I found this place on Yelp it had a good review, so we decided to try it. It started a bit slow as it took longer than expected to be waited on. Once we had service everything went smoothly. We order burgers call the "the world's best"on the menu. I would say maybe not the best I've had but in the top 5. The bun was fresh baked the meat seasoned well. The sweet potato fries were the best I've had. A beer was 4. They have a small but very interesting menu. We will be back to try other items. Had lunch here today based on a local's rec. it was really good. All three soups were excellent - tomato/gin bisque, crab & corn chowder and chicken tortilla. Entree's included pimento cheese sandwich (not my jam), meatloaf and chicken spaghetti...all good, none great. Greatness showed up when we ordered dessert. The triple chocolate brownie and German chocolate cake (warmed) were superb and the Reese's peanut butter pie was very, very good. There were several other interesting options on the menu...we'll definitely be back. BTW, our server was a lovely grandmother named "Hank" (a nickname she acquired when she was a sophomore in high school). Beautiful old fashioned home town look and feel. Our server did an excellent job of keeping our drinks full. My wife had a hamburger and fries, which were good, but the pickles were the star! Wow they were good. I had the brisket with garlic mashed potatoes and green beans. All were good and I left none. I would love to try other things on the menu, but will probably never be back in the area. Parking is available either on the street right in front, or across the street on the side road. I wish i took a picture of the tomato pie my friend got but i didn't. She made me try a bite and it was beyond my expectations. It was busy at lunch but we got served quickly and they weee attentive. This is such a unique find for Gainesville... there is truly no other comparable restaurant. The interior is absolutely beautiful. The food is definitely different, but no less fantastic. The first time I visited Sarah's On The Square I sat at the bar area, and every single waiter I spotted would ask if I needed anything. They are very attentive to customer needs. I tried the salmon plate and I truly have no complaints. The only downside I find is that the restaurant is always crowded when I returned after my first visit, but I suppose that's a testament to how wonderful the food and the service is! It took the wait staff 20 minutes to make their way to clean our table and offer us any drinks. it took 40 minutes to get our food and we never got offered refills for our drinks. This place is great! Delicious comfort food, uplifting and inspiring decor and awesome service! Our group had the chicken fried steak, the chicken spaghetti and the quiche. All were delicious! The chicken spaghetti tastes just like my grandmother's so of course I loved it! And the desserts...oh the desserts! Yum! Our group of 3 opted for each one of the flavors of dessert bars which were 1) triple chocolate brownie, 2) lemon, and 3) sopapilla cheesecake. These were SO delicious! The green beans were hot and crispy served with ranch dressing and the club was the perfect amount of turkey, ham, cheese, bacon, avocado, lettuce and tomato. We will definitely order both again. An amazing find! Followed Yelp recommendation and found a major treat! My travel companion and I stopped here for lunch on Memorial Day weekend. My hamburger steak, mashed potatoes, and green beans were all delicious. My companion's hamburger and sweet potato fries were likewise hot and tasty-best sweet potato fries ever! Our server, Amanda, was friendly, knowledgeable, and efficient. The decor was fun and casual . Decided to try a new place for dinner leaving Muenster. Service was superb at the bar. We had two old fashioneds and even though I prefer a boozy cherry, they tasted great. The chicken was alittle dry, the crust was burned. Had green beans, they we're really salty. The mashed potatoes were good, could have been lil creamier w/butter. The rolls served with dinner were amazing. They reminded me of the school lunch dinner rolls. So also got crab cakes as a appetizer. Two to a order, they were tasty but not the favor most crab cakes would have. Overall, the atmosphere is very romantic. Has one huge brick wall as interior. Quaint little cafe on the Square. Hubby and I walked in and was not greeted by anyone, but did see the sign to seat ourselves. The place was pretty crowded and the only table left was a six-top table. We did not want to take the big table, so decided to sit at the bar top. Not one of the three young ladies behind the bar and directly in front of us acknowledged us. Four people came in right after us, and