Although I have been to this place before back in March of 2020 and was pleasantly surprised, our experience on Father's Day was absolutely horrible. I made a reservation at my husbands request. The reservation was for 6 -1/2 people (my granddaughter who is 11 months) at 5pm. I asked for a table upstairs and when I arrived they tried to sit us in the bar area. I informed the woman who was at the front I had asked for a table upstairs and her exact words to me were "ok bye" and she handed me off to a young gentleman (Harrison). That was the 1st mistake she made. He brought us upstairs and the room was very warm. We assumed it was because they hadn't turned the AC on but when we looked it was on 62. We opted to stay up there because by that time they had given away the table that they were trying to offer us. I am not exaggerating when I say we were left upstairs for over 40 minutes before he came back to ask if we wanted drinks or appetizers. Not his fault because it appeared this woman was too busy yapping it up with some older man who was at the bar and the younger woman was just there. Harrison was doing the doordash orders, and everything else. I asked if someone was going to come up soon and this woman with reddish hair with attitude said "umm, yeah". 2nd mistake she made. I went back upstairs and our waiter came back up about 10 minutes later. He took our orders and was left to manage us alone. Overall I think he did the best he could, but there is absolutely NO REASON AT ALL it should have taken 2-1/2 hours for us to order/eat. We didn't order anything complicated, but it seems like everyone downstairs was being tended to while we were just left upstairs in the heat. Having to have my son go downstairs and ask for the check and food containers, is also ridiculous -3rd mistake!! Again, Harrison was great and we do not blame him at all, but this young gentleman should have been given help from the beginning instead of having him do every damn thing. Extremely disappointed and am pretty sure the owners of this place have no idea what their manager does and they seriously need to re-think who they have greeting and TRAIN them properly. She is lucky I didn't lose it on her with the way she responded to me when I asked if someone was going to come up soon. She is absolutely, HORRIBLE. I came here back on March 1. So first the place is nice and it is pretty big. Second we were celebrating my sister's birthday and the waitress was very nice. We ordered a lot of different things so we tasted a lot. We had appetizers and they were good. I ordered something similar to chicken Parmesan which was good. The portions are quite large so you can share or have leftovers. I didn't order a drink. My family liked their food and yes I would go back. We have been coming to Scalia since the first day it opened. It used to be good, but lately has gone downhill significantly. On our last visit for brunch, we ordered chicken and waffles and hamburger with egg. Unfortunately, we had to send both items back. It was obvious that Chicken cutlets were microwaved as the breading popped, separated and meat was rubbery. How can the Italian place mess that staple of a food? For brunch burger, they missed three ingredients, so it basically was an overcooked burger with egg. The home potatoes that came with it also were precooked previously maybe a few good days prior as they were dark in color and spoiled. Terrible experience. The place was mostly empty on Sunday. In general the place is nice and the food was good, but there were many fruit flies in the dining area and the service we received was curt and not welcoming. Another visit - another good time at Scalia! Drinks are on point, they make a delicious Elderflower martini, they even freeze a fresh flower inside a ball of ice. We ordered takeout since we're from out of town. My wife got clams and I got the Seefood Fra Diavolo. When we got in, the children settled and ready to eat, the food was still super hot and the seafood was PERFECTLY cooked. Shrimp were tender and not over cooked, the clams were expertly cleaned, not a grain of sand and again perfectly cooked. My son, he got the meatball. We don't order out meatballs because all meatballs pail in comparison to my mother's recipe which I make for them. But let me tell you, these meatballs were amazing. My boyfriend and I had the best restaurant experience in a long time and lucky us it was "restaurant week" where we were provided a fixed price 3-course menu, and because we already knew Scalia's would be a hit we came with our appetite. We always love the vibe and our waitress was above and beyond kind, there was a drink that didn't meet mine or Jays pallet so we unfortunately had to replace it with a house Riesling( which has to be at least a 10%). The short rib bolognaise caught my eye from the moment we walked and saw specials wall, but I knew Jay would've went for that, so I went for something different the squid ink pasta. To start we got a ceasar salad and the poached pear salad both were absolutely delightful. The bread that they put out on the table was really good. I gotten the penna al vodka with chicken and shrimp. You can barely taste any of the seasoning for the pasta , and my food came out luke warm to cold which I wasn't happy about and the pasta was semi hard / chewy not my favorite. What a hidden gem in Monroe! Came here with a group of friends and they did not disappoint! We had the calamari and burrata as appetizers and they were both delicious. I would highly recommend the spring pizza (off their special menu). It was piled high with prosciutto, arugula, and spring peas.
