We absolutely love this couch. During the buying process we were told if it was in stock (which it was supposedly) then it would only be 2 weeks. We'll it ended up being close to 8 weeks to get our couch... I bought a top-priced couch that began to pill and unravel as soon as I started using it. I complained to the sales person and the manager, but the only thing they offered was a suggestion to buy a sweater shaver to cut off the loose ends. I asked them about recovering it under the guarantee, but they refused to stand by their product. They just said that was a trait of the fabric I selected, which they did not tell me when I bought it. I will not be buying anything more from this store. read more

We went here to buy a mattress and figured we would shop local and try to always give the local business the "benefit of the doubt". I would say that the service before the sale was great and after the sale was iffy at best. There were issues with the height of the box spring which should have been found prior to the buy (both our fault and the sales person) however it was not. The big issue came after the sale. Rather than apologize and empathize with the predicament we were caught in a never ending loop of messages not returned, people blaming us, extra charges to make it right etc. etc. Further, one sales person, upon hearing our situation told us that they get "many returns" on this and what we were facing was a common problem. Given that, one wonders why they do not do more on the front end to avoid the problem. Upon finding a problem, a world class service organization would have: 1) Empathized and apologized, 2)gone out of their way to return calls, and 3) Made it right immediately. If that had been done, the extra charges would not have been so annoying. But, alas, they chose to hunker down, blame the customer and charge us. Unfortunately, my experience with staying local failed in this case. If you are looking for a "commodity" buy and they are selling something at a rock bottom price, I might go back but that would be the only reason. I would not "default" to this store. read more

I live on the Michigan side of the IN/MI state line. Lots of options for furniture buying. I specifically chose Schroeder (over Whims & Wisto support Michigan small business. I was incredibly disappointed to learn that they are charging me $75 to deliver my special order $2300 leather sofa because I'm more than 10 miles from their store. Anxious to receive my sofa but not likely to shop here next time. That being said, We were very pleased with our sales associate Kathy.l. My sofa was delivered last Friday and it is BEAUTIFUL! No charge for deliver because it took 2 1/2 months to get it. Worth the wait and I appreciate them waiving the delivery fee! read more

My family and I went into Schroeder Furniture today looking to purchase a sectional couch. We were not greeted upon entering the store, a saleswoman hurried past us without acknowledging us. After browsing the store for around 15 minutes, picking out a sectional we were interested in purchasing, and not being acknowledged by the saleswomen working we left to purchase close to $5,000 at another furniture store. Having worked previously in furniture sales I was extremely disappointed to have never been acknowledged by the three sales women working, not when we entered the store, while browsing, or upon leaving. read more

I do not recommend Schroeder Furniture. Poor customer service and no customer satisfaction. They do not make it right when they deliver damaged furniture. A few years ago, I special ordered a La-Z-Boy recliner and matching sofa from them. They are the only supposedly quality furniture store in our rural area that doesn't tack on a hefty delivery fee, so it was slightly less expensive than ordering from the South Bend La-Z-Boy store. I had tried the floor models of both pieces at Schroeders but wanted a different color fabric. When the furniture was delivered, I sat in both the chair and the sofa and checked out the recliner functions. The chair's lever was very tight and made a loud thunking noise when moved. In addition, the rocker bars made loud squeaking noises when I rocked. The floor model had not made these noises and the lever return had been perfectly smooth. So I told Schroeder's delivery ppl to please put the recliner back on the truck. It was defective and I was not going to buy a defective chair. They adamantly refused. Absolutely would NOT put the recliner back on the truck. Told me I'd have to take that up with La-Z-Boy and maybe they'd repair it. REPAIR IT??! It's brand new. I can understand furniture stores not accepting returns bec a customer changed their mind on a color or fabric or style. But DEFECTIVE products--they should never be delivered to begin with, and then to tell me I have to deal w/ the manufacturer??! As if Schroeders is not involved??! Next day I called the store and left a message. Scott Schroeder did eventually call me back. He refused to take the chair back and would only arrange to have a LaZBoy serviceman come to my house to fix it. Not impressed. The service guy came and replaced the rocker bars, which did stop the squeaking, but the lever has never worked right. He claimed it wasn't a problem--that all recliners are like that. Not so. I've owned several recliners in my lifetime, and our family has owned several that were LaZBoy, and not one lever was ever that difficult to move, nor did they make loud thunking noises. Nor did the lever on the floor model of this same chair work that way. I would never have ordered it if it had. The reclining sofa also had very jerky lever returns, though not as bad as the chair. It was designed so that you had to kick the footrest back when you wanted to sit upright. On the floor model, this required very little effort. On MY sofa, you really had to kick the footrest to get it to stick. I figured this out after having the footrest spring back w/ serious force into my Achilles tendon several times. And then the footrest broke about a year after i bought the sofa. Schroeders did not stand behind their product at all. I will pay the extra delivery fees next time but will never order from them again. read more

