I like this theater. The movie theater is upstairs on the second floor. Well basically you go in from the first floor. There is an arcade at the movie theater. The movie theater is quite big. My favorite part is that there is lot's of legroom between seats. I went to watch Wonder Women and I loved the seats. They are spacious and roomy. Also the seats can recline. Very clean and nice theater. Its a new theater that's for sure compared to say the one in Eau Claire Market.

Lots of advance screeners at this theatre! The Avengers: Age of Ultron, 2 days early :)

Ugh so run down, so crowded. I can't imagine this place competitive with the newer more modern and fully functioning theatres.

This cinema is ok. Not bad, but nothing really special. I was expecting something better. Also the service was not very friendly.

Sure, the Cineplex in Eau Claire sometimes shows art house or indie flicks, but The Globe fills a niche in Calgary that I wish more theatres would cater to. The theatre is owned by Landmark, and they've outsourced some of their advertising to Cineplex, so you can actually check out a good chunk of the Cineplex Pre-Show here, which is ironic because the Cineplex location in Eau Claire doesn't even show that at their theatres. If you're on a budget, the best times to visit are during the weekends and catching a matinee (you save about $2.50 or so on admission that way), or visiting on a Tuesday as for $0.99 more than general admission ($10), you can get a popcorn/drink/candy combo. The Globe is on my list of theatres to check out every week whenever I'm in the mood for a film, because usually they've got quality stuff playing here. If you like films with a little bit more depth, give The Globe a try.

So, I went by myself to the first show and I thought it might be empty or few people may attend, but I chocked because it was crowded and I barely found a chair, also the director was there. It was a great experience that I had and sure it'll not be the last one. Pros: Independent theater Cheap tickets Great movies No ads Cons: Online booking is not available Seats are without number

Set…read morein the heart of downtown, this 100 year old historic building still conveys its original pride in its golden leaf mouldings, the original theatre ceiling and original walls. Most of the architecture has been updated and the lobby area houses the sexy and sultry Velvet Restaurant. The main theatre is a jaw dropping thing to experience, from the catwalk you see an expansive area with rolling seats that can be set up as a classic theatre formation or can be set up against all four walls with the stage in the center. The hardwood floor is rich and dark and the brick wall is an interesting urban feel which could house really unique staging. The theatre was renovated by theatre diehard loyalists and you can tell the dedication that has been put into this venue as everything is so well taken care of. There is a killer mezzanine area, with a bar that presently has been popular for wine and scotch tasting events. The only criticism I would have is because of all the historic restoration they are not so open to hosting youth events there but it is understandable considering the fine details of the architecture. All in all the place is a superb location and akin to theatre spaces I have seen in New York City and Toronto, but it's not its grandness is all right here in Calgary.

Heading to their showing of The Princess Bride tonight, pass the popcorn. ;)

Sometimes there is good reason these films don't make a regular circuit and other times it's largely an issue of censorship or that they aren't "hollywood enough" or didn't have the right connections in the biz. Considering hollywood and censorship produce such swill as Crossroads and Glitter.. it's not exactly a recipe for fine movie making so there is room for this type of event. I get quite excited when I see movies from CUFF eventually make it a bit more mainstream (festival showings are important for indie films that do go wide release) I saw God Hates America on Netflix and Tucker & Dale vs Evil actually made a few "top of" lists on rotten tomatoes a few years ago. Reviewing the movies doesn't make a lot of sense because you're already out of luck there but I'll speak a but general to give you an idea of what CUFF is about even though it will never be exactly the same again. I saw 5 this year - 1 was visually stunning, it took a lot of risk but ultimately left me saying WTF?! I ended up on the internet looking for interpretation because I felt like I was missing something (I still think it is a bit of WTF though). Another was lower budget but like some very bloody effects which combined to hysterical and gross at the same time. Another was an anthology of shorts and many of them had me in stitches watching how different filmmakers interpreted death (I'm very macabre by the way). Another was a documentary about drugs and did actually affect some of my views on the subject positively as I never really FULLY understood the war on drugs and how harmful it's been. My favorite of the festival "sightseers" was like a rom com written for macabre old me... I really hope that out gets out into the world a bit more because it's well done! A good thing about the fest is that it's licensed - woot! The bad is we sat by a group of 7 who were just wasted and misbehaving all movie - ugh! (Sorry to the staff - I believe one of them peed in the corner - jerks) The bad was the venue (the globe).... my back and hips (not as young as they once were) took 3 days to recover after the 9 or so hours I was seated there. I suggest watching the website and twitter account around Feb/March when the listing for next year start to roll out. Most come with a trailer and a general run down. You may find reviews out there from other fests (rotten tomatoes or imdb) Not all movies are my thing but I usually find a couple gems right up my alley and I'm fairly confident there are some up yours if you don't consider yourself a 100% hollywood sellout that requires $45 mill budget movies.
