I love pottery and I usually always can fine a piece or two that I must have, but on my way to find pottery, I see they have started putting designer handbags right up front for all to see with ungodly price's, I know designer handbags are expensive but come on $289.? I have noticed that this $289. handbag has hung there for a while, I wonder when their going to figure out that maybe it's priced too high, I bought a Kate Spade purse there that was in great condition, marked at 89.99 and with my senior Tuesday discount I paid around 63.00 even that is high, but it was my birthday and figured I would treat myself considering that purse sells for $349. Hit or miss. Sometimes I find good things and other days I find nothing I'd buy. Today's experience was subpar. I wanted to look at their jewelry case, which they have right near the front door. I had my wagon as close to me as possible. I didn't think it was blocking any walkway. However, their employee, Alvina, moved my cart, which I had my hand on, and then put it away. I said, "That's my cart." Her reply, verbatim, "It's blocking the way. You can get another one when you are done looking." I could have rolled it in another direction, but she took the cart from me without apology, without recourse. BTW, she ended up helping me at the jewelry case, and her breath was kickin'. After, i began to browse and found a few things I wanted. They DO NOT test any electronic and will sell you TRASH with NO RETURNS. I have bought 3 electronic items and this is the last straw! I bought a food processor that was in it's original box but when I got it home it was missing parts and did not even work at all as well as it smelled of bad electronic burning smell. WTH SAVERS?! They have a no return policy on this so I just threw away $$ that I can not afford to just give away. Absolutely ridiculous prices for a secondhand store. I went to this location one time because I wanted to experience a thrift store in Hawaii. There is no sign that states the return policy. Instead it is printed on the receipt AFTER the item is already purchased. There is also no available changing room to try on the products before you buy them. I checked out right before close with the intention of taking back anything that didn't fit me the next day but after going and being rudely told that they only allow exchanges and on the same day of the return I had to walk out. Okay, so the wife and I are all about that discounted, gently used thrift life so when we needed some last minute items for the beach we knew to start here! Now I couldn't find a simple bamboo rolling beach mat to save our lives!? I checked Don Quijote (another HI guilty pleasure of ours), Safeway, Walmart and even Longs with no success. The wife wanted a rash guard for when we went to go swim w/ the sharks and we didn't want to pay +$50 for it so we hit Savers. Sure enough, not only did we find her rash guard ($10) but we also found my mat and not just one but it was like all the one's in HI were hiding out here and it was $1.99!! Cannot beat that price for a beach mat to use for a week and donate to the homeless when we're done w/ it! Also managed to find a beach towel too! The wife even found a pair of pink cheetah shorts for me which I absolutely love and only another $10! They had lots of swim trunks too but I had brought enough and we had zero extra space so I stuck w/ the necessities and of course my pink cheetah print shorts! I love this thrift store and I go at least once a month. On Mondays members save 20%, it's free to become a member. And on Wednesdays military and military i.d. card holders save 25%. So that's nice that there's additional ways to save even more. The only thing that I would consider a con is that some items can be dusty or dirty. I love bargain hunting, and the thing about Savers is you don't know what you might find. I have been going here for years and I've scored a lot of great deals--some things even brand new! I've found one of a kind vintage clothing & decor to made in Hawaii brands and even upscale fashion brand clothing and handbags. However, in the last year I've noticed the prices have started to go way up. I used to work in retail and I know how much certain things usually run. Some items that are being sold used cost more than when they are being sold new in stores. This location gets busy, the customer service is ok. The guy that usually stands at the door is super nice! Some of the cashiers have gotten nicer since I've been bringing in my baby--he tends to get people smiling. But a lot of the workers here aren't very friendly and seem like they're just trying to finish their shift. Don't get me wrong, I totally understand, but like I said I used to work in retail and customer service is supposed to be crucial in a retail environment.. granted it's Savers, I get it. Anyways, there's no restroom anymore, there's a lot of toys and books to choose from if you have kids. I also like the fact that you can donate things and get a 10-30% off card for your upcoming purchase. This coupon isn't for use on new items being sold by Savers directly but everything else is up for discount. There are also pretty neat items for house decor and appliances. They also have a membership card where you can rack up points through purchases and get a discount, all they need is your phone number so there's no need for you to keep track of an actual card. They also have days that are 50% off or certain color tags that are 50% off daily which is neat. However, be prepared for a long line on the "special discount" days because it gets NUTS.. like line wrapped around the store twice nuts! read more

