A few weeks ago, I discovered that a branch has finally opened in Makati. At the streetside section of Glorietta 2, directly facing Landmark, it's hard to miss the place. What with a conspicuously designed name printed on its glass window and right above the entrance. Finding a seat is also not a problem as the dining area is huge and there are plenty of tables and chairs. I liked Wingstop even before I tasted their food. The reason: Their food choices are few. You'll not be overwhelmed by different options or types of food. Their menu revolves around chicken wings. Since their Makati branch is fairly new, I imagined that customers would take a long time to decide what to order. But it didn't take long for the people ahead of me to finish their transactions at the counter. It could be that everyone had already tried Wingstop and knew what to eat or it could be that 7:00pm is not a good time to eat wings (are you kidding me?). Since I was on my way home, I decided to have my orders in a takeaway bag. I simply wanted to sample their wings so I got a 7-piece order of wings with two flavors - Garlic Parmesan and Louisiana Rub. Both taste great but I liked the Louisiana Rub better because of its sweet and mild spicy flavor.

I consider Buffalo wings to be one of my favorite foods, so when someone declares this place to be one of the best wings in town, I had to find out for myself. Frankie's set-up is like the typical wings diner: homey and pleasantly cluttered. I had the garlic parmesan as recommended by the waiter, and the Frankie's Classic Buffalo. As it was the one flavor that took the restaurant's name as its title, the Frankie's classic was definitely the better order of the two. Everything I've been hearing about the place was right; this might be the best Buffalo wings place in the city! The Frankie's classic is a masterpiece, I don't know how many kinds of Buffalo wings I've tried in my life, but this time I think I've found the perfect original no frills wings.

Going further, some places would inevitably prepare the dish better than most. To me, this is Frankie's New York Buffalo Wings. I usually head to Frankie's after a night run. This could get as late as midnight. The place is open until 2 am, and by this time the horrible parking situation at the City Golf Compound would already be more manageable. (Of course, provided it's a not a weekend.) I always get the Classic Buffalo (spicy) with blue cheese dip, and ask for more blue cheese dips. (They charge extra). I like the chicken because of the way the skin has been cooked to a crisp, all the while keeping the meat rather tender; I think it's breaded. The sauce is spicy yet with just the right bite, meaning there is a dimension to the flavor and not just plain crazy-fiery. Like, I can still taste the butter and the vinegar all coming nicely together with the one-two punch of the hot sauce. Oh-yeah! The best part is you don't even have to worry about getting your hands dirty because they give away disposable gloves. To be honest, I don't really use it since I am used to working with utensils in dissecting my chicken, but I just think it's rather thoughtful of them. As my personal motto goes: it's the useless stuff that builds character.

I remember my first time. I took a bite, slowly.. savouring the warm deep fried goodness of batter coated oreo cookies and the cool ecstasy provided by the creamy vanilla ice cream. Then... it hit me. I was in love. Oh gosh! The presentation looked glorious. Three round, and what it looked to me at that time, puffy pancakes, topped with ice cream with sprinkles and cinnamon on it, like snow on a Christmas day. And that's not the only thing I love here at Flaming Wings. It's called the Flaming Wings for a reason. Their chicken wings, two thumbs up! I prefer their chicken tenders though. Flavour wise, there's no difference between the two. It's just the bones. And me like it when I could just pop it straight ahead into my mouth. Delish!

Create your own rice meal by choosing the sauce for your spicy chicken (you can even opt for non-spicy or ultra spicy!), and then the dip to go with that. Over the years, I've tried a lot of different combinations which worked well for my tastes. In fact, almost everything worked! My favorite sauce-dip combination would be Smokey BBQ and Bleu Cheese. But I usually pair Smokey BBQ sauce to Wasabi Mayo and get just as good as the former with my rice. And to wrap up the Flaming Wings experience, the fried Oreo with Ice cream is something that you shouldn't miss!

If you're tired of the same-old 1-piece or 2-piece chicken, why not get yourself a 4-piece meal?…read more I am a big fan of Chicken Chicken's food. It's this small karinderia-looking place along Estrada Street, a block away from Benilde Hotel. If you see the Santisima Trinidad Church, you've gone too far. This small place hasn't changed a bit since I was in college--it still has the monoblock chairs, the big wide open window which will make you feel like someone would serenade you while you're eating (that's true though during Christmas), and of course, their food. Chicken Chicken doesn't give you a lot of options on their menu but they sure make up for it for with the quality and quantity of each serving. Believe it or not, they serve 4 pieces of chicken for every order. That'll already last you until dinner! Aside from the chicken, another bestseller is their Liempo. Don't forget to dip it in their signature sauce! For all meals, you can choose to have plain rice or order the garlic rice which I love. Last tip: the owner manages the restaurant herself. She may get cranky at times so bring a lot of patience. I promise you, the food will totally make up for it!

Sounds like the recipe for an adventure, yeah? Exactly what I thought, so I hitched up my pants and ventured so far from the safety of DLSU's Taft Avenue, I almost cried. The restaurant itself blends so well with its residential surroundings that I kept passing it without realizing it was there. After a few instances of taking out my phone, pretending I got a text while I inconspicuously turn around, I found Chicken Chicken and its owner who is always a wee bit short-tempered. It's not her fault, there are people constantly streaming into the place. It's her against about a thousand people every day -- even Ghandi would be like SHUT UP I KNOW YOUR ORDER'S COMING WAIT. The name 'Chicken Chicken' should be an indication that their flagship meal consists of two large as heck pieces of chicken and their signature dipping sauce. Be prepared to shell out extra for two (or seven) more cups of rice if you're gonna enjoy this fully, but since the meal itself is less than a hundred pesos, it shouldn't be a problem.

There's Barn's…read moreextremely sulit, spicy wings, there's Flaming Wings' signature, well, flaming wings, there's Exile on Main Street's affordable, multi-flavored wings, and then there's Wingstop. The first thing to take note of is that Wingstop is probably the most expensive. It's quite a bit more expensive than its competitors, however, I think that it makes up for it in the sheer variety of flavors that they have. The second thing is that you HAVE to eat with your hands, lest you suffer through the pain of fiddly utensils. That's why I wholeheartedly recommend that you opt to just dig into it. They offer gloves, but I say just eat it straight on. It makes the eating experience so much better. One thing that surprises me is how much I turned out to like the Parmasean flavor. I like my wings with either salt and pepper or with a hefty drizzling of barbecue sauce. That's why when we had a platter of different flavored wings, I sort of avoided the parmasean in favor of the barbcue flavored and the spicy buffalo flavored wings. However, the parmasean had this really nice texture that makes the wings really crispy, and the sharp taste of the cheese compliments the mild spiciness of the wings really well. Wingstop gets a thumbs up for me. It's not exactly the most worth it, but the taste factor more than makes up for it.

I went there with my not-so-little sister and some friends. I think the place looks good--very clean, and has these really quirky wall decors. I love how there are varieties when it comes to their seating arrangements--there are booths, bars and the regular ones. Don't judge me; I have always loved how restaurants can play up their interiors through simple means. One thing to note when it comes to their food is that it is quite expensive. 235php for a 5-piece meal is a pretty steep price in Taft Avenue already. I'm just glad that the wings did not disappoint! It's cooked just right, not too crispy and not too soggy. I'm not too happy with the coleslaw though, I would choose KFC's coleslaw anytime over theirs. But still, good job on the chicken!
