First time here. We wanted to try something different. Atmosphere is nice. They make dumplings from scratch where you can view them through a glass. Food was edible. The BBQ dumpling was just ok I could not taste the bbq meat it tasted like over steamed not too meaty. The noodles on the soup tasted like angel hair pasta which was disappointing. The soup the beef noodle soup and the wonton noodle soup I wasn't really my favorite but it wasn't bad it's just not the one that I'm used to so it was just okay for me. Soup dumplings was good the pork siomai I didn't like as much. My actual favorite this was the shrimp fried rice I could eat it all day by itself without a dish with it. The two waiters seemed indifferent and spent most of the 2 hours we were at the restaurant either in intense conversation behind the register with their backs to the tables or on their mobile phones. My first visit to Savory Bun, and hopefully not my last. The vibe is relaxed, festive, and the acoustic pop playlist adds to the laid back feel here. I was happy to find some good wine options and beers like Asahi and Tsingtao on the drink menu. The dumplings were fresh and generous portions. The crab rangoon was creamy and larger than other places in the area. I really enjoyed the shrimp stir fried with udon noodles, as the noodles really soaked up the tasty sauce. For dessert, the mango mochi was sweet and the perfect portion for two to share. The parking lot here is not real big, and there are other restaurants in this strip mall competing for spots, but it looks like there might be street parking nearby when the lot is filled. A little pricier compared to other spots with comparable items, but the portions here are good. I look forward to trying other dishes and dumplings here. read more

This place is a hidden gem! Daisy is the server/owner and she is so kind and friendly and service is great! The food was also delicious! We have tried many Asian places because we are Asian so we know good soup dumplings and Asian fare and this place did not disappoint! Their soup dumplings are filled with soup and so tasty. My cousin and I got the chilled cucumber salad, scallion pancake, chicken and mushroom dumplings, and pepper beef. The cucumber was exactly what the description said. It was just sliced cucumber in chili oil, nothing special. The scallion pancake was crispy, but I didn't really taste anything. The soup dumpling were good. Hot and flavorful and the best dish we ordered. The pepper beef came out warm. It wasn't hot like I would expect it to be. The beef was on the chewy side. The menu will definitely appeal to mostly American tastes, most of the non-Chinese will think this is the best thing that ever happened to them. The service itself left much to be desired. It could use more work. Our server the guy brought over the wrong appetizer. He gave us scallion pancakes instead of the beef pancake roll. He fixed it after I pointed it out. Prices were slightly more expensive than the average Americanized Chinese restaurant. We ordered spicy chili oil wontons, beef pancake roll, crabmeat & pork soup bun, thumbling pan fried pork bun, and minced pork noodle. Overall it's a 3 out of 5. -spicy chili oil wontons 3 - not spicy at all. After eating at DTF quite a few times, there is no comparison. This version was mid. $9 is a bit much for this. $7-8 is better. -beef pancake roll 3.5 - I never had this before. It wasn't bad. Make sure you use the hoisin sauce with it because there is no taste without it. This is not $14 worth. It's worth at least $7. -crabmeat & pork soup bun 4.5 - I like the juice and it had a good amount of filling. However, the skin sticks to those mini foil baking cups. It'll be better if they use perforated parchment or steaming paper like at DTF so that it doesn't stick and keep all of the juices inside. -thumbling pan fried pork bun 5 - I really liked this one. The skin was crispy. It pulled apart easily. The filling inside of the pork buns were juicy. -minced pork noodle 2.5 - we mixed it up but there wasn't much taste. It was more subtle than prominent. In addition, the meat to noodle ratio was horrible. There wasn't a lot of meat in here. When they first give it to you, it looks like a lot of meat until you start mixing it. read more

It was a tasty surprise. There were only 2 servers from what I was able to see but they were very attentive and came around frequently to check on us. We walked in right around 5pm and there was only my family of 3 and another couple. Within the hour, the place packed up and got busier. The place itself is spacious and the decor is simple. I've been to this location once and it was ok. My wife did an order 2 noodle soups and a drink. One of the noodle soups was correct, however the wonton noodle soup did not come with the correct broth/soup instead we were given a spicy beef broth with chili oil. Call the restaurant who advise "they" make their wonton noodle soup with beef broth. So I asked the wonton noodle soup is spicy? She said yes. She said they could not do a refund and that we'd need to go through doordash to request and they would approve. Lady I spoke with was consistently adimant that that's how their wonton noodle soup is, yet it doesn't match any of their pictures on the menu and would noy accept any fault. Best luck to those that go here, but we will never be back due to service and quality of food. Five Spice down the road is 100x better food and service. read more

We went back to Savory Buns to see if there have been any updates, and they sure did! They fixed their soup dumplings (xiao long bao)!! They now put it in a little aluminum foil cup, so you can easily eat the soup dumpling without wasting the soup. There was plenty of soup inside and the flavor of the dumpling also significantly improved! It is still better than the restaurant recently opened in Schaumburg! We, also, tried some of their noodles this time. I got the Tan Tan noodles. The noodles itself were perfectly cooked, and the flavor of the noodles were nice. My only complaint is that the portion seems to be smaller than the Beef Noodle Soup and Lo Mein. My mom liked it and would get it next time. Their Lo Mein is still delicious!! It has that wok-fried taste that is missing in a lot of Chinese restaurants. Service has also improved. They are definitely more familiar than last time and much more attentive. Came here for lunch and had a great experience. The staff is very friendly and attentive. The food here was DELICIOUS. Everything was hot and had amazing flavor. I personally favored the crab rangoons over the veggie egg rolls but both were still really good! The Shanghai soup dumplings are pork based and went really well with their dumpling sauce that is placed at each table. The black pepper beef felt like I was eating a home cooked meal and came with a side of white rice. The veggie fried rice was also one of my personal favorites as the flavor was amazing and reminded me of rice you can get at hibachi places. If you want decent food, DO NOT COME HERE!!! Im not a picky eater but the food here is just horrible. Soup dumllings are served in little aluminum ramekins which made me wonder why as ive never had them served in such a way until i took a bite, meat tasted really old and very tough so my only theory is that they werent made fresh and are old. You cant even pull dumpling off ramekin without the wonton ripping. Ordered shumai as well and those were the weirdest shumais ive ever tried. The stuffing was just paste that had flavor, no real meat. Lastly had the beef noodle soup that reviewers were raving about and no lie, packaged noodle soup is way better. It was so bad i couldnt tell if it was asian, hispanic or indian inspired as there was a very strong hint/taste of cumin. Not to mention the beef in it was as tough as a cowboys leather boots. I couldnt even poke it with my fork. Just really hard to believe the 4+ star reviews that people had given this place. Save youself the trouble and dtive down a few miles to the dumlling place across Hmart. Btw the server was at least nice but offered no refunds even though we left 90% of our food untouched. This place is just so tasty. The dumplings are so flavor filled and delicious. The wonton soup makes you feel so cozy on a cold day. The portions are very generous. Their bubble teas were tasty too and even festive for Halloween. My only problem (which isn't a problem) is living so close I can walk there. I will be frequenting often. read more
