This is a delightful and inspiring shop at the Custard factory. I spoke with Portia who is very friendly and knows a lot about everything that is on display. I was surprised at just how different all the pieces are, and great that they are all designed and made by local artists. They sell glass fused plaques, fine jewellery, scarves, vases and ornaments that make the perfect gift. Sara, who is both a designer and jeweller also crafts bespoke wedding rings, and if your lucky to catch her when she's in, you can watch her actually making the jewellery. This is the kind of store where you could spend all day. Although they don't sell gift vouchers, anybody would appreciate a gift from here. Follow them on Facebook or Twitter, as there window exhibition changes and updates every 3 months. The opening hours are 11.30am-4.30pm, but they are closed Tuesdays and Sundays. Saturday they are open from 11am-5pm.

Absolutely Con Artists - Avoid People!…read more My wife and I went to value our gold from here, we purchased the gold from across the road a couple of years ago, however the person that does the valuing was not in, so decided to come to City Jewellers...big mistake! We had 82g gold, they said the value isn't much as the gold itself is 22 carat and made in Pakistan and there's a lot is stones/diamond/crystal on there which make the the weight up, 1st guy with a gold tooth said he would give £1500 cash price or £2060 if we want to exchange with another gold item from there shop. We said we are looking at around £2000 as that's what we calculated by looking at daily value of gold. He said no chance the gold isn't good and too much stones in ratio compared to gold. Said he will ask his uncle (beardless guy with a stomach and hair combed back with a flick forward) his uncle said if you want us to remove the stones we will weigh it then can give accurate but said won't get more than £1500, said his nephew was being generous. They made us believe the gold was inferior and no one would give more than they are willing to. They removed the stones and said it is only worth £1400, we said we'll go across the road on Saturday when the guy is back and then come here if we're not happy with theirs. They started saying oh the guy across the road is busy shopping for daughters wedding and he won't be back for a while (lies) so they will give best price now. When we're going to go across anyway he said ok and then smiled at his nephew to say just give £1500, his smile gave it away! He was lying and you could tell. Finally we said we'll take the gold and come back on Saturday, you could see the disappointment on his face and anger too. He said he could exchange for gold for £2100 worth bangles, we said that's fine we'll come back. We asked for the stones back and he said he can't give them as he's mixed them with others! He did that when he went to the back as he took a while to come back with a box to show they're all mixed. Again he was frustrated and was smirking as he knew he was making things up, especially whispering to his nephew and giving looks of deceit as we left. We left that place and went to MIJ Jewellers who immediately took the gold and gave us a value of £2175 cash price!! No talking down on the gold, no taking badly about what we have and how difficult it'll be to give a good price, said there's the value on our board for all to see, and I'll multiply that by how much weight of gold you and have here's your cash price! Compared to the £1400 and then £1500 City Jewellers quoted you can see City Jewellers are con artists who rob money of people!! We went back in and they claimed they never said £1400 or £1500 they said £2100 to which we said they said that for exchange and the £1400 and £1500 was maximum for cash price, they then said oh we said max £1605, and we said well there you go then that's not £2100 is it, and then he knew he was caught out, all the while during this exchange his face was angry as it was before and he was shouting at my wife saying she's lying and refuting everything we said. Guys!! Please stay away from this place!! Go to MIJ Jewellers two doors away towards Chaii Wallah's they'll seriously look after you! Guys a joke here at City Jewellers

won't give me an address to return my item what fell to pieces for a refund and has been on holiday…read morefor 8 weeks and on going but he is still trading on eBay my advice is keep away

I first visited Nightingale Jewellery when I was looking to buy a Zippo lighter for a friends…read morebirthday, this was about 10 years ago and I've used them for my jewellery repairs and for purchases ever since. It's a traditional jewellers shop, rather than the jeweller/pawn brokers which seems to be the norm now. They will buy in unwanted gold and jewellery but they do not offer any kind of cash loan service, I've sold to them once or twice and got a fair price for the scrap gold I had - more than if I'd left all the broken chains and odd earrings sitting in my jewellery box! This is a popular jewellers so if you see something in the window or display case that you really want then I suggest you buy it or leave a deposit as they have a high turnover and tend to have completely different items by the following week. Even if I'm not planning on buying anything I will always have a look in the window because their more unusual pieces are displayed here and sometimes I'll see a pair of earrings or bracelet that I 'just have to have'! Everything is clearly labelled so the price can be seen from outside, this is great because I can see at a glance whether I can afford is as there is nothing worse than having to go in to ask the cost only to find that you can't afford it after all! Once inside the shop has a calm, quiet feel like any good jewellers shop. The glass display cabinets are sparkling clean and show the jewellery and gifts inside off beautifully. There always seems to be a lot of necklaces and link bracelets for sale inside the shop, as well as gold charms and pendants. I think the prices are extremely reasonable, obviously there are the more expensive pieces but you should be able to find something nice within your budget. Nightingales also sell a range of clocks and gifts including those gorgeous hologram pendants featuring a photograph you provide. I also like their crystal ornaments and have bought several as presents over the years - of course I also bought the Zippo from years ago which my friend still has and was beautifully engraved with her name. The staff in Nightingales are excellent, they never seem to rush you and are content to let you browse for as long as you need. I always get the impression that they want me to make the right purchase decision and not the most expensive option. This is great because sometimes in jewellers shop I get the feeling I am being nudged into the most expensive item, but not in here.
