Dined in. Food was good, and great bang-to-buck value. Had the dinner bento box and was happy to see a healthy proportion of meats and sides. Ordered a salmon skin roll, which had a fair amount of salmon and other ingredients stuffed in. Certainly not the "Japanese way", but it was delicious and filling. The only complaint I have was that service was a bit rude as we felt rushed to finished our meals so they could close up shop. Nonetheless, I'll still recommend this place. I've eaten many times here but today was probably the last time. I typically go with a friend for lunch. Today we ordered our usual lunch combos. When the food arrived, the server spilled a bowl of HOT tempura liquid in my lap. Wow it was hot. The server apologized and brought me some extra napkins so I could wipe up the hot liquid from my lap, legs, the seat I was on and the table. It was all over tho mostly in my lap and on my legs. The server said he was sorry twice, handed me extra napkins, and then mostly ignored us. He had delivered our food but my friend's lunch was missing her sashimi. We had to ask multiple times to get her sashimi. The restaurant was not busy. Then a final indignity (after a bowl of hot liquid in my lap and having to ask multiple times for the main part of friend's lunch), there was no discount on the bill. What? Hot liquid in my lap, multiple requests for the sashimi, and not even a comp for the edamame, or an apology for the bad service? I asked for a discount, and got a small one, but I shouldn't have had to ask. I was a server myself for many years and spilling a hot liquid in someone's lap was an automatic comp for the whole meal. The server acted like meh, no big deal. Stained my pants, my underwear, and my thighs are still red from the heat. Not just poor service but bad and indifferent service. I won't be back. A little effort on their part would have made a world of difference. read more

This place follows CoVID protocols. Every table has hand sanitizer and has a sign indicating whether the table has been sanitized, which gives me a piece of mind. First time trying this restaurant. Ordered just 1 roll for takeout, the Megabyte. Total was ~$21 after tax. Order was completed very quickly, and the roll itself tasted fine, but the portion was not very big, so I would consider the roll on the expensive side for its taste and size. While 1 roll here barely filled my appetite, a roll at the Nijiya Market nearby is only $10-12 and very filling. Perhaps there's some thing more suitable on the menu for myself, so I may try this restaurant again in the future. read more

Solid sushi experience. A great place to try out various sushi rolls. Satsuma Sushi is a Japanese-run food establishment that specializes in sushi, sashimi, and more. My friend and I were looking for a place in Mountain View that could offer quality sushi, and so we set our sights to here. In chronological order, we got ourselves the Hi-Five ($18), the Crunch Caliente ($12), the California Roll ($6), the Dynamite Roll ($7), and the Cal Rose ($14). See menu for description on rolls. Hi-Five (5/5) - The menu picture is misleading; nonetheless, what I got was a wonderful combination of great sushi rice, fatty fish, sweet unagi sauce, and spicy mayo. The ends of the roll have shrimp tempura which are crunchy and tasty. Cucumber was minor, which is personally how I like it since I'm not huge on cucumber. This is what you get when you need something well-rounded and with a mild kick. 8 pcs. Crunch Caliente (5/5) - Sleeper pick! This is my first time having sushi coated with tempura flakes and fish roe at the same time. An unusually flavorful roll with a certain complex. Can be fairly difficult to pick up with chopsticks. We were actually debating on getting this again. Way too good for its selling price. 8 pcs. California Roll (5/5) - Up there with some of the best California rolls I've ever had. I did not realize you could elevate this simple roll a notch higher. It has got to be be that great sushi rice I was alluding to earlier. 8 pcs. Dynamite Roll (4/5) - This is certainly great on its own, but it stands as the weakest of the orders we placed simply because it did not hit for us the same way the others did. Deep-fried sushi is simply not our preference since it warms the fish and gives us conflicting texture, but if you enjoy deep-fried sushi, you might enjoy this roll. Great sweet and spicy sauce nonetheless. 5 pcs. Cal Rose (4.5/5) - If you are looking to go easy with your sushi roll and you are okay with some kick, this may do just the trick. It is hard to go wrong with spicy tuna, flying fish roe, and spicy mayo. Such a classic combination. 8 pcs. The ambience and the service was phenomenal. Regarding the latter, you may need to speak more thoroughly and slower for some of the Staff members there so they can better understand your orders or inquiries. The first two orders came to our table in 15 minutes after placing them. Meanwhile, the last three orders came to our table in 10 minutes after placing them. On a Wednesday evening, you can expect there to be not a lot of people. Bathrooms were really nice and clean. There is a suggested gratuity fee. Overall, Satsuma Sushi offers tasty sushi at reasonable prices. My friend and I were satisfied with our time here and we would highly recommend it to anyone who happens to be in the Mountain View area craving sushi. read more

