The road from Neutsch to Ober-Beerbach is a proper, albeit small road open to normal traffic. It has only one lane and whenever two cars meet, one has to wait in one of the lay-byes or on the grassy shoulder until the other one has passed a perfect test for the friendliness of the people of the region. The road from Frankenhausen to Wurzelbach is only open for agricultural traffic and the like and is part of the European long distance hiking trail E1 which leads from Denmark to the Mediteranian. This part of it is called the Hutzelstraße. The view is spectacular. One can see the Veste Otzberg in the northeast, the Neunkirchner Höhe with the highest church in the Odenwald to the southeast. To the west the Rhine Valley is visible and on a clear day one can see as far as the woody hills of the Rhineland-Palatium. Usually there is a stiff breeze blowing up here and for generations of children from the area this has been the place to test their kites. But even without such toys, the place is well worth a Sunday stroll or even a longer hike along the Hutzelstraße. And of course, this Fernwanderweg is becoming ever more popular with bikers.

Sign-posting left a bit to be desired, I didn't find any toilets or other facilities and parking was a bit tricky, maybe I hadn't found the official car park. Just a stroll to Mathildenhöhe, so do both in one visit.
