Sapporo is an old favorite and this visit just reinforced that. We went for my birthday dinner! A group of 6 of us, please note parties of 5+ are now required to be on one ticket. We walked in and were seated after some tables were arranged for us. My wife and I started with some green iced teas, gyoza (pan fried) for appetizers, and then got the tiger eye roll and spicy rainbow roll. The gyoza had a perfect crunch paired with the tenderness of the chicken. The spicy rainbow roll is so tasty with the right amount of kick and has the variety in fish to keep it interesting. The mango and masago keeps the heat down. The tiger eye roll was like russian roulette with how spicy of a bite you get with the jalapeño, but I enjoyed it! A-okay! Tried this place recently with a coworker for lunch. I was excited to see they have 100/100 health score and a wide variety of items on the menu. The interior of this restaurant is really nice and the service was very good. Our server answered my questions about the menu and checked in with us throughout our meal. We both ordered sushi rolls which came with complimentary salad and miso soup. The soup and salad were great! Very flavorful and perfect temp for both. The sushi rolls were fine. They are quite large so if you like big portions, that's a plus, however I was having trouble eating the sushi pieces in one bite and would have preferred thinner slices or a more tightly packed roll with less rice. read more

The decor is quite amazing, elaborate, intricate and simply jaw dropping in my opinion. Their attention to detail on the design of this place and decor is astonishing. The lady at the front always greets you and the servers are fantastic! They were quick, informative and precise. Our food came out so fast even though they were packed! Definitely a lunch spot if you are crunched for time! They provide you with complimentary salad with their house made ginger dressing and miso soup. The ginger dressing can be purchased if you really like it like we did!! The miso soup was great too and flavorful. We ordered the following: - Karai Ramen: yowza!! This soup is perfect on a cold, rainy day. Heck this soup is perfect for even the Texas summer heat! The broth is so flavorful, with just the right amount of spice that makes your throat burn but in a good spicy kind of way! You want to keep going back for more! It has ground pork, a hard boiled egg, ramen and bean sprouts. The ramen noodles were perfectly cooked, not mushy but just the right texture. If your sick or if you just want a good spicy ramen soup, get this. You can't beat the price for the amount you get!! $10 and you can share between two people or keep it to yourself and take it home for left overs! With these high food prices, this definitely works on someone's budget! - Las Vegas Roll (deep fried): perfectly tempura'd, perfectly rolled, just the right amount of ingredients! You can get any sushi roll fried in tempura mix for $1.00! Again the price for the amount you get is right in point. - San Antonio Roll: of course you could get some at H-E-B, but these masters don't disappoint! They were rolled to perfection and the roll was quite hefty in terms of size! I get this every time I come here! Beautifully executed and plated with the right amount of sauces! - Texan roll (deep fried) : this was another hit! The wasabi tobiko cavier was very interesting but fun to eat! Classic! A go too! Sapporo has a special place in my heart and try to gatekeep at time because it's just truly AMAZING I hope it stays that way! Been going here since college and it slaps every time. I have been meaning to stop by Sapporo for a while now and I am glad that I did! While having a hard time deciding what me and my plus one wanted to order, we realized we could get the Dinner Sushi Solo that covered all our bases at a great price! The fish for the sashimi and nigiri were super fresh and the seaweed salad portion was generous, considering the cost of it as just an appetizer at many places. While we split the dinner, our server still brought each of us complementary miso soup and salad - all of which tasted great! There aren't dishes or sushi that will totally blow you away, but that is not what this place is for. Service was a touch slow, and I couldn't attribute it to any clear crowd or reason, but other than that a very solid experience! Visited Sapporo in San Antonio based on a high recommendation. Upon entering, encountered a notices insisting that groups of 5 or more must pay by one check and they reserve the right to refuse service to anyone.  Now in the overall scheme of life these are not big deals, but at the same time, both were a bit unwelcoming as the first things I notice entering your business.  As for the rationale on the one check rule, shared by a staff member, it's more convenient for the server during busy times.  