Authentic...Excellent food!! If you want to feel like you are in Germany eating local cuisine, this is the place for you! We had the pork schnitzel with the Jager sauce (mushroom gravy) which was FANTASTIC, accompanied by a sweet sauerkraut, delicious red cabbage and homemade, vinegar based warm potato salad....yum!!! All the food is prepared by a German trained chef! They have a pretty good selection of carefully chosen , authentic great beers, as you would expect. You will be surrounded by authentic decor and traditional music. This quaint little restaurant's atmosphere really made me feel like I was back in Germany. Dining at this restaurant is one of the highlights of our Month long vacation. The food is consistently excellent, the quantity was plentiful and waitstaff professional and friendly. we had chicken schnitzel w/ the mushroom cream sauce, which is to die for. I've seen other reviewers here mention the portion sizes are small. I disagree! I got plenty of food that was just ok. The meat was cooked to perfection, but the side dishes were uneventful. The atmosphere is fun and kitschy and we were welcomed at the door - always a nice touch. read more

Overall, this restaurant felt incredibly authentic and the food was good. It is a very small restaurant- I counted 12 tables- so a reservation would likely be ideal on a busy night. Our server was great and attentive to allergies. She was able to suggest alternatives when needed. The food itself was outstanding. We started with the pretzels and beer cheese dip. While the pretzels were great, the dip tasted a bit closer to nacho cheese dip with a bit of beer flavor at the end. Not bad, just not what we expected. The cucumber salad was to die for! The hanchenscnitzel mi citron was amazing. Each schnitzel comes with two sides and I chose the spatzel (good tasting but I prefer larger spatzel noodles) and cucumber salad that was mentioned above. The portions were large and well worth the price. We ordered a piece of the Black Forest cake to go, and that might be the one piece of the puzzle they could improve upon. It was good, taste wise, but the texture was dry. Overall this was a win in our book and we will likely be back to try some of the other dishes!! read more

Run...don't walk.. to Schnitzel Kitchen. I love German food, and this is the BEST German restaurant my husband and I have ever been to. The atmosphere was wonderful, every member of the staff was so friendly, and Heidi was SO personable, she was just great. She made you feel like you've known her forever. The musician playing live German music was so much fun, he's a born entertainer! The food... no words. Hands down the best German food we've ever had. Fantastic dinner experience overall. Lots of fun. We laughed and smiled and sang along the whole time we were and enjoyed every bite of food we had from the appetizer to the dessert. We will absolutely be back. What a find!! read more

I only wish the service was equal quality to the food. There is no excuse for a 30 min. wait to be seated after the reservation time, then another 20 min. wait before anyone comes to take an order. My wife and I live near Savannah and every time we come down its a mandatory stop. Not only is the food fantastic, but Heidi the owner makes it such a fantastic experience. The potato pancakes are to die for as well as the beer cheese. For a main course you can't beat the schnitzel but I love the sauerbraten and my wife loves the paprika chicken. Ask for any specials because you never know wise Heidi may cook and its always excellent. Heidi is an amazing hostess and there have been times where we can talk and close the place down. If you want good German home cooking then this is a must stop. I can't wait to cone back to Sarasota to see Heidi and enjoy her company and excellent cooking. read more

