The Canine Country Retreat

I would like to strongly refute the previous review. The Canine Country Retreat provides a loving…read moreand stimulating environment for dogs in day care or 'holiday' stays. Fiona herself is a delight - someone who is utterly committed to the welfare of the dogs in her care. My own rescue Jack Russell who is a rather nervous and fearful soul, cannot wait to get there and clearly has a great time in exploring the huge garden, going for walks and relaxing in the home comforts Fiona provides. I cannot speak too highly of this establishment and the owner.

The owner is a trained dog carer and adores the animals that stay in her home. She'll do everything she can to keep you and your dog happy whilst apart; including email updates, texts or calls. Only 2/3 dogs are taken in at any one time. This service bares no similarity to a kennel - it's a true home from home. Prices are fantastic and the service exceptional. Just take your dog's bed, food and any special requests. There's outside space and the dogs are walked in the morning and evening too. Really, don't hesitate.

During the initial 2 weeks were were introducing Sophia to a home environment Alex was emailing with advice in regards to sleeping and separation anxiety which was really helpful and exceeded expectation. As soon as I met both Alex and David I felt at ease, her first walk within a group went well and so began our 1.5 year relationship. I can honestly say that Alex and David were as much Sophia's family as we are, they really cared for her and we spoke weekly in regards to her health as she had multiple diets whilst awaiting a diagnosis and various limping injuries. Alex and David are very accommodating, they would often do evening feeds and late night walks when we needed and also at short notice when I needed to stay late at work. They take photos when out with the dogs which you log on to see, we always loved seeing these. We moved to Australia recently with work and so Sophia's walks with her friends came to an end but we are still very much in touch with them and we now send them photos of Sophia. I recommend them without hesitation, genuinely caring, dependable and trustworthy.

The staff are very helpful and friendly - and you get the sense that they really like looking after the dogs (and cats). There are a few long-term boarders there and many returning dogs. Also, it can be very busy during holiday season so worth booking the time in advance. On an even more positive note - Charlie always comes back full of beans, tail wagging and smelling extremely clean, with gleaming fur. All you dog owners will appreciate how nice it is to have a good smelling pooch (at least for a little while).

When they called to say he was ready we were amazed he had been no bother at all, he seemed very happy about the whole affair! Not only that, but he had been groomed immaculately with a classic Yorkie cut. We feel very confident leaving our dog in their safe hands. Thoroughly recommended and we rebooked the same day!

This is a great place to get a rescued greyhound. They also…read moredo boarding for greyhounds only. Most of the greyhounds are ex-racers who are injured in a race (usually healed well, but just cant race anymore) or too old. Most are usually between 3 and 6 years old. They do sometimes get younger ones if they are injured or it is discovered they are not good enough to race. Before these sort of places popped up, alot of these dogs were put down. There is nothing wrong with them, they just are useful to the owners anymore. A greyhound is a lovely pet. Despite what you may think, they don't need alot of walking. (Approx. two 20mins walks - obviously they will do more, but do get tired!). Our dog spends most of the day asleep. Clarks Farm match a dog to your family as best as they can, they do have cat friendly dogs sometimes too. The people there are lovely. Alot of people donate their time there, to walk dogs etc. and there is generally a lovely atmosphere.
