We visited Schloß Grubhof in October of 2009. It was part of a tour of lower Germany, Austria and the Czech Republic.
The property is absolutely stunning -- you are surrounded by beautiful mountains, tall evergreens and a massive grass lawn -- it's quite picturesque.
As for the hotel, the amenities are very basic -- while it's perfectly acceptable (clean, tidy), you can tell that the management believes the property speaks for itself and makes little effort to enhance your stay with resort-quality amenities (massage, spa services, room decoration/design).
Also, while the rooms are painted a soothing light color, the pink walls in the hallway are very off-putting, especially when the automatic lighting turns off. While I can appreciate the energy-efficiency of such a system, it just feels creepy to step out of your room at night with little to no lighting down the hallway and these circus pink walls reflecting off everything.
It's a shame really, because there are some paintings and a brilliant stained glass window that are a pleasure to look at.
The staff were helpful when we wanted directions to Innsbruck and thankfully spoke English well, as my German is... lacking.
I'm not sure I would insist on staying here again if I were to return to the area, but that's not to say I was dissatisfied with the experience -- i've just had better. read more
