This men's clothing store has a lot of great choices, but the purchasing process for tourists is pretty bad. Frankly it was one of the worst I've experienced.
First, they are in a busy shopping district and do not take credit cards. This is a major inconvenience, especially for travellers visiting the area who may not be carrying around that much cash.
Second, the pricing seems arbitrary and the help seemed to have odd answered to questions. The sales woman told me that the shoes I wanted were discontinued and the manufacturer had gone out of business. If that's true, why are they still charging full price for them?
She also said they are not made in Italy but the stamp in the shoes clearly says they were.
Worst of all, they do not have VAT forms so international travelers are unable to recover the 20% VAT on all goods. When I asked for the form after I had paid for my shoes, they told me that if I had informed them I needed the tax refund, I should have done so before I paid for the shoes and they would've given it to me, but since I had already paid for the shoes they would not refund the tax.
I asked if they could simply enter the shoes as a refund, and re-ring them to offset the VAT, and of course, predictably, they refused. They threw in a pair of cheap socks to make me feel better, which had me wondering how in the world do they do accounting in this store if they just give things away and are able to give VAT exemptions without paperwork?
Long story made short: unless they have something you absolutely positively must have, move along to another retailer. read more