A relative of ours lives near this place and has it as his go-to so we hit this spot up before we left town for lunch and it did not disappoint. It was busy but we didn't have to wait for very long and our waitress even though she had a lot of tables did have help and was on our drinks and plates very quickly. They even gave us a free sampler of an appetizer which was delish. Our food was soo good. The rolls were fresh and had lots of flavor, they had great toppings and sauces and we all shared and had a little bit of everything and it was soo good. I ordered the Salmon Paradise roll and I wasn't the biggest fan. The salmon tempura inside of it was dry and tasted a little too fishy for me. Also, I didn't really like the mayo sauce on top since it was overpowering in my opinion. Considering the dish wasn't cheap (I believe it was ~$17), I wouldn't get this again. I tried the Alaska roll (salmon and avocado) and thought it was much better. The service was okay. Our waters were filled multiple times, but there were a couple minor issues. For the first two plates they brought out, they didn't clarify that they put two different rolls on the same plate so they actually brought out 3 dishes but only two plates. This led to some confusion in our group and someone accidentally started eating someone else's order since they put both plates in front of him. While this isn't necessarily the services fault, I think this could've been avoided if the server had explained that they combined two rolls onto one plate and/or knew who ordered what. Lastly, most of the food came out in a reasonable time, but my salmon paradise roll came about 15 minutes after everyone else got their food. Overall, while I didn't enjoy my order, the rest of the food looked pretty good. This restaurant is fine, but considering its prices and the plethora of other sushi places in the bay, I wouldn't exactly say this place is a must visit. read more

The parking plaza that the restaurant is in is fairly empty during lunch. We can get a table immediately and there is generally no wait time. There are plenty of booths or table seating whenever I come by. I usually come here for some rolls or sashimi which is average I feel. The sashimi is sliced thick but I feel as though I had fresher fish elsewhere. My mom on the other hand likes to get their bento boxes. They have a lot of choices for the bento which is why we keep coming back. There are combo options with the bento and I enjoy those more than the sushi here. The staff here always get our orders right, and props to them! And their service is generally pretty fast. read more

When I got home to open up my chirashi, I was very impressed at the amount of food and freshness of the fish! Everything was delicious and it was enough for 2 meals. I love the fact that Satsuma is a Japanese-run restaurant as there are small details that I really appreciate such as the service, decor, crockery and plating. I love buckwheat noodles so had the Tenzaru Soba - Tempura With Chilled Buckwheat Noodle. It was so beautifully presented with the added grated daikon, green onion and wasabi. Everything came together beautifully and so refreshing on a warm day. For the two-items bento, we got the salmon teriyaki and sashimi (a choice of either maguro "tuna", albacore "white tuna", sake "salmon" or hamachi "yellowtail tuna"). The salmon teriyaki was a bit dry and overcooked, otherwise, everything else we great. This is a wonderful neighborhood restaurant and a place for me to stop by and grab some food whenever I visit PAMF/Sutter Health, which is located right next door. read more

I'm a big fan of eating Sushi and I have been to plenty of Japanese restaurants both in the US and abroad, I can say that this place has DELICIOUS Sushi. It taste VERY fresh and yummy. At the Satsuma Sushi restaurant on El Camino next to Best Buy, I ordered the sashimi lunch which consisted of 9 pieces of sashimi, a bowl of miso soup, steamed white rice, and hot tea. The sashimi was tasty and good quality. Miso soup was OK, not bad but could be better. White rice is - well - plain white rice. What was irritating was the semi-loud rock music that Satsuma Sushi played. Rock music in a Japanese restaurant?? Not copacetic. That irritation means that I probably will not return unless I heard from the owner/manager that they will play gentle or no music. The waiter was OK but not particularly cordial. Went to satsuma today (Saturday) after running an errand at Best Buy. Didn't read the menu carefully before arrival and realized lunch prices were only weekdays but it was fine since there were more options on the dinner combo anyways. We got two 2 item bentos. One with salmon teriyaki and sashimi and one with beef sukiyaki and tekka maki. Food was good and service was attentive and kind. They kept checking on our tea and made sure our table was attended to. They even have tables with tags once they've been sanitized before seating people which is super reassuring. Only complaint may be that the sushi chef's mask wasn't covering his nose as that the sukiyaki didn't taste like a sukiyaki but more like a hot pot flavored with sukiyaki sauce, but all in all, a delectable lunch experience! read more

i have been here and gotten food for here several times and is typically my go-to sushi place ever since the first time i have been here. the menu has a lot of options of more than just sushi rolls but also bento boxes. sweetheart roll; (8/10) this sushi roll has always been my favorite because it has everything i like. salmon, unagi, avocado, imitation krab, cream cheese, and rice, wrapped in nori, then fried, topped with spicy mayo, unagi sauce, and masago. my dream sushi roll. everything goes so well together and if you can manage to fit the entire piece in a single bite it would taste like heaven. personally, i am not a fan of spicy mayo but it was not too overpowering. being a big fan of unagi sauce i wish there was more unagi sauce as well as unagi in the roll itself. due to the pandemic, the price of the roll has increased to seventeen dollars which is a substantial price for a sushi roll. i believe that the size of the roll itself has also gotten smaller. the last time i dined here in person i remember the portion and sizes being massive. not only the sushi roll but also the other entrees like the chicken teriyaki. i remember the staff here being so kind and making us smile. despite the price, i will likely go here for special occasions or just when i feel like splurging. read more

simple, authentic sushi place in South Bay. Very polite and quick service. The sushi is really fresh. We got the regular Sushi and Sashimi combo which included a few pieces of sashimi, nigiri and California roll sushi. It was served with ginger and wasabi. Fish was fresh. The crab was imitation but I liked it. Miso soup was also included in the combo which was okay. We also got the special sweetheart roll plate - salmon and cream cheese in a fried crunchy exterior. I liked the concept but it was a bit too oily/creamy for me. Maybe others might like the combo. A pretty popular place and I hope to try their other offerings soon. read more
