So I might be the world's biggest classical-sheet music geek that there is. Because it's my profession, for half of my life, a big percentage of my income went towards buying the music that I need for work. So whenever I travel, I visit other music stores to see what's out there that's not available in NYC. And these days, the music state of music stores in NYC are looking pretty grim... I visit this store whenever i'm in London.
Of course, this store has a good supply of Schott titles. They didn't have everything I was looking for, but can place orders for you. (Which is usually the case at music stores, and usually doesn't help me very much...) They carry music of all other publishers, however, and their inventory is large. There's also a small section of used and discounted scores, albeit most of this stuff is probably not what you're looking for...
The man on staff was helpful and I was impressed at his knowledge. Nobody in the US takes such pride in his work! As an example, I was looking for the Webern arrangement for piano quintet of the Schoenberg Chamber Symphony, a piece that is very rarely played, and he knew that he had it in stock and what it cost without consulting a computer. Impressive!
My only gripe is that they separate the contemporary music from the 'regular' classical music. It all seems rather arbitrary and confusing to me, and I don't really get that at all... read more
