The school encourages individual identity within a community, helping each child discover who they are and how they fit into the world around them. They have a fantastic outdoor curriculum including gardening and stewardship of the common areas and excursions into the neighborhood for various projects. Music, art, theatre, martial arts, yoga, and mindfulness are all interspersed with science, math, English, history, and social studies, helping to enhance the idea of interconnectedness through all our experiences. The whole school community is extremely welcoming and encourages regular interaction between parents, administrators, and teachers to make sure everyone is working towards the best outcome for each child. I consider my family incredibly lucky to have found such a supportive and nurturing environment that focuses on long term goals and intends to prepare children to be successful global citizens who can see how and why things work together rather than simply teaching facts. I am currently a senior in high school and along with my grades, my great ACT score has given me the opportunity to attend my dream school, University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign, and I can attribute my ACT success to my experience with the Reading Tree program. I am so happy with my choice to attend the Reading Tree program. I had other friends in similar ACT prep programs with hundreds of students being taught by very few teachers. They said that they felt as if they "never got any personalized attention" and that it was a "waste of time." I found this to be the complete opposite at the Reading Tree. The teachers were warm and patient (regardless of the level of the student), and they always had an answer to my questions. The intimate environment really made me feel that my success was a primary goal to the program. Along with the books we received for homework and practice tests, we got a binder that had so many different helpful hints and tricks that I used when I took my test (and my test results confirmed...they definitely work). I felt the homework assignments to be well thought-out and relevant to what we needed to focus on. I can't say enough about how successful I feel the Reading Tree program is. From its personalized program, helpful text materials, well-educated teachers, and of course, great test results, I feel that it is beneficial to any junior or senior looking to do well on their tests; it is definitely worth it. Drove 60+ miles from Downers Grove Il. to watch my son's school play this school's baseball team,…read morewhich by the time I arrived was already in the 4th inning, to be told I had to pay 5 dollars to get in! To think that a school would charge out of state visitors 5 dollars to watch a regular season baseball game considering the game was more than half way completed is ridiculous! For 2 dollars more I've could have gotten a ticket to a White Sox game. Too bad I'm a Cubs fan. I've paid to enter high school baseball games as well as other high school sporting events but never that much and never when a game is more than half way completed. I'm sure the proceeds go to the school or some city program but come on, I could see if I had arrived at game time, then ok I'll pay 5 dollars but having the nerve to try and charge me to enter a game that only lasts 7 innings? No thanks, I caught the next couple of innings standing in the parking lot and then went to my car and waited for the game to be over. Then I drove back 41 miles to my home in Chicago. Thank you to Andrean high school I really felt welcomed at your school, I drove 100+ miles from my job in Downers Grove to your school and then back home to not even be able to sit down and enjoy the game. I hope I never have to come back to this place ever again. At least we won though.

The children who attend the school are from people who never left the neighborhood. If your child or you yourself are not from the neighborhood and do not drink the kool-aid you and your children will be treated poorly and graded poorly. The school does not encourage diversity, the staff is not diversified. The staff is comprised of mostly people from the area. Many parents are entitled police and fireman with the gangsta in a uniform mentality, which in turn the children mimic. This in turn makes the school environment hostile for children, who are learning intolerance for people different than them. Instead of being sensitive and aware of the problem, the leadership is more concerned about their hyper inflated ego and the fact responses are to conflict are threatening to you and your child's education. The best one I heard was "I am responsible for the largest school in the Archdiocese" and I personally, and I..I..I. No addressing situations that cause concern for your child. Just I..I..I. There are a few great teachers who do not deserve this review. There are others that I question their mental fitness to work with our youth. In one instance I questioned a grade for my child who loves school, and my child was torn down, made accusations against, and our family was torn down with my child. All for noticing a grading discrepancy. Don't expect anything less than South Side drama here.