PAUSE Isn't the point of owning an establishment to stay busy? In my recollection, there didn't appear to be many booths or tables accommodating five or more people. Even if there were, it shouldn't prevent servers from efficiently managing multiple tickets. Speaking from my past experience in the hospitality industry, handling separate tickets for a table of more than 5 was never an issue, no matter how busy it got. Entering the place, I was impressed with the décor ... would be a cool little date spot I thought, but then remembered it might not be a good idea to go as more than one couple, because you might be late for your movie having to figure out your separate checks and then having to venmo or zelle the one person who paid for everything in order to get their money back. But first you must figure out who is going to pay the whole bill.   Apologies for the digression. The menu offers a diverse selection, but surprisingly, there's no fried rice - just white steamed rice. Seemed to not offer in an Asian Fusion restaurant.  Especially considering fried rice's simplicity and assumed popularity, but not my kitchen.  Our group ordered various items, receiving mixed reviews. Standouts were the Seafood Ramen and Bibimbap bowl, both earning high praise, while other dishes fell in the range of 2 to 3 out of 5. I must commend Jackson for being a fantastic server--a genuinely kind soul. I'm grateful that our group only had one check, sparing Jackson from the hassle of sorting out individual orders and matching credit cards. Oh wait guys, I have to go ... the Zelle I just sent to the person who paid our bill didn't go through.  I need to check my bank and see what may have happened. I hope I didn't send it to the wrong person. Amazing place! This is a budget friendly date night restaurant where you will get some wonderful dishes. The crunchy roll was $11.25 and the Spicy Rainbow Roll was $16.00 (so worth the price!!!). Every sushi meal (I'm not sure about the bento boxes and ramen) comes with a side salad and miso soup so that's always a plus. The only thing I will mention is that the rolls can be inconsistent with the sizing because sometimes they are way too big and then sometimes they're perfect portion sizing. One of the other reviewers here kind of nails it: "If you are a sushi snob or seek quality over quantity, this is not the place." Well, I'm not a sushi snob, but there is a grain of truth here. This is a perfectly acceptable place to grab lunch, the place is clean and the staff friendly enough. However, the rolls, the tempura, and even the soup's on the bland-but-filling side. Since when did tempura shrimp come rolled in a corn-dog batter? Weird. The reason for the 'fills you up' part of the restaurant is simply that they pad all the rolls out with a HUGE amount of rice. It's not bad per se but it kills the balance of flavors you're shooting for in sushi. Still, know what you're getting into when you come here and you'll be fine. This place scores a 3 out of 5 on the 'CTJ Scale', as noted below. 5 out of 5 stars: Come-to-Jesus good. Would be OK passing away after finishing a plate here. 4 out of 5 stars: Come-to-Mary good. Needed a quick and inexpensive sushi dinner and Sapporo came across my search. I was floored by these prices! I'm from the Houston area and there's more adorable options than San Antonio has. But Sapporo matched the prices that I'm more used to. I got the Geta 5 combo which was only $11 for 17 pieces. Everything very tasty! The guy at the counter was very nice and he made good conversation while I waited for my to go order which was made timely for a Friday night. I was really excited to try this place, I saw it had 4.4 on Google reviews and thought WHY NOT. We were quickly greeted and sat at a nearby table. The restaurant has some really cool interior designs and details. We were served water and a couple of miso soups. After staring at the sushi menu, we decided to go with our server's recommendation for spicy rolls. Pictured is only two and they were unfortunately our least favorite out of the four. The sushi rolls are huge - lots of rice and the insides (jalapeños/cucumbers) aren't chopped very small so be prepared for some huge servings and it falling apart before you can eat it. The Dynamic roll was really underwhelming... the tuna was old and hard and it pretty much looked like chorizo or old stuffing. I took a bite to be optimistic and I was really sad to be disappointed. While our server was nice and quick with bringing water refills, she kinda disappeared after serving our rolls so I didn't really have a chance to ask for another roll to eat. We boxed up our leftovers. We did have 1 roll that was amazing, I can't remember the name but it was crab in the middle, with spicy crab on top with crunchy crumbs and spicy mayo. We definitely want to give it another go since sushi rolls are so fickle to find regardless but I think I'll stick to the Yelp reviews and go for a bento. read more