I think it had been years since I last went into a Savers store of any kind, even when living in California for 20+ years. Anyway, I needed to look for some Halloween costumes for 2017 and one of my friends and co-workers suggested I go here to find some good deals. Savers is a good thrift store and have a lot more treasures and good used items (courtesy of donations) that I wouldn't find even at places like Ross Dress For Less, TJMaxx, and other mainstream retailers. This was my first experience ever with shopping for gently used clothing. I must say that I was surprised at how pleasant my experience was at Savers. The clothes were all nicely hung on hangers and in good condition. I would say it seemed a lot more organized than Ross Dress for Less! My mission was to find a pair of pants for the Swamp Romp, and I was able to find what I was looking for in less than 10 minutes, and it was only $3.99!. I even ended up buying another pair of pants for casual outings. I was in a rush and didn't get to check out the wonderful book section that Terry K. mentioned, but I'll probably check it out on my next visit. When I was unemployed I was on a budget and my friends who were always dressed nice with clothes that didn't look like it was from a thrift store told me to go Savers because that is where they get all their clothes from. So I went to the Kalihi Savers to see what they had. I was impressed how large the store was. The floor was reasonably clean,high ceiling,air conditioning was a relief from the hot weather The men's section was easy to find looking at large signs that were posted. I found the section for the men's dress shirts,the extra large sizes were on long racks and I inspected each one carefully, All the shirts were clean and not wrinkled, I took my time to choose shirts in my size that would look good on me. I chose three long sleeve in different colors and I wanted to see what they had in the electronic section. There was some things I wanted but were too big to take on the bus.I will be back with my son. I saw things here that her would like, plus he had a car. MEH. 2/5 STARS I love thrifts store because you could do unlimited amount of shopping and not worry about how much you are spending since it is all cheap and extra discounted. If it were 6 years ago when I used to shop here in High School, I would have given Savers a 5/5 STARS. Two main reasons by this place is just "Meh, I've experienced better" is the increase in prices and the decrease in selection. Several years ago, I would walk into Savers and there would be a bunch of members only jackets to choose from and they were marked $7.99. Now days I barely see one and if I do they are priced well over $20. You could buy a brad new one that is on sale at Waikele for $30. Also, I feel like the amount of shoe selection for men has dramatically decreased as well as the variety of men's clothes. I have the hardest time find anything worth the price. I also noticed that on the special "color" tag days that are an extra 50% off, there are barely any of them on the racks. There used to be several here and now I can't even find them. I like finding inexpensive items for DIY crafty projects. I've noticed the prices at Savers are ridiculously EXPENSIVE! It's just not worth it anymore. You can find the same items at Ross, Walmart or TJ Max for CHEAPER and they are NEW! How dare Savers take FREE donations and turn around and sell them at retail prices. It's sad that they do that. I would love to say that this is my favorite thrift store but it's not. It shouldn't even be called a thrift store because the prices are ridiculous, especially for USED clothes / items. It's very obvious that they price their clothes based on brand. I recently purchased a basic Forever21 blouse for $10.00...really? Everything is overpriced for a thrift store. The employee's are nice but it seems like only one type of ethnicity works there. Why? On a lighter note I am extremely glad they don't hold your packages at the door anymore. +1 star because it's a private parking lot and you'll always find parking +1 star because it's shiny and clean. This is our go to place for donations. They accept virtually anything except maybe monitor screens and large appliances. I love that they have a parking zone right in front of the store specifically for people dropping off items to donate. And when a greeter sees us parked, they will usually come out with a container for us to put our things in. It's a very quick process. After donating, they will give a paper for you to list down the items that you donated, for tax purposes. I fill this out at home. You also get a coupon that says you have some $ off if you purchase over a certain amount at Savers. Besides this, I also like the selections of clothing that they have. I found a ton of stuff that I still wear today - slacks, tops, jackets. I actually put together a costume one year using Savers clothing. Some of the clothes are priced a little higher than normal though which I don't understand as it is a thrift store. I like to give reason that it is a brand name, thus the pricier amount. They also have other things as well like books, toys, costumes, shoes and the likes for sale. There is ample parking BUT you might need to walk a little more. I noticed that the parking stalls closest to Savers are always taken. Parking is free of course :) read more

