I always find something to purchase at this eclectic store. It is a go to store to shop consignment clothing, shoes, jewelry. Today though I was shopping for furniture. I found a great selection. There is a wide variety of styles and price range. There is new mixed some great pieces that have been painted for that farmhouse look. I bought the gray velvet chair, which will be a great curl up and read chair. The owner and staff are super attentive and friendly. If you need questions answered you can find someone in just moments. The merchandise changes frequently. If you see something you want, buy it then, it most likely won't be there when you return. Terrible place! I bought a Queen upholstered Bed frame and it is horrible! First, it was missing the wooden slots which holds the box spring. Staff told me that this frame is suitable for a box spring and mattress! Wrong, if you place the box spring and mattress on it - it is too high!!!! So I took the box spring off and just placed the mattress and it's way too low, I feel as though I am on the floor! I can't believe I'm just writing this review. Shout out to Sardis Marketplace for furnishing our home. We came here after a long unsuccessful day of furniture shopping and left with 4 pieces of furniture and some accessories like mirrors and frames. We bought a king size headboard and footboard, a queen size headboard and footboard, a vintage vanity and a sofa all for $1700. Really high quality items. The service there is amazing too. We worked with Jennifer and she's a doll! We used their delivery service to have all the items delivered - it was quick easy and professional. There are many wonderful booths with great items from furniture to clothes. Vintage, mid century, farmhouse, modern, new - there's something for everyone. They are constantly throwing events and are a great addition to the Charlotte furniture scene. We have been to Sardis three times since buying all our furniture and we will be long term customers. If you decide to bring it to the location yourself then you have to bring your one help to unload it. They have great furniture, but their customer service lacks. Delivered the wrong furniture, then said I had to wait 2 weeks for the replacement. After some complaining they told me I could have it that weekend, still having to pay the 150.00 delivery charge for their mistake. Upon coming to the house, they would not come in the house until the delivery charge was paid and would only take cash, when initially they said a check would be fine. Were they afraid the check would bounce! Not very good customer service, when it was their mistake in the first place. The friendliest people were the guys to help move things. I even tried talking and asking about a couple of pieces..SHE answered without even looking up as if I were not in the room. There was one Bernhardt piece I was REALLY interested in..however when I am treated like I was treated; I make it my business to NEVER purchase from that proprietor. I actually like this store, live close by, have purchased things here. Mostly, salespeople have been friendly to me. However, my mom had some furniture she wanted to consign. It is not 'yard sale' stuff, but a beautiful Queen Anne side table and an antique reproduction 'tilt'top' table, both in excellent condition, and a Queen Anne wing chair which, admittedly, needs a new cover. I sent photos and descriptions, as requested, to the email address they gave me at the store. I would understand if they do not want to consign my mom's things, but I have had NO reply after several weeks, even after I asked about it one day when I was in the store (I was assured that time I would receive a reply by the end of the day--not), and called another time to ask about getting a reply. They have a great space and good merchandise, but it seems their customer service is hit or miss, and they are not anxious to consign items, only to rent their booth space. I hope they survive, because I do like the store, but some changes need to be made. read more

I was there for their Saturday grand opening. It was jumping! Always good to see a place busy! Building is a good size and I love the location. Really great variety of items. Employees we're very nice even though it was as busy as it was and I was greeted with smiles. I mainly did a parameter sweep but more than a few items caught my eye. It wasn't just furniture either. There is a really good pimento cheese they sell there and also a booth with some heavenly candles and scents which I'm a sucker for. The only thing that was weird was some people were sitting at booths which I feel pressures me so I usually move ahead. They were eating so I figured they were just enjoying a nice meal and enjoying the music provided for the grand opening. They also had a steampunk booth with circle frame glasses! I purchased a used sofa from Sardis Marketplace. I talked to the salesman about the pricing, because I thought it was high for a used sofa. We negotiated on a price. I made sure that all of the pillows located on the sofa was included in the price. He answered yes. This included two pillows that look the same as the sofa as well as two decorative pillows. Added onto that price was sales tax and a delivery fee, which I paid. We set up a time for delivery the next day at 3pm. The next morning, I realized that I had an appointment at 3pm and so I called to see if I could change the delivery time, even to another day. The manager, Jennifer, stated that because they were opening on Saturday, this was the only time that they could deliver and if that would not work out, then I'd have to pick it up myself -- even though I'd paid for a delivery. And even so, it was no longer 3pm but 3:40pm. Apparently, if you set up delivery with them, they can change the time, but you cannot. So, I arranged for a neighbor to be here when they arrived. One thing that was good was that they showed up on time, which is unusual for delivery men. When I got home from my appointment, the two decorative pillows were not delivered. I called Sardis Marketplace and got the woman in charge (below Jennifer) who was belligerent and not in a "customer friendly" voice told me that because of the "deal" that I got, there was no way that they could include the decorative pillows. I informed her that the salesman told me that they were included and she responded that if I wanted to buy them at cost ($26).. that was the only way I could have them. The main issue I have with the whole conversation was the tone. It was not customer friendly. Very upsetting. And I did not get all that I thought I was paying for. So, if you do go here. Make sure that you take the item with you as they will not honor what the sales people say. And be careful if you do set up delivery as it's up to their schedule, not yours. And if you cannot accommodate it... you will be required to set up other delivery options. Note that this may be partly due to the fact that they are having their grand opening in 4 days and so maybe this was all due to a stressful situation. But I still would be careful with the customer service in this shop. read more

