It was so slow, and the receptionists were so chatty with other hostel guests they could barely focus on my check-in and kept forgetting I gave them extra money for towel deposit. Room. I stayed in 4 bed dorm. My guest mates were so loud, it was so hard to sleep. One of them was a smoker who got up so frequent at night to smoke and open the door, making the room cold. Also my guest mates were stinky, unlucky me. But also the bed was sooo uncomfortable. The cleaning of the room appears questionable too. This is not a quiet hostel. Everyone stays up late and you can hear them talking from the lobby at night. Also this place is next to Berghain, a 24hr party rave club on the weekends, so you have a lot of people staying here to go to this club. The bathroom was actually decently clean. However, there was no hooks on the shower walls so it was hard to put your stuff anywhere. Location, 10-15 minute walk to transit, a little inconvenient. You need to rent bikes is the best way of transportation.

It felt like a completely different hostel compared to the lobby. -Up on the third floor is was very quiet at night, as long as we kept our window closed. -Nice room darkening curtains that helped us sleep in. -Friendly staff -Good beer at the bar, although I wish they had it on tap -Close to a very good metro station with multiple lines to take you anywhere you'd want to go, including Potsdam. Meh: -Our room was very small, but no smaller than hostels we've stayed in throughout Europe. (We had a double with private bathroom). -The neighborhood is extremely hipster, as is this hostel. Cons: -The room was stifling hot. A small standing fan would have made the experience 100x better. -Washers and dryers were broken and/or barely operable. -For us, we'd have probably chosen elsewhere had we known more about the neighborhood and grunge hipster vibe. We didn't have much in common with the other guests. -The location, although well connected on the metro, is not walking distance to many tourist attractions.

My car that I thought was confirmed for 19 days of rental was not available. A Mr. Goerner became very heated when trying to explain away my predicament, though I mentioned that I had been en route for the past day, and possibly missed the email from Europcar. The upshot was that he raised his voice to me, became hostile in a most unprofessional manner, I shrugged my shoulders, and left. There are other rental car companies in Berlin. I went to Avis, got a marvelous vehicle that is a pleasure to drive, and too bad for Europcar, who has lost a formerly happy customer.

I paid for a car rental in advance in order to get a preferred rate. The morning of the car rental I get the email below stating they did not have a car available for me. So they cancelled the reservation. Yet, they failed to refund my credit card. Phone calls to their customer service yielded no results. When I finally emailed nachfrafe@europcar.com, I am told I will get a refund once the car is returned. They didn't even acknowledge that the car rental transaction never took place and was cancelled by them. Poor business. Look elsewhere when you rent a car. But if you do have to rent a car from them, don't pay in advance to get a lower rate. Chances are the car will not be available and you will have to fight them to get your money back. Driving a trabant in Berlin was on my husband's "cool shit I want to do" list* so we made it happen…read moreduring our recent trip. I think this combines some of the best parts of traveling for me--a super fun activity-based experience, learning a bit more about history and local people, places, and things, and great photo/video opps. A few tips: - Sunday morning was a great time to do this because the city was just starting to wake up, which meant we got to squeeze in more mileage than if we were dealing with more commute and tourist traffic. - Book ahead and arrive a bit early to allow time to use the restroom, practice the shifting, take some photos, etc. Checking-in was quick. - Don't plan to drive if you can't drive stick or if you are unsure about using a column shift (they do have a practice station and also walk you through it in the car) - If you are a tall human, don't expect to be comfortable in the car. The staff/tour guides here are fun. Even with lighter traffic and a small group, because we were the last of the three cars, we still got stuck behind at a couple lights. Our tour guide told us up front to not worry when this happened and he was very communicative (via a one-way radio) and would clearly tell us where he and the other car in our group were waiting. He also provided great commentary and information regarding what we were seeing during our journey. We also learned more about the cars, including personal/family experiences, from our tour guide later in our trip. About mid-way through we had a 5ish minute break, parked by the East Side Gallery (Berlin Wall). This allowed us to stretch our legs, switch drivers (if desired), and take some photos of the wall and the cars. Related to that, if you choose this adventure, be ready to be featured in a lot of people's photos/videos, as it is certainly a sight to see. I'm so glad we did this in Berlin! This place is hard to miss, they have a chain link fence you can see what they have going on. Plus there was a giant ballon right next to this place screaming "come look at me". They do have some cars on the side walk for people to take pictures should they like. Unfortunately it was closed when I arrived and I was not able to visit the next day due to time restrains.

Berlin is easy to get around by bike, being flat, and with bicycles welcome on most trains. The bikes from Finding Berlin were clean, easy to ride and light. Tyres are skinny, perfect for road riding. They looked great and turned quite a few heads. Good quality locks and lights were provided, and we were happy to rent the two cycles for the whole week: an expensive proposition, given that Finding Berlin charges at least twice what other bike shops charge for hire but these aren't just any bikes. The owner, Martin, speaks excellent English and is both friendly and helpful. He'd only recently opened, and therefore hadn't started doing tours yet, but his facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/findingberlintours and website give details of what he's doing, and when. We were among his first customers and were delighted when he presented us with a small bottle of sparkling wine each, which we enjoyed in a picnic on the banks of the Spree later on. We had a couple of issues: the toe clips to hold my shoes on the pedals were annoying, so I removed them; and my saddle wasn't at the right height and angle. I bought a tool to adjust that, which Martin was happy to refund. I'd absolutely recommend Finding Berlin bike hire if you want something significantly better and more fun than the poorly maintained, heavy workhorses you'll find at most of the city's cycle hire shops.