I bus here so can't speak to vehicle security or anything. When my friend drives me there though there seems to be adequate parking. I think it's a pretty good community except sketchier at night and the bus stops in the neighborhood can get a little weird. The thrift store is open later and earlier than most so you get a good pick of when to go. In the daytime though the bus ride has some good stops along the way: Costco for lunch, Thanh's in Chinatown for cheap boba tea as well as two McDonalds along the way. As a shopping plaza there's some good shops (Foodland, some fast food chains and Korean bbq) to offer, although I never go to them. The one thing that bugs me is the lack of bathroom facilities except for at Burger King, where I think you may need a key (it's a recent thing). So plan on holding your liquids. If you're looking for WiFi I haven't really found a consistent spot except for right outside the store by the benches. Burger King WiFi isn't the best. I've been going here for the past couple years and I've had consistently good experiences with the staff. The cashiers are firm and efficient without being stern or rushing, and they seem to joke around with customers and each other at times too. The dressing room people are pretty easygoing too. They allow for more than the limit often, and seem trusting. They're my favorite dressing room people actually. The rest of the staff seem also very efficient and upbeat and don't seem a little bit miserable or guarded like some thrift store workers do. Savers doesn't feel like a thrift store for the most part--the air is overall cleaner and the light is brighter and the space is vaster. This kind of means the price is higher too but they have good stuff. I go to thrift stores a lot and volunteer some and I would say the prices vary. Some good (I bought a nice material, non-brand shirt for $5 today), some really high (a very worn plain men's T-shirt, $7.99?), some like understandable but extreme in context ($19.99 for name brand used exercise pants, Zella brand?), and others like standard discount store price ($13.99 for new Calvin Klein shirt). Being a thrift store volunteer I sort of know prices might be inflated for sale days, and everything eventually moves. I find jewelry to be reasonably priced here but like other thrift stores, they are final sale. I have for the most part bought costume jewelry for $2-$6, although of course there are your $25-$45 ones in the case. Savers has a good amount of half off days throughout the year, but you should know the discount doesn't apply to jewelry or to housewares or to like, most other stuff besides clothing and shoes. On those days lines can get really long, like all the way around the perimeter of the store, but they do have a higher amount of cashiers than most other thrift stores, like around six vs one or two. Savers is a much bigger but much better staffed thrift store than most. Monday is also a 20% off day for most if you sign up for the Savers card which is free and easy. There are sale days for seniors and military and the like. In addition to more cashiers there are more dressing rooms too, and they're nicely lit as well, with benches too for the occasional sit down. In terms of sitting areas in the store there's not many at all, except the benches by the dressing rooms and one bench trying on shoes. The rest is outside. In this thrift store you are able to check in your bags at the counter up front if you don't want to hold anything while shopping. You get a number which you keep the double of. Small pull or carry carts are available and also the large grocery shopping cart too. Both very handy and the wheels are good. Clothing is separated by size which is a luxury for thrift stores, and the increments are smaller. So if you're searching for size 12 pants you can go to the size 12-14 pants section rather than just "large" or "extra large." If you really want to dive into a thrift store this is a good place to do it, overall. You can bring cash or card. They no longer accept checks. Try going for a sale day or plan to drop anywhere between $20 and $60 for four to eight moderately priced, non-sale items. Thrift stores that use credit card machines do have to charge tax. Also, bring your own bag, or maybe two. Also an umbrella because while there are easily accessible bus stops around there's not too many natural areas of outdoor shelter. Located in a strip mall, with a huge parking lot (a plus), such a great selection here. A local told us about this location being very good. Numerous filled racks of aloha wear (dresses- my favorite!)