One of the things I missed the most from living in Germany was the theater scene; after moving back…read moreone of the first things I did was check out the theater scene here in Hamburg as I was only exposed to the one in Berlin previously. The Schauspielhaus is exactly what I was looking for and in many ways its the perfect theater: both contemporary and classic plays in both contemporary and classic productions both political and not (though mostly political). The company itself is top notch and the stage design and costume as well. There are three different stages at the Schauspielhaus, from large productions to up in the Rangfoyer with only about 75 other people. The theater itself is one of the most beautiful Ive been in and its a great place to see a play. Though I cannot get student rates on tickets anymore I still find the Schauspielhaus to be fairly priced, if you live in town get a subscription or Die Karte (50% off up to two tickets a show for a whole year) and save even more- I usually sit in a box with my girlfriend for no more than 25 EUR total for the both of us.
