550 MXN before tip. My wife said the bathrooms were nice and clean.

From Chicago, first time at SOCO today. Here are some thoughts:…read more -We came in on a Sunday mid morning for brunch. There was a steady stream of internationals for the hour we were there, must be located near a larger hotel. -We ordered a chocolate croissant for an appetizer. It was good. -I ordered the chilaquiles with green salsa and chicken. I really enjoyed the chicken, but overall not great. -My wife ordered eggs and toast, not great. And they charged us extra for butter and jelly. -She had an Americano, I ordered a latte. Both were good. They forgot to bring hers out. With all the great cafes in Merida, I cannot recommend SOCO : (

4: Drink/Tea 5: Ambiance…read more5: Customer Service 5: Cleanliness Being a current native of San Francisco we are spoiled with the whole milk movement. We got soy, almond, hazelnut, oat, rice, coconut, quinoa... Etc. Well in short, they don't have that here. Maybe someday? One can only dream. Other than the lack of alternative milk options, I have to say, I adore this place. Sweet staff. Strong coffee. Along with plenty of places to pop a squat and read a book or whatever you plan to do. I love the decor, which is minimal, but tasteful and clean cut. Reminds me of a sign I would see in the subway of a really clean city. Wherever that would be?! Does that exist? One day, I had a double espresso and was wired the entire day. It was apparently, extra strong. The next day, I sampled a latte con lastostada (cow's milk with out the lactose) and it was great. I was impressed with the barista's skills. I'm a fan of this place. Hopefully the next time I'm around, they will have at least one alternative to milk... Not only for me, but everyone else as well! Cheers!

I really thought that our visit was going to be amazing unfortunately that was not the case. This…read morecoffee shop has their coffee available for purchase in WalMart and is a well know brand but the visit just didn't meet the expectations. First they don't offer coconut milk and only have soy milk. The coffee offerings are quite strange as their are frappes and mixed drinks but limited lattes and Americanos as well as expresso. I added up with an iced expresso americano drink. I was expecting the presentation to match the location but I what received was an oversized plastic cup with a 1/5th of expresso and a gigantic straw. My wife's coffee was lacking as well. Again the interior and location is amazing. You couldn't ask for a better mix of classical and modern themes in one location but perhaps I simply don't know how to order coffee which I doubt or they're missing the mark on presentation and execution.