took the table. Hubby and I noticed that they were greeted and served drinks. I finally asked one of the young ladies whether we are supposed to be at the bar top or we should have rudely taken the big table... her response... "oh 'she' has not helped you yet?" and immediately went into an excuse that "she" is new and overwhelmed. Hubby and I assumed "she" was one of the other servers. Our drinks and order was taken by the young lady, who immediately complained to "she" (in front of us) that we were not taken care of. Finally an older lady from the kitchen came out to help with the customers. Hubby had the rueben, which he said was good. I had chicken & corn chowder and half of Sarah's salad. The chowder was good, but the salad was nothing spectacular. Getting out check was almost the same experience as ordering in which "she" was overwhelmed and took forever to be acknowledged. The other young lady finally cashed us out as well. The food was good for the price, but the service is terrible. We were seated immediately to a small table for two. It took a LONG time for a person to come take our drink order. People kept coming by saying they'd be with us in a minute, but it ended up being about 20 minutes before we had drinks and a menu. We also had to wait a while on our food, but the food was great once it arrived. I had the chicken spaghetti and my husband had chicken fried steak. The waitstaff was not very attentive with refills or bringing our bill so that we could leave. The atmosphere was great as well as the location. This place has a cool story! I was traveling from Houston to Winstar and decided to try something different instead of the Winstar restaurant food. BIG MISTAKE!! We ordered the meatloaf, green beans, and mashed potatoes. The green beans were hard, bland, and lacked flavor. The potatoes had a good flavor and were edible. However, the meatloaf was not edible; it was bland and lacked flavor. We also ordered the chicken salad sandwich on croissant. The croissant was toasted, and the bread was hard, so I had to remove the bread's hard part. The sweet potato fries were good; they are just your regular bag of frozen potato fries. The chicken salad tastes store-bought instead of homemade; it lacks the homemade flavor of a chicken salad that I'm used to. However, when we asked the waitress to take back the meatloaf and get the chicken fried chicken instead, she said we had to order another meal and would be charged for another plate of food. We would have to pay for the chicken fried chicken plate plus the meatloaf plate, which the meatloaf was NOT EDIBLE. We opted not to order more tasteless, unedible food. The staff was nice and friendly; however, I will not return to this place for the food. I do not recommend this place to anyone traveling from out of town. You will be highly disappointed if you're looking for good homemade food. The restaurant has an old-fashioned vibe. read more

A friend highly recommended Sarah's for lunch but I was disappointed. I wanted some soup and the waitress highly recommended the tortilla soup but I found it to be rather tasteless. The service was poor and it took forever to get our food. Lunch took over 90 minutes and we were in a hurry. We ate at the bar even with hopes of it speeding up. The quiche tasted like it had been made with old bacon grease. And the baked potato was tiny and overcooked. So, not sure why this was a 4.5 stars on Yelp and Google had it as a 4.6. My husband and I went there for the first time, and we enjoyed the ambience of the restaurant. Our waitress was also very friendly and that made it more enjoyable. We both really enjoyed their rolls , especially the last batch that came fresh from the oven, and we loved their appetizer. They were the "white Wings" and they had a very unique and delightful flavor to them. We would order them again and I believe this is the first restaurant we've ever been to who offered them. They came with ranch dressing and I would give their ranch dressing a five 5 , it was really good.. My husband had the short ribs and he really enjoyed those. He would give them a five 5 and said they were very flavorful and absolutely delicious. I believe he enjoyed every drop of it. I had the lobster ravioli and truly was not very crazy about it. I had a lobster ravioli in vodka sauce from a family-owned Italian restaurant before and it was absolutely delicious and I guess I'm looking for more of that flavor profile. I didn't eat that much of what I ordered, and brought the rest home. In their defense, I've had an absolutely delicious one before and so these did not come close, and I'm not a monsoon lobster lover, more of a shrimp and crab lover, but somebody else might really like them.
