Been going to Santucci's for over 20 years. The service and the food has always be great! Since the store was sold, none of the sandwiches taste AT ALL the same, not as much meat is used and the vegetables don't seem fresh. All new employees have been hired because the new owners didn't want to pay the old employees at the same hourly rate. The owner has made some improvements inside which are ok, but doesn't seem to be using the same food vendors and the taste and quality is not anywhere as good! HOLY F*CKING SHIT! Ill admit, at first I thought people were hyping it up because they didn't know any better. The girl taking my order was overly enthusiastic...but now I know why. I was wrong. So, so, so wrong. I ordered the Italian cold cut and proceeded to inhale the entire sub within 15 minutes. The bread:meat:topping ratio is utterly perfect & the oil/vinegar is just right. I asked for everything and (much to my delight) they didn't use the elaborate amount of mayo and oil that other places do. It's only $7.95 for a 10inch (8inch if you're using the whole grain bread). Additional tip: Ask to have that deliciously fluffy bread toasted. You won't be disappointed. It's not often that I get a craving for subs...but whenever it happens I'm coming here. Let's start with the positives - I usually get the BLT, it's always good. I mean, bacon, lettuce, and tomato, you can't go wrong. I've had their premade pastas and those are good as well. Fries are a must! The added seasoning does it for me every time. Also, the mozzarella sticks are the absolute best! Now for the negatives - I wish they were staffed a bit better, wait times can be long. Also, I saw a mouse crawling up the food pantry at the front when I was waiting to order food the last time I was there and I walked out because that's an absolute no from me. Instead of layering veggies dutifully on top of each other, the sandwich took a chopped approach in which every bite featured a piquant blend of vegetal matter and more fun, pickled ingredients. My go to sandwich shop in Silver Spring! This place has delicious sandwiches on fresh bread. I've been here many times and value their consistency. My favorite sandwiches are the meatball sub, the eggplant parm and the pastrami which are all served hot. They have the typical deli sandwiches too like tuna or turkey. There is limited seating if you're lucky enough to grab a spot by the window or at one of the few tables. The parking lot can sometimes be crowded, though I've never not gotten a spot. Bottom Line: If you're hungry for a great deli sub, this is the place to come. If you don't want to wait 10-15 minutes during busier times, you can always call ahead! read more

But as I waited for over 30 minutes for two Italian subs (meats are pre-packaged, so this isn't a time consuming sandwich) I watched two employees clean buckets...well, one washed, one watched. There was only one person making sandwiches. People had been waiting for over 45 minutes for their orders (before me.) One man lost hope of ever receiving his sub and asked for a refund so he could leave. They refused. My gentle suggestion that they should inform the customers that they were running slow before the customer ordered was met with a lack of comprehension. After a very stress inducing wait, I finally got my subs and trucked on home only to find that they left the plastic wrap on the deli meat when they made the sub. Final nail in the coffin for this place. If you've been there any time recently then make sure you take a look under the potato chip racks before ordering. There are like 5 mouse traps. They've obviously had an issue with rodents and it's out in the open for anyone to see that might be sitting at one of the tables chomping down on a sandwich. Secondly, I ordered a chicken salad sandwich and got sick. It was the only thing I ate that day so it was 100% from this place. Either it wasn't fresh or someone who made it didn't wash their hands. No matter...I'm done with this place for good. It's sad...I bought my first home in Woodmoor in 2001 and had been coming here for 20+ years. I wish Mr. Santucci had taken a little more care in who he had sold his legacy neighborhood place to instead of just taking a payday. This was a place I used to make an excuse to be in SS just so I could grab a sub and a salad. I have also referred many to the deli. Unfortunately, I made one of those special trips in early January and had the worst experience ever (from anywhere). The first thing that happened was their forgetting my dressing for the salads (I was using the salad for a dinner party that night). I had to drive 45 minutes back just to get the dressing (total trips - 3 hours of my day). My husband ordered a steak and cheese just as the menu describes, but it had no cheese, no cherry pepper relish and a very skimpy amount of meat. He also bit down on something that almost broke a tooth. My Turkey sub was adequate with the meat being skimpy and the bread did not seem as fresh as usual, but otherwise ok. Upon my return to pick up the salad dressing, I asked to speak to the manager and was told no manager was there. I then spoke to a woman who took notes in regards to the issues with the subs and dressing. She said she would let the manager know and get back to me (but never did). I later sent an email to the owner in regards to the same (also never hearing back). It astonished me how bad this lunch was and is certainly a place that I will avoid in the future. Such a shame as it had previously been the best deli I had been to. Also note that if you don't pay cash they charge a hefty percentage of the bill and add it on to the total (I believe it was 4%). read more

About a year ago I was waiting for a sandwich and an older, maskless man (owner?) was loudly berating one of the employees in front of customers. This is an Italian style deli located in a strip mall at the intersection of University Blvd & Rt. 29 (aka Colesville Road). This area is alternately called Woodmore & Four Corners. They have the usual deli sandwiches. There is a large selection of beverages. There is a freezer with many flavors of gelato. They serve N.Y. style pizza slices. Prices are reasonable. Serving sizes are adequately large. I believe the value is good. The place can get very busy, but the hard-working staff has never in my experience gotten overwhelmed by the volume. There is limited seating both indoors and outdoors. I have years of experience with this deli. In my experience the bbq is excellent. The classic submarine/grinder/hoagie is also excellent. The bread used is very good. Meatball subs are very good too. IMO the pizza is superior to many of the dedicated pizza places (I'm thinking of Pizza Hut/Dominos/Pappa John) & even some respected restaurants (Leno). It is N.Y. style however....if you want deep-dish Chicago-style, go somewhere else. I recommend telephoning ahead during busy times. I grew up eating from Santucci's Deli, even as a junior high student at St. B's. On Friday's, we were lucky enough to have the tastiest, most fresh sub sandwiches delivered to our classrooms! We were super spoiled, but it was such a treat. Many, many years later, they are still going strong, and it is still my favorite restaurant in the DMV. This adorable deli is family-owned, and it is truly a family establishment. Every time I walk in there, I always recognize someone, no matter how many months or years have gone by, and they recognize you, too! Santucci's subs are extremely popular, but my all-time favorite is the Caesar or Chef Salad, and I always add extra tomatoes. Salads always come with several slices of fresh baked French bread, which could be a meal in itself. They also have a fresh deli with a wide variety of Italian dishes, as well as freshly made pastas, lasagnas, etc. that are kept refrigerated and are the perfect meals-to-go if you are in a hurry. In addition to the fresh foods, they have a large section of Italian items, such as pastas, tomato sauces, spices, etc. You seriously cannot go wrong with Santucci's.