So...I am NOT a connoisseur of Sushi. I have been slowly dabbling, but it hasn't been high in the list of things I crave. But we ordered out from Sapporo last night and I can't wait to do it again. Now, I understand that enjoying the hell out of four different California-style rolls is really only scratching the surface of all things sushi. It's not that adventurous, truly, but it IS a very enthusiastic step in that direction. Let's be real, you've got to be pretty jazzed to go slipping down a road that leads to things like raw fish and eel sauce, but this is where I find myself. Thanks to Sapporo. We picked up rolls of the "Rock and", "UTSA", "Angel", and "Crunchy" varieties. Like I said, all California style rolls, with fillings ranging from tempura shrimp, to crab and salmon. The Angel Roll and UTSA Roll were favorites, but we devoured everything. It was fresh, balanced, and portions were large. The four rolls were enough to have the three of us stuffed with two pieces left over (which my husband DEVOURED for BREAKFAST this morning). Staff at the restaurant are super friendly and ordering was easy. We will be going back soon and not only will we eat there, but I think we'll have to see about branching out into some more adventurous sushi! read more

The food was fine. My sushi roll was good but messy to eat. Very interesting sushi rolls on the menu with lots of ingredients. I do want to note that the crazy rolls are huge. The service was pretty bad at least when I went. We ordered an appetizer that we never got and they tried to charge us for it. We also had to give ourselves the bill because we sat for 15 min after we were done eating and our server never came back. Honestly I think they forgot we were even there. It was also fairly crowded and we had to wait for 15-20 min to even get seated. I will probably give this place another chance later but my first impressions aren't very good. read more

There's this little side salad that comes with a yummy dressing. It's just lettuce but that dressing! Pickled ginger is upon request. Made a special roll for me and it was good. Good amount of portions of ingredients in each bite. Tea pots were kind of old and used and didn't close properly causing lid to open and my mom spilled hot tea. Napkins were in extreme shortage. Server was just ok. The decor was plentiful and fun. I really liked the dividers I know it's for COVID-19 but I think they should keep them, give a sense of privacy. A fine place for sushi. Clean, quick staff, went during a busy hour and it didn't take forever to get food so that was great. Only con is that I felt like it wasn't the most flavorful sushi, but for the price I would go back for a quick bite! Wow. This place was ECCENTRICALLY decorated and I loved it! The moment I walked in, I was beyond shocked at how it was decorated, all the neon and art and everything was just so mesmerizing. Before I came in, I asked if we needed a reservation and they were on a first come, first serve basis. They also kind asked if we can just wear a mask up until we get to our table, which was covered with roll away plexiglass covers. They were practicing safe measures such as social distancing and wearing face masks. Our waiter was fabulous, I can't remember his name but he just kept checking up and was beyond helpful. I came with a group of four people. We got three rolls, California, UTSA, and the Las Vegas roll. They were good large portions, we had one roll leftover. Everyone got a salad and miso soup as soon as we came in, the miso soup was delicious. I also ordered a Tempura Shrimp Udon and it was fantastic! One of the best bowls of udon that I've had. The prices were also good. They're way underpriced, I'm visiting from out of state and I was pretty shocked at the total. There's much better sushi & other restaurants in general with clean dining, kind waitstaff, and good food. Hair in our kimchi ... cmon y'all. put on a hairnet ! Train your staff! DO BETTER. The waitress was so kind until we saw the hair in the kimchi - kind of apologetic but also kind of brushed it off. Then snatched our menus out of our hands. Then we decided to "give it another chance" and still eat there , got our soup and pathetic looking salad .. said thank you directly to the waitress- whom looked straight at my fiancé, TWICE, and ignored him both times he said thank you. The ramen portion size is very large, but was not very flavorful. I ordered the miso ramen and the combination of the broth was a bit off to me since it seemed like they used miso soup (the really bland one) instead of using a thicker, miso-based tare. The chashuu was more of an overboiled pork slice and it was very meaty and rigid. I tried the spicy edamame and it was very delicious! Service was good, friendly staff and checked up on us a fair amount. The lighting was good with a good atmosphere.