If i could give a one star i would. They have terrible customer service . I called this morning to pay for something i saw online they stated i could after telling them i knew all sales were final and i just wanted to pay over the phone because i was at work still nothing. At the same time i was speaking to someone over Facebook about it seeing if it was still avabile and they said yes. While in a conversation with someone after knowing that i wanted to purchase the item they came back with its sold! In 30 secs and in the middle of a conversation with me it was sold but customer had not paid yet. So i then call the store and ask to pay for it the 2nd time and was told a manager would call me back because someone was looking at it.... Still not purchased when im trying to purchase it over phone. No manager called me as i waited, it then was marked sold online right out from under me when i had agreed to all sales final and agreed to pay for it over the phone! I will never purchase anything else from here due to a lack of customer service and caring about a long time customer due to no one trying to make it right when customer that had looked at couch should have been told it was sold when i tried 2 times to buy over the phone! read more

Bought a "brand new" (albeit floor model) sofa set here. We were SO excited, as we love the look, color, and how comfortable it is. Goes beautifully in our living room! Unfortunately, after we had it delivered, I discovered that it has a horrendous STENCH that smells like vomit that I can't seem to get out! I kept smelling it and couldn't understand where it was coming from at first, til I finally sniffed the love seat and sofa. Whoosh! Bull's eye! That's where it was. Big time! So then I tried everything I could think of to get the stink out of it. Antibacterial soap. Baking soda. Nature's Miracle. Other Enzymatic Pet Odor Eliminators, etc. NOTHING WAS WORKING! In fact, the stench was getting worse. It got to where I was smelling it throughout the whole house, even upstairs... The stink had also gotten on my clothes from sitting in it, so had to wash everything that touched it. I poured a whole GALLON of Nature's Miracle on it. Saturated it several times over a 5 day period, in case the smell was down deep. Still stunk! I checked with the mfr website for tips to clean it, but found nothing helpful. So I called Sardis Marketplace and asked if they could pls advise on how to get the smell out. And, if I can't get the stink out, could I exchange it for another just like it that doesn't stink? (We love the set otherwise...) The sales rep said he'd see what could be done, but the manager flat out refused to even consider an exchange or return, and actually had the audacity to shift the blame to ME. (Saying I had opportunity to notice any smell when I looked at it in the store, and, if I didn't notice it there, it's my problem.) I didn't notice it at the store when we looked at it, so I can't help wondering what happened to it between the time we purchased it and its delivery... (It was in the store about a week after we bought it.) Did something get on it at the store? Or did something happen during the delivery process? Or was it just not as noticeable in the openness of the store vs. our home? Have no idea. All I know is I've tried EVERYTHING I can think of to get the stink out of it. Exasperated, I called Nature's Miracle to see if maybe I needed to do something differently, but they said no, it should NOT still stink. (They actually advised me to file a suit against the store. But I'm not one to like doing that sort of thing. I really just want it to stop stinking!) I called the manager back and asked if she could at least find out where the sofa set had been or what may have happened to it, so I might have an idea how to tackle the smell. And asked if she could contact the vendor/mfr for advice on how to get rid of the smell. She said she would, but I never heard back from her, and doubt I ever will. (She was rather rude with me, actually, and clearly had not intention of taking any responsibility for this situation.) My advice to anyone thinking of buying from Sardis Marketplace is: (1) be daring enough to put your nose close to whatever you're thinking of buying BEFORE taking the plunge; (2) request the option to inspect the item and smell it BEFORE allowing it in your home, with the WRITTEN OPTION to receive a FULL REFUND/EXCHANGE if the item is not exactly as it was when you purchased it; (3) If they refuse to allow this, WALK AWAY!!! Know that they will NOT be kind to you as a customer or take responsibility for any product that is not in the condition you bought it in. read more

