There's 4 access total, this one on S. Maple is the closest to the water. However, parking lot is small & in the summer, I run into several vans parked there were working on AC. Looks like HVAC companies taking over the parking lot for work, one dude working out of his van was shirtless with full bear belly on display. I felt uncomfortable & left quickly. There's no park bench or anything like that along the river. The West entrance is the worst, smallest lot only fits 3 cars, long walking path to the river that's super narrow, some times only a foot wide & feels creepy, I'd avoid. The east entrance is very roomy, easily park 10 cars there with walking path 12 feet wide. However, it's very far to the river, at least half a mile walk. The 4th entrance is on Bayleys, I couldn't even find the parking lot, lol, nothing there. read more

A nice little secluded riverside scenic park. There are three trails, two of which are pretty overgrown once you get into the summer season. One follows along the river, one crosses the river into the woods, and the third goes up a small hill. They're all three quiet and surrounded by greenery and a pleasant, although not particularly long, walk. There's also parking for a few cars at the end of the road leading up to the trails. read more

Such a beautiful little park on the Scantic River with all kinds of outdoor amenities swimming, picnicking, hiking and some of the most beautiful river side scenery around. We came out here for a family hike, a little something the boys and I like to do on the weekends. It was a little hard to find using Google maps, but we eventually found it, accidentally, I might add. Apparently it's a great hike for dogs. We have a little frenchie, Vivian, who loves to get her walk on! There was a trail map posted at the entrance of the hike, super helpful I might add. There were also markings throughout the trails, to keep you on the right path. There was a dog off its leash that nipped at my frenchie, really PISSED me off. The owners were checking out what was in the water off the path we were on, they never came to see what their dog was barking at, nor did they apologize, they let it chase my dog! Here's a not: if your dog is aggressive, maybe it shouldn't be off its leash. Some people are just horrible! Totally off subject, my bad. The hike was great. Our little four year-old really enjoyed it. We took the path with the yellow diamonds. There was a portion of the hike where we had to scale up a hill that had a rope to assist with your climbing. My son was able to do that with very little assistant, he thought it was really neat! The view is just amazing out here, I can see why my neighbor brings the dogs every Sunday morning. I would totally come again, its great for kids and dogs!!! read more

Interesting park. There are several entrances with small parking areas. I went to two entrances and it was like visiting two different parks. Trails are pretty narrow, so dress for walking through some brush (I was a little concerns about ticks and the like). I visited on a weekday and although I saw cars parked, I didn't run into another person. One area of the park was ripe with animal sounds - and one in particular made me turn around and head back to the car! Bear maybe... The entrance near the somers line on Rt 190 had a ton of white, fragrant flowers that made the entire area smell awesome. read more

I came here with a friend after eating delicious ice cream at the collins creamery. We walked along the trail on the outskirts of the riverbank and it seemed like a nice place to enjoy nature. It did feel a little small. I think it would be a nice place to so swimming or take a kayak down some rapids. Overall, it seemed like a pleasant park with easy access. read more

An ancient and mysterious place, the Scantic River is said to be a source of archaic power. There have been rumors that deep within the forests that surround the raging river, may be found the ruins of a civilization from aeons ago. If you truly are worthy, seek out the lost valley of the Hazardsrift and enter the Great Temple of Friecartel for prayer. But beware, for it has been told that he who disturbs the items of power housed within shall be cursed forever more. All in all, the Scantic is a nice park with lots of hiking trails, picnic areas, and a clean river for swimming. I encourage anyone who will treat the park well to visit. Even bring your dog! Dogs love hikes. Also there's seriously a hidden temple out there somewhere. See if you can find it some time. read more

On our first visit, we went to the west entrance on 190 and were underwhelmed. It had the feel of an abondoned lot. No sign to welcome you. The trail led to what we were searching for though- a bench to eat lunch by the river. That was certainly nice. I was surprised by the amount of erosion allowed. There are steep paths that lead straight to the river. Next time we'll try the entrance to the east. read more
