It's a great alternative to the very crowded Safeway, near Brunswick. It is pricey in comparison, but it's usually less busy.

Gail Bailey is the most helpful Manager. She took the time to assist in finding items throughout the store. Great customer Service!

They do have everything at this super safeway! They have a large floral department..large bakery...and hot and cold food in the deli. I went here to get suishi but they only had poke bowls available. They also have a meat and fish department with a large selection to choose from. They also have tons of fresh fruit and veggies to choose from along with hot soup to go. There is a Starbucks inside the store and they are getting their Christmas decorations out. The line can get a bit long if you go early! What i do like about this store is that they have alot of premade salads and sandwiches to go which is great if you are in a hurry! I will still go here when i am looking for something special that might not be available at the smaller Safeway. Nice and clean inside!

Probably two or three weeks ago I went into Safeway to buy some pork chops that were on sale for…read more399 a pound. For me that was an OK deal, because I really wanted some pork chops. I bought a pack slightly over 3 pounds for about $13.50 Went home and opened up the package and pulled the first one out and it looks like a pork chop but one side of it was 1 inch thick and the other side was about an eighth of an inch thick. Just a piece of garbage. Almost impossible to cook evenly. Remember this is Safeway, the most expensive grocery store stores that we have here in grass Valley in my opinion. I went ahead and took the other for pork chops out of the package so I could freeze them two Ziploc baggies for later. Two of them were fine. Bone in pork loin chops. That's what I wanted and that's what I paid for. The fourth pork chop with something maybe a cut off a pork roast or something. Certainly not a pork chop. The fifth was a small pork chop That looked like the first piece of garbage but even worse. It looked like a dog had already chewed on it. Now I'm pissed. I took my receipt and the two crappy pork chops. I had left out of the package of five and went back to Safeway and immediately got a manager. He was courteous and receptive and asked him to follow me back to the meat department because I needed somebody there with me because I was about to lose my mind. He went and called a butcher out, and I explained to him my disappointment. 60% of the pork chops I bought, three out of four were trash. The irony is that they were basically hidden under the other pork chops. 100% deceptive trade practices. They put pork scraps in my pork chops with the belief that nobody would complain and say oh well I'm just home. I'll go ahead and eat this garbage. The Butcher acted like he was king turd of poop Mountain. Two times during our conversation, which only lasted two minutes, he reminded me that he was really important and had to get back in there cutting meat. Rude, and dismissing. They did replace the two really bad pork chops. I brought back with proper pork loin chops because they had no choice. We haven't met, but I'm the guy that's gonna take my two pork chops with me. I was mad as hell, but I was super polite to everybody. I'm super disappointed that Safeway allows that in the deceptive practices of hiding inferior cuts under one that look good, is probably what goes on a lot because I'll just find it a statistical improbability that that's the first time that's happened Safeway, you can eat my shorts. You should do better. I'm almost ashamed to say that my first job was bagging groceries at Safeway when I was in high school in 1985. SAFEWAY, YOU NEED TO DO BETTER,

Ends up this store has so many cool things. We sampled a bunch of things and everything was great not to mention the lady who was working was very nice and super knowledgeable. We ended up getting the Olives and the Brussels Sprouts Kimchi. Yes, Brussels Sprouts. Also the Kombucha was great! I am kinda of glad we were out of town or it is safe to say I would be there every weekend. Thank you.

Perhaps "Health Markets, Bakery?, Grocery" could help as additional categories for Yelpers to find them. Stopped by as we were passing through Grass Valley specifically because the storefront caught our eye and we are quick to be curious about anyone who is moving forward in the much needed fermented food niche. They create krauts made with different combinations of ingredients for delectable flavoring, from juniper to hops to apple! In addition are specialty products like probiotic olives and dilly beans. Ingredients are organic and locally-sourced. Sample one or all in order to choose your favorites. They also offer specialty ketchup, mustard, kombucha, and locally made ancient grains bread. The store is pristine, they sell ferment equipment including fermentation crocks (including one that is locally made!), hermetic glass bottles, how-to books, and other supplies. A great place to pick up what you need or gift to friends. The owners, Chris and Cristina are very friendly and welcoming. They're open to feedback and interested in widening their community of ferment aficionados. Their product is found in local stores and they have a strong interest in supporting their local community and gut health while providing education about the benefits of fermented foods.