It took awhile for us to get help from the sales people but once we did they went over all the details in selecting a couch. Pricy but so far we love the high quality. I only wish we didnt have to wait to a whole month to get it delivered to our house (we even ordered the floor model). Free delievery was a bonus. read more

It is a big shame when you look for every reason to support good, local companies, but are unable to continue to do so. Schroeder furniture has lost touch with what it means to delight the customer and create a superior experience. We had a concern with a new dining room set we ordered and upon raising the concern to them, we got comments back like " you were seeing what you wanted to see" prior to making the decision! This is not the way a company should conduct business!!! They are more concerned with having to deal with a potential return of relatively small magnitude, vs helping us come to the right outcome and exceed our customer service expectations. I would not recommend this store to anyone who enjoys quality and good service. Once they get your money they basically laugh at you when you have an issue. Our couch which costs $2k is literally falling apart and their answer to us after they had to replace the cushion covers in just 4 months time was ,"get a sweater shaver" too bad so sad...you will not see one more dime from us and I promise to tell everyone I know the story. I went in the first week of November thinking that has to be enough time to get a new couch before Christmas. I was told of their huge sale that would save me 20 percent off and according to the sales lady wouldn't make a difference on when my couch would be available to me if I had her order it on the 14th of November so I could have the sale price. I was also told that I would have it before Christmas because they receive a shipment every 4 weeks and they just had one and it will be on the next one. I thought great and they were so nice and saved me quite a bit of money. Keep in mind this was no special order. I was told that they would call and keep me updated on my order and that I could call at anytime if I wanted to check on the order. Well, December 16th we call to check if we will get it before Christmas and was told they would call us later that day and let us know. The next day we call because no one called us back and was told that they swear they will call us back before 8. Well, the next day we call and was told they would call back in a half hour. Honestly I had kept my patience till all this so I waited till the half hour was up and called again. I was then told that I would not receive my couch by Christmas. Ok I can deal with it but I can not deal with the lack of customer service skills this place seems to have and no apology what so ever for the days of having to call them just to get this information. On top of that its a good thing we have no holiday plans because I have no clue to a round about day or week that I will have my couch by. My dad recommended me to Schroeder and he has apologized for that. They will never have my business again and any one I talk to I will discourage from shopping there also. read more

We've purchased furniture for our last 3 houses (over 15 yrs) from Schroeder and always received great service. Highly recommended furniture store for SW Michigan. The staff is friendly and knowledgeable, and some brands offered have a slew of fabric/color options. My husband took the broken handle from his Lazy Boy recliner, which was purchased at this store, into the store after he got off work to get a replacement. The girl behind the desk said he would HAVE to come back in the morning because the parts manager went home and she refused to help further. A man in coveralls came from the back and told her to at least take our name and number. So called parts manager called next morning and I had to go through whole story again. She said she would check the price and call me right back. She called back 24 hours later and said she had no idea as to cost because she needed the number from the inside bottom of the chair before she could check..... REALLY, it's a standard chair handle not a foreign car part. I don't know if they were trying to jack the price up or playing with us for their own amusement. I went on Amazon and ordered a replacement handle, standard equipment, and no code numbers were necessary. Took all of 2 minutes and cost $14. Should have done this first and saved the aggravation. We purchased a LazyBoy recliner and sofa. The sofa was bad from day one. There is no support and it sags in the middle. There is just my husband and I, not heavy use. The fabric has worn and we have to put a cover over it. We called the store initially and talked to Scott Schroeder. He refused to take the sofa back and suggested we put a piece of wood under the cushions for more support. We told him this did not work and he refused to do anything else.