- I found several designer aloha wear pieces that were priced just right (everything under $12.99). No flaws (interesting statistic- on average, we wear 20% of our wardobe 80% of the time- plus lots of people still have items in their closets with the price tags still attached). Waiting for an open dressing room (there are about 5 or 6 rooms) took a while (can't take a chance though, need to try everything on, just in case). There was a child running around naked from the waist down- there's always been strange types of people shopping in thrift shops. But this what you deal with, so it's usual to deal with the unusual. It was a lot of fun- my final selections ended up being one dress and two shirts. I know that we'll probably be back. I'm a fan of the stores back home too ("the department thrift store"). So, I am familiar with the "make a donation here, get a 20% off your $10 or more purchase" coupon- another way to save even more money, folks. To date, I've found the following at these stores back home: Partylite, Pampered Chef, LeSportsac, The Sak, along with books (nothing over $2.99) and clothing (Ann Taylor, Banana Republic, Gap). I only buy items that are not damaged, stained, or faded so you wouldn't be able to tell by looking at my outfit, what I buy at these thrift shops. Shopping here is good for a few reasons: (1) easy on the wallet, (2) helps the environment (recycling), and (3) helps the community (assists several needy groups here, locally in the US), and (4) abroad- other countries (helping more people- globally). i always tell myself that i can't stay in here too long 'cause i tend to get allergy symptoms, but i always take long... and i keep forgetting to bring a mask. my mission on most trips is to find crochet/free people clothing, or stuff that feels like me. i fail half of the time, but it's okay. in the past i've walked out with a couple members only jackets in great condition for less than ten bucks, lesportsac bags (when i was somewhat into em in high school) and nice vintage jewelry for cheap. honestly, i don't like to shop here unless i get a discount of 25% or more. it just seems too expensive and i cringe when i get rung up. i don't like the idea of spending more than $50 in one shopping trip here - unless everything is half off. that's why i wait for all the 50% off days (presidents day, labor day, etc.) sounds cheap, but i just figure that i can go to a boutique and spend $$ on something that i really love. read more

Savers is a great store to find secondhand goods. The products are in good working condition and the stores have a good variety. They have monthly sale days and promotions. Are you new to Hawaii and have limited funds? Go to Savers. First, if you are a guy, hit the Aloha shirt rack just as you come in the entrance. Since you are likely job hunting, skip the tie and the button down oxford and get a name brand Aloha shirt. There is usually a good selection of Kahala, Tori Richard and Reyn Spooner shirts. Stay away from the Hilo Hatties shirts unless you want to look like a tourist. Go to the shorts section to right on the wall. You'll need more shorts here. A lot of the clothes still has tags on it or are very new donations from tourist who left them in their hotel rooms. Their loss is your gain. For women, there is a giant selection of tops and bottoms, but being a guy, I didn't spend much time there. Next go all the way to the left side of the store and pick up towels and sheets. There is always a great selection. Move up a few aisles to pick up some plates, cups, and silverware. This is about as cheap as you can find it. Just make sure you bring your own bags or you'll have to buy one from Savers. You'll be happy you can start your life here economically. read more

As far as second hand store goes, this store is relatively clean and organized. Their household items were a bit dusty and a better job could have been done to refurbish many of the items. The prices were reasonable for most of the clothing and I did not find any damaged or stained items. The higher end designer bags were in a glass case and from what I could see the prices seemed reasonable, but I did not inspect them. There is no dressing room so many people were trying on clothes over their clothes. There was a diverse mixture of shoppers and it was quite busy for a Saturday afternoon. Shoppers should be prepared that due to the to the location, there are more than a few transients hanging out in the front. Obviously this isn't the fault of the store or the unfortunate souls that are suffering from homelessness and mental illness; however for those shoppers not familiar with these situations in their community-they should have some understanding. read more

When my wife and I are in Kalihi for business, we enjoy stopping by the Kalihi Savers. Their selection is quite the same as the Waipahu location, however the Kalihi location is a little bit bigger which my wife and I enjoy since the aisles are bigger for us to push our son around in his stroller. I have to amend my previous review. I have been to this Savers many times since my original visit and bought lots of clothing. One issue I do have is the pricing of clothing. I do feel they are a tad higher priced than Goodwill or Salvation Army. However I consistently find tons of clothes here. And I mean giant duffle bag sized to take back to the mainland. I get all my black gothic clothing here in Hawaii. Things people must buy on a whim and then donate because it is inappropriate to wear on the 'aina. And thank god for that!!! read more