Delicious! I had pork schnitzel with the jager (mushroom cream sauce) topping, side or red cabbage and spatzel. Husband had pork schnitzel topped with sunny side up eggs and anchovies, sides of home fries and tomato salad. The flavors were stimulating and I wish I could get the same acidity when I make red cabbage or tomato salad! My husband has declared it his new go to birthday restaurant. Dined here tonite with wife for the first time. I had sauerbraten with red cabbage and potato salad, plus a bowl of gulasch soup and a stein of Weihenstephaner Hefeweizen. Wife had bratwurst with mashed potatoes and sauerkraut. Portions were on the small side, but everything was properly cooked and tasted good. No room for dessert. Service was friendly, efficient and attentive. Ambiance fairly authentic. Cordial female manager came out and talked with us a while. Overall a pleasant experience. I admit to the fact that I am not German, but I am a foodie and I did grow up where German food was a staple. And I must say this place just blew me away!!! The rouladen was simply perfect and my wife's schnitzel was equally delicious. At the table next to us, someone was enjoying a pork shank that looked out of this world...that's my next meal here. It was our first time there. The 1 star is for the waitress' rude attitude. Two of us ordered an appetizer potato pancake ($11.5) and the 1st Chief Specialty Entree schweichwhax ($35), which was a huge entree and we had to take a box to bring about half of the meat home after we were both super full. When the bill came, total $58, surprisingly there was a $7 "splitting the plate fee", which was not mentioned to us earlier nor shown on the menu anywhere. So we told the waitress that we were unaware of this charge. She said that was because we two shared one entree, it was how it was in "high end restaurants like this", acting like we didn't know the rule in "high end restaurants". First of all, I almost laughed when she was emphasizing "high end restaurant like this". I've been to plenty of real high end restaurants, never had unpleasant memories regarding how many entries I ordered. Secondly, the entree came in one plate with no effort of splitting to two/adding additional portion of side. If there were actually some effort done to preparing our entree into two portions, it would be better for me to understand the charge. Thirdly, it's not like we ordered unreasonably tiny amount of food. Two of us ordered appetizer and a big entree, had more than enough food and still had leftover to take home. Last but most importantly, no matter why you charged it, if it's not in the menu, you should warn the customer upfront. When she acted like that's something you should knew by default in "high end restaurant like this" as excuse the first time, it really sounds funny to me and I thought she didn't mean it. But later on she turned around and said it once again when I pointed out that we didn't care about the $7, but it would be helpful that if she told us earlier when we were making our orders. Once again, instead of accepting her mistake, she was trying to make it our fault for not knowing this as it's supposed to be a default rule in "high end restaurants like this"...... I don't know how she let herself believe this B.S. and if she really thought what she said sounded reasonable/convincing to others? The way she acted was dishonest, rude and disrespectful. Basic rule: let the customer determine if you are "high end restaurant" or not. It's a joke to act that way just trying to cover your mistake. I think the correct way should be: 1. There shouldn't be such unreasonable charge in the first place when you didn't do any effort actually splitting the plate for us! -- why two people can't order one appetizer one entree, why there has to be additional charge if not at least one entrée per person? 2. If this rule is something unique in this restaurant and there were actually efforts done to prepare one entree into two portions (cut into half, adding more side, etc) and they would like to charge extra, it is OK, but please tell us upfront when we order so it's not a surprise later. 3. if forgot to mention earlier, at least be honest to admit your mistake and consider waiving that charge of which customers were unaware. Although I still left 15% tip (normally I would go for 25%) + paid that $7 unreasonable "split plate fee", I'll not go back nor recommend this place to anyone. To be fair, all the experience was great until the bill came. I hope that the waitress' behavior doesn't represent the restaurant's attitude. Otherwise, what a shame! It is a very stupid move to focus on such a small gain ($7) but to lose new customers and good reviews. read more

After living in Germany for four years, it is wonderful to find an authentic German dining experience here in Sarasota. The hostess was outgoing and fun, and the atmosphere very much what you might expect at a neighborhood café in a German city. The Jaegerschnitzel was wonderful with full bodied mushroom sauce, the potato pancakes were yummy, and a broad selection of German beers were available. I'm used to southern German style cheese spaeztle (without sauce - just cheese melted through), but the style served here included a white béchamel sauce with cheese - creamier this way. Don't miss the desserts. The apple strudel was really nice, and the plum cake was delicious! Highly recommend having dinner here. Reservations would be a very good idea, as there is limited seating. read more

Schnitzel Kitchen is a small family-run business in unassuming plaza, but the food and the hospitality is top notch. The menu has all the traditional German dishes and that night -- a special Schweinshaxe. I had the Weinerschnitzel which was spot on along with red cabbage and potato.