I was so excited to check out this new home decor place yesterday that I got up early on a Saturday to venture out. I was so disappointed, not in the store itself, but the folks that are working there. I had three incidences while in the store for a total of 20 minutes. When I first arrived I was standing in a section looking at furniture when the vendor for the space walked right pass me to a mother and child standing right next to me to talk about his space and the ongoing sale. He didn't acknowledge me at all. The second issue came up when I was in another space and was waiting for a sales associate who was standing right next to me to confirm a price for an item. Though the sales associate was speaking to another couple, I figured I would wait until they finished their conversation to ask for help. Instead of turning to help me, as I was clearly standing next to her, she walked away. Finally, I found one item in a section where no one was working and went to cash out. When I got to the cashier three of the sales associates were chatting. Instead of stopping and letting me pay for my item, one of the associates remained her ground in front of me blocking the cash register. I had to reach around her to place my item in front of the cashier for her to get the hint to move. Not one of them, and there were three, greeted me, said excuse me, or asked me how I enjoyed my shopping experience. The cashier asked me about the sale and I told him I didn't know what he was talking about since no one spoke to me during the 20 minutes I was in the store. Again, no apology. I promptly paid for my small item and left. I figured the vendor I gave money to didn't deserve to be slighted due to the horrible service that I received. Don't waste your time here. The selection doesn't provide enough motivation to visit an establishment that doesn't want your business. read more

I was very excited about making the trip to Sardis Marketplace and was impressed by some of the beautiful booths. However, my second visit was met with dreadful and insulting service. My mother and I were interested in a nightstand that had substantial paint problems and would need complete refinishing. During my last visit, I was told that I could make an offer on this piece due to its condition. When I tried to make an offer today, I was lectured by a storekeeper who insulted my intelligence and claimed she could "refinish the piece and sell it for $150". She would NOT let us get a word in. Nowhere on the nightstand did it say "as is" and the standard in furniture shopping is to reasonably offer 10-20% off for a damaged piece. My mother has extensive knowledge about furniture and antique shopping. We did not need someone lecturing us and making us feel like unreasonable, cheap customers for making an offer on a "garage sale condition" piece. The shopkeeper was rude and condescending in the way she talked to us. They finally offered to call the vendor but we had lost interest at that point due to the lecture we received by who we think was the owner. We had a great furniture shopping experience in Asheville, Gaffney, and Charleston, where we were met with friendly and knowledgable service. If Sardis Marketplace is going to sell damaged furniture, they need to label it "as is" and should perhaps correctly inform their customers of their store policy. I personally do not want to purchase anything from a place with such a rude staff member. When I told the staff that I was treated badly and didn't appreciate their attitude, the rude storekeeper informed me that "this was not her intent" and she was "having a bad day". Not an excuse. Sardis Marketplace needs to invest in some customer relations training ASAP. read more

I could easily spend $1000 and furnish a whole room with awesome furniture and funky artsy stuff. Unfortunately my house is nearly 4,000 miles away so I just bough some cool little items - sunglasses, artwork, jewelry, presents. I seriously couldn't believe the pricing. I really don't even like to shop but could have spent hours here. I am considering having an entire dining room set shipped to CA...that is how reasonable the prices are. Jen, the owner, was so interesting to talk to as well. She's smart and realistic about opening a business. It may get off to a slow start but I suspect this place will be a goldmine within the next year or two. Fantastic place! read more

On a recent trip to Charlotte I visited Sardis with family. What an amazing shop! It's full of such a variety of great things. There is definitely something for everyone. I typically don't leave reviews, but when I read what a few others had to say about the customer service, I wanted to chime in. That certainly was NOT my experience here. I was greeted at the door and the staff was very helpful and friendly! They did say it was a newer shop, so I assume it was just some growing pains. Sadly, we don't have a shop like this where I live. I will definitely make a return visit on my next trip to Charlotte! read more

I went to Sardis Marketplace today to look for some furniture for my daughter's apartment. I will not be going back. Some of the booths were nice, but the customer service was appalling. My daughter, Gabbi (who posted earlier ) had spotted a bedside table. The paint on the top of the table was completely eroded on one corner all the way to the bare wood. The entire piece was going to need to be repainted. After asking Jennifer and another employee if they could call the booth owner to see if he would come down on the price - something which is a standard procedure on a damaged item- we were told very rudely that the booth owner would not come down in price and that we should not even be asking. We were told that they would only ask the booth owner to come down $5. We felt insulted by this because we obviously would not bother someone for a paltry $5 markdown. And it went on - the employee told me that she could buy the piece herself for $40, refinish it and resell it for $150. Is this the way you talk to a potential customer? She did not even look at us but just walked off. As someone who has refinished many pieces of furniture and who just visited seven antique stores in Asheville alone, I was shocked at the rudeness of Jennifer and the other employee. We had had a wonderful time in the Asheville shops on Swannanoa- friendly, great service and great furniture! And clearly, the bedside table at Sardis Marketplace should have been marked "AS IS" - I do not know why Sardis Marketplace would want to carry damaged pieces anyway. We had looked at several items and were interested in buying some, but after being treated so rudely, we lost all interest. read more