Alright, I have a love/hate relationship with Saver's... or thrift stores in general. PROS: -It is a hit or miss, but I have found brand named clothes BRAND NEW WITH TAGS STILL ATTACHED for a tiny fraction of retail prices! -It's fun to check out all the knick knacks. Some stuff you see really brings back memories. -Dirt cheap prices in general. -If you are into cosplay, Saver's is a great place to get parts for your outfit since you're probably gonna end up cutting it up, anyway... why pay a high price for something you're basically going to destroy? CONS: -Yes, there are occasional funky, questionable odors in the store... coming from both some merchandise and other customers. -Since it is a thrift store, you will come across the occasional moldy purse or stuff that you will see and think, "Gross. Who would want that?!" -SKETCHY AREA. Lock your car and don't leave any valuables visible! Overall, it's fun browsing Saver's. I've actually been coming here quite often lately since I've had a lot of free time. Also, since I love Minions, I literally go to Saver's looking for anything Minion related (lol). I rummage through the single toy bins for the ones from previous McDonald's Happy Meals that I wasn't able to obtain at the time. Just make sure to wash your hands right after and avoid touching your face... I sanitize my hands immediately after! And, whatever I purchase gets drenched in disinfectant. Unfortunately, crime has hit our family as well. My 86 year old grandmother's purse got stolen from Savers in Kalihi. She won't be shopping there anymore and replacing her ID's, cards, and bank account has been upsetting to say the least. Trying on pants in the fitting room and the worker unlocks the fitting room door and doesn't knock. The fitting room opens up to the whole store. There was the worker and 3 men standing outside the fitting room staring at me in my underwear the worker doesn't apologize or nothing! She holds the door open just staring at me until I slam it shut. I talked to the manager. The worker was right there and admits to not knocking and opening the door on me. The managers excuse is the worker is new and doesn't need to apologize to me because she's not trained to knock! Do not use the fitting rooms here. read more

I always donate here and browse for stuff every time, I enjoy the 50% off sales and I also go to the one in Kapolei, this is donates to a different foundation tht the kidney foundation which is the one they donate to in Kapolei, they have a Rubber Ducky race every year to sponsor that. I had no idea Savers was nationally spread across the country and Canada until I literally searched for other locations on the island. I wasn't an avid thrift store shopper until I met the better half. With a smarter way to shop, I gain more treasures. Savers is easy to find on Colburn St., across from Burger King in Kalihi. Sometimes it's easy to get discouraged in a shmorgishborg of things at a thrift store. I've learned to breathe and take things one at a time or I'll never find what I'm looking for. Walking in, an attendant is readily available to grab any donations people may drop off. You will receive a slip for tax deductions. Glass shelves containing random women's jewelry, coins, designer glasses, handbags are kept locked and located towards the entrance and exit. Ask a service staff and they'll allow you to hold them for further examination. Fitting rooms are located immediately on the right side of the store where mens clothing are ready for perusing. Towards the back on the same side are shoes and other random bags. Some days the selections are good if you search hard enough. Centrally located are overwhelming selections of women's, pants, jeans, tops, sweaters and dresses and kids clothing readily up for grabs. Kids toys are located on the very back of the store along with bedding, transitioning into home decors and appliances. I love books and I love having a mission to find things for my collection and a list to complete. Savers keeps a constant changing collection of children's, junior, adult books and DVD's. If you have ample time, you will find lots of great things. I've been lucky to find rare items and I've returned several times at a different day to see if anymore would turn out. So far I've been successful. Frequency is key to finding some great things you never know you'll find at a thrift store. Signing up to their email list will keep you in touch with their special promotions. If you're a frequent shopper don't forget to ask the cashier for a Savings Pass. Seasonal items can sometimes go as low as 75% off. Books can be as cheap as .99c each. Savers acquired a Super Savers Club Club for members. Sign up at the cash register to get on this perk. For every 100 points earned, a discount will go towards a future purchase. If you forget your Savers Club Card, a phone number to verify the account is just as good. Random discounts are also emailed to club members with participating locations. Their IG is well maintained for daily discounts and endless promotions as well. Among many of the thrift stores I've seen, Savers is one of my frequently visited. Staff are present throughout the store in case questions arise but not always friendly especially when there are price discrepancies. During a good day, I've spoken to a few that are helpful and will go above and beyond. Lines can be extremely long on a promotional day but goes fairly quick.
