Food was pure vegetarian and the buffet thali was amazing and the sabji were very very delicious

One of THE best places I have been to. I think this is what got me into indian cuisine. I have been here twice, and was never disapointed. Wide selection of general indian and south-indian food, good quality, has a buffet for you hungry yelpers, and I had to double check the prices, as I could not believe how cheap it was. The food is so good. The service is so bad. For the service, this review probably would get one star. The food is perfect. Even when I didn't particularly like a dish, I couldn't actually fault how it was made. I have yet to try the buffet because the menu is so affordable and full of interesting delightful dishes! I could not praise the food enough. And the price point is frankly unbeatable. But the service! Today, my party of three went in right around opening time. There were only a few parties. We were told we could sit wherever we wanted. We put in an order. Over an hour later - literally, not exaggerating - still no food. I have seen a table seated after us receive their dishes. A waitress comes over - is she going to apologize? No, she's going to reseat us at a worse table and leave. I don't care about being reseated, but she jetted off before anyone could ask where our food was. Another waitress came back to inform us they could not make half the food we ordered. No alternative was suggested. Just "We're not making that, we're out." They couldn't tell us that right when we ordered? We came just as they opened, how were they out? It took an hour to figure out that they couldn't complete our meal? We substituted two other dishes. Eventually our half order came out and we asked for plates - this has never been a problem in the past. The waitress said "Yes of course!" and then ignored the request entirely. We waited another ten minutes or so before one of our party just went and grabbed what we needed from the buffet area. Our substitute dishes came out almost immediately - making me think our first try ordering wasn't even communicated in the first place. An earlier time we arrived and were asked to wait until a table opened up for us. We waited. And waited. And stood waiting. Staring at the man who told us to wait. He never said anything to us again, another waitress came out confused as to why we were waiting and seated us. There were plenty of empty tables in the back, and we hadn't seen anyone leave. Maybe a half hour after taking our order someone told us part of our order was "too difficult to make." The first time we went, the waitress didn't keep track of our order and didn't know what was on the menu, so at the register we had to take a menu out and read out what we got. Another staff member was just seated staring at her and didn't help. The staff seems to consist of one professional waitress and people who just seem to be helping out. I have no idea what the kitchen is like - it must be chaos if they lose orders for hours at a time. The food really is amazing though. Come, and if they're busy get the buffet. If it's a little dead try out the menu. Don't expect professional service or apologies for anything that goes wrong. read more

Party of 4 of us stopped here for Sunday lunch as it made a convenient pit stop on drive from Amsterdam back to Brussels. Our order was 3 mango lassis, one coffee, two lunch buffet, one masala dosa and one onion dosa. Total was under 40 bucks so happy with value for money. All the food was really good too - not super oily or watered down, which the dubious Indian restaurant do sometimes play these tricks. Of the buffet offerings, I really liked the paneer, the black eyed Susan curry and the okra as well as the halva dessert. Was not impressed with the puris - too small. My other diners enjoyed their food and we wil definitely be back. read more

I've been here several times. if you want to eat a lot, and all healthy! Try it. very good buffet, it's 12 euro now I think. But worth it. The waiter service is a bit clumsy, you may get completely wrong drink. Food is very nice, not the best Indian food, but commoners taste would perceive it savory. ;) read more

I was quite surprise by how food was nice as it is a 10 euros all you can eat restaurant :D The place is super friendly if you want to enjoy your lunch alone as well. I find some restaurants let people who are alone a bit uncomfortable, but Aahaar was very welcoming. The only thing I think that should be better is that some of the dishes could be a bit warmer. read more

Real, regional, Indian cuisine is near impossible to find in this part of the world. Antwerp has a reasonably sized Indian community too but Indian restaurants are few in number let alone specialized. In that light Aahaar is a nice surprise. The place looks and smells authentic, it specializes in South Indian, of the veg persuasion. They also run a competitively priced but simple buffet. We ordered vada pav (which is not South Indian but a Marati snack), bhajis, masala and madras dosa, and biryani. The bhajis were good if a little dense, accompanied by a delicious mint chutney. The vada pav was served in some kind of bread but not a pav which is a plain bread roll. Taste wise the vada was one of the highlights of the meal, well spiced and a good amount of heat. The dosa was OK, it wasn't (as) thin and crispy as it should be but the stuffing was fine. Dosa comes with sambar and coconut chutney, Aahaar's version of both is mediocre. The Biryani was, admittedly not a very orthodox choice but we had to try, its a benchmark dish and it takes skill to get it right. This version was OK but not great. It had some good flavour but it was more like a pilaf and too greasy. Fried onions, fresh mint and coriander were missing entirely. The service is poor in every respect: rather unfriendly (I can live with that) and disorganized which I find harder to take. The verdict then, is mixed, it's so good to see a place like this. On the other hand a pity to find the food is a good attempt but no more than that. In India itself this place would not I think manage to keep its doors open for long. I hope Aahaar build and improve on what they've started. If they do, the place could become a treasure, if they do not; another disappointment for those looking for the real deal. 3 stars for potential then. read more

We came to Aahar because Bollywood, our first choice, was closed for repair and renovations. The restaurant's service is a bit lousy and food is okay, nothing to rave about. At the time of our visit, many items on the menu were unavailable (Idli, Dosas, Samosa Chaat, etc..) However, this place is good for snacking not necessarily dining. Jains may be delighted to find Jain dishes! read more
