Since moving to their new location on Cattleman in Sarasota, l have loved coming here to dance and take lessons. Best competition-grade dance floors in Sarasota, gigantic ballroom space for foxtrot and waltz, amazing ballroom and Latin teachers, very friendly and welcoming. read more

Sunday dances with DJ Bob are the best! There is a good ratio of men versus women and I particularly like that they have a different lesson the entire month that progresses to additional moves each week. Jane W. read more

I am giving this a bad rating due to the incredible rudeness of the owner John. H insulted me and didn't believe that I've had salsa lessons when I've had a number of lessons. The place is also old and dirty looking. I'm willing to give it another try but will avoid John. read more

Sara Dance Center, founded by John Mueller, opened 20 years ago and continues to be fun. It is a friendly place that people feel comfortable at. Wooden, floating dance floors, 3 ballrooms, and excellent, professional dance teachers for any type of dance.

Upon spending any time at the facility, it will be evident that Stage Door Studios is a well-oiled machine. The viewing area is perfect for parents & families wanting to spectate. It is ample space with comfortable seating and screens for viewing dancers working hard and having fun in each studio. There is also a thoughtful children's area with child-friendly furniture and a tv showing children's programs. Every aspect of our experience thus far seems to have been carefully curated to cater to the comfort and enhance the enjoyment of the entire family. We LOVE Stage Door!

My children danced at Stage Door for 6 years (first recreationally and then competitively) and…read moreloved it for a long time. But 3 years into dancing for one of their competitive teams, my children were kicked out of the studio with just a month left to go in the season. They were unable to perform at recital, or at their final competition, and 3 months later the studio has still not refunded the money I paid for services unrendered (summer classes, a convention, unused recital costumes etc) and they will not respond to my emails. The reason for dismissing my 1st and 4th graders? I took them to a private lesson at another studio for additional training and the owner didn't like that. Dancers as young as 5-6 years old are made to sign a contract if they want to dance at competitions with the team. Initially I didn't think much of this but by the third year (and as my second daughter was entering the youngest competition team) I started to have concerns about the stifling nature of it. Essentially, I walked into Stage Door with a 4 year old child in 2016, and before I knew it I was locked into some kind of situation where they would be penalized for even looking at other studios . (By the way, I didn't sign the contract last year but they held me to it anyway.) We stayed a couple years longer than we should have because the kids made friends and didn't want to leave them. If it weren't for that we would have left sooner. As things often do, it all worked out for the best. My girls and some of their previous teammates have found a new studio which they absolutely love and I'm confident that this new studio has their best interests at heart. I'm so excited for their future in dance and it's a relief to know they're training with adults who care about them. Stage Door is a large studio that shows well. It's big, offers a lot of class times for young kids and when you aren't yet enmeshed in the dance world you don't see the red flags. I certainly didn't. My advice, if you're looking for a dance studio, is to sit down with the studio owner and really find out what they're all about. Ask questions. Talk to parents of older kids. Talk to the studio owner at length. I probably talked to the studio owner at Stage Door for less than 20 minutes combined in 6 years. At our new studio, I've talked to the studio owner for hours on end and we've only been there a few months. It's night and day. Just do your homework.

We don't drink so purchased the tickets without the alcohol included but then were welcome to bring on our own drinks and snacks for the ride. The playlist of music out on the sunset tour was top notch and apparently dolphins have a good affection for Elton John's "Tiny Dancer" as when that song came on the dolphins came out in force. I have been associated with 'Sara Dance' for the last 20 years, as a Dance Student, & Competitor, also having worked there as a Receptionist, Caterer, & Artist, ( decorating the Ballrooms with Murals, & canvases) Not having the 'Wherewithal 'at times to take lessons, or to compete, The Owner of 'Sara Dance' John Mueller, made it possible, for me to take part!, He has a heart as big as the sky!! Helping many, the same way, when He could see that we had a great love of Dance! Many young people came under His wing, from other countries, He taught them to be successful Professional Dancers! I love & admire John Mueller, & am honored to be His Friend! ' 'Sara Dance ' has a warm, Welcoming air about the place, no fear of walking in, & being 'Attacked straightaway to buy dance lessons, & there are NO CONTRACTS!! The cost of Dance lessons are truly reasonable, as are the Group classes, you will not need a partner, of course, you can bring one ,too!! There is something going on every day of the week, Wonderful classes of every kind of dance, then the party after, to try new found Dance steps!! Each party has great refreshments served! When they say, "trust us, you can dance"...they aren't kidding. The love of dancing is everywhere and in everybody that goes there to learn and in all the teachers. My experience with John and Michelle has been wonderful! They are encouraging and fun! I've learned to salsa in group lessons and now taking private waltz with Charles! ...a luxury, but well worth it for me. A huge plus to Sara Dance is that they have a full schedule of group lessons of every kind all week long. If you want to dance any night of the week, you will find a class and for only $10 or $12!!!!! For a while I was going many nights a week! It's affordable and a great way to keep food from sticking! If you are looking for a dance studio, whether to take group classes or private lessons or just do some social dancing, you couldn't find a friendlier more welcoming place than Sara Dance. From the owner John, who is a true gentleman, to the individual instructors this is the perfect place in Sarasota for dance. To find an environment like this, where everyone is so helpful and friendly, and the instructors are so knowledgeable is quite rare.
