    La Pina Grande. Tasty.

I don't ever rate WEHO bars 5/5. I actually never rate any bars 5/5--Schmitty's does everything and more to warrant this rating. Friendly and skilled bartenders? Check (Eric is great at his job and so fun to chat with). Fun ambiance? Check. Fantastic decor? Check. Tasty and strong cocktails? Check. Check. Check! Here is a list of the specialty cocktails: The Head Hunter: Malibu Rum, Plantation Rum, Kraken Rum, pineapple juice, orgeat, and lime. The strongest drink on the menu and you'll be making your confessions to friends and strangers alike in no-time. The sweetness masks the potency of this drink. Lightweights, beware! La Pina Grande: Mezcal, grenadine, pineapple juice, lime juice, and bitters. Not the strongest drink on the menu, but a fruity, tasty cocktail nonetheless. Slip and Fall: I love passion fruit beverages, alcoholic or not--this one hits the spot. Tequila, passion fruit juice, lime, and a tajin rim. Fruity and surprisingly strong, the name is perhaps a little on-the-nose after having two-in-a-row. Aye Muchaco: Aye muchaco, indeed--tequila, watermelon, lime, agave, and a tajin rim...this fruity drink is refreshing yet gives you the liquid courage of the most seasoned barfly. The Schmitty's Margarita: bars either nail or miss margarita recipes; Margarita lovers, gather around, Schmitty's masters their art form with this drink. There you have it, my review of Schmitty's; one of the newer additions to our beloved WEHO strip. Stop by for a few cocktails, but make sure to have a designated driver in your friend's group--these delicious cocktails will sneak up on you!

I have been coming for a few months to Mizz Tiffany's Musical Bingo (used to be Trivia) on Monday nights. My friends and I LOOOVE Mizz Tiffany!! She is very funny and we always have a lot of fun with her. We also love the cocktails which are all very tropical-esque. And there really is a happy, friendly neighborhood vibe at this bar every time we are here (like sometimes they will just bring around free lemon drop shots for everybody). That being said, I am here on Mondays when things aren't too crazy (I haven't been on a Saturday or Sunday so I don't know what it's like then). Anyways, I can definitely recommend it for a weeknight (and I think they have karaoke and stuff like that on Tuesdays and Wednesdays so check their schedule).

As anyone in WeHo with a pulse knows, there are quite a few bars to choose from to wet one's whistle on the percolating stretch of Santa Monica Boulevard between Robertson and La Cienega Boulevards. Jamie W. and I were strolling the rowdy street on Pride weekend dodging people pouring in and out of these establishments with great regularity. Heading eastward, we decided to stop at the last gay watering hole on the left. We didn't realize Schmitty's just opened in November because the bar already felt like a comfortable gathering spot rather than a standard pick-up joint. It had more of a Cheers-like Irish pub vibe except there was no Coach, no Woody. Instead, there were a couple of minimally clad bartenders who were no strangers to the gym. Now just because they had bodies like Greek gods didn't mean they couldn't mix a cocktail. We had a couple of Happy Hour specials, the $10 Mai Tai, and they had a welcome kick along with the right sweetness (photo: https://bit.ly/430JXp9). Most of the patrons hung out in the patio section, a tempting idea except you sacrifice a prime view of the bartenders shaking not just their cocktail shakers. I think we had the vapors. COCKTAILS - 4 stars...better than you'd expect from near-naked eye candy AMBIANCE - 4 stars...surprisingly not clubby, more chummy and familiar SERVICE - 4.5 stars...gee, the bartenders were friendly...am I blushing? TOTAL - 4 stars... a nice, social addition to the block RELATED - Exploring LA? Here's a collection of places I've visited and reviewed: http://bit.ly/2TWT63v

My friend, Jarod, introduced me to Schmitty's for the first time on Wednesday night, 4/24, and I loved it! It was far enough away from all the other clubs and bars in WeHo, so it had a more intimate feel to it. I enjoyed the ambiance of the place and the over-all layout. It was decorated nicely and had a cozy feeling to it. Plus, the bartender that night was very nice and super cute, and he made my Midori Sour perfectly! And that evening was piano bar night. A wonderful gal was "tickling the ivories" and singing, along with many others. Mostly musical numbers, for which I loved. It was a great experience and I would definitely come back again. Thanks, Jarod, I'm happy you recommended this place! :)

It's getting there, hopefully. $25 for a whiskey n soda when the glass is sticky isn't a good start. Decor is nice. Bar could use a good wood makeover. Hot bartenders won't guarantee a regular clientele at those prices. Happy hour is good. Looking forward to new wine choices.

Anyway, we had time for a round before the show. The big black door did not give us an indication of what was inside, but the 1970's art deco font of the bar name did. Inside it felt more like a Studio 54-era lounge with a big rectangular bar in the middle. However, the owners managed to avert tackiness and provide comfy plushness.
