Just here watch this blaring loud TV in the icy cold room where we have you waiting unnecessarily! So disrespectful of my time & abusive to my body (the freezing cold room & way too loud tv)! The video played for us was a bunch of nonsense, as we're a constitutional republic not a democracy. How do I trust the system when the system can't even get it right? This is humiliation no human should endure by any court system. So disrespectful, rude, & harsh environment! Less a confession, my vote will be not guilty simply bc of how ive been treated today. No person should suffer the system.

The "Old" Moore County Courthouse stands in the center of the traffic island at the core of…read moredowntown Carthage. It is the third to serve as the county courthouse, a three-story structure of Indiana limestone and concrete in a Renaissance Revival architecture. It was completed in 1923, designed by architect Christopher Gadsden Sayre. It does not have columns instead is a symmetrical building with somewhat limited ornamentation. Sayre's works are known for proportion and integration of classical motifs into public architecture, such as the Wiley Elementary School in Raleigh and the former John Graham High School in Warrenton. The courtroom is on the second floor and I was not able to tour it this afternoon. Moore County itself was established in 1784, carved from Cumberland County and named for Alfred Moore, a Revolutionary War veteran and U.S. Supreme Court justice. I grew up here and spent many times walking here with my Dad , especially in the winter time when we would come and feed the squirrels pecans . The grounds have several monuments such as a tall monument for the Confederate Soldiers of Marlboro County who died during the Civil War . There is also another for all Veterans of the Military , like myself . Another for Palmer's Field which is where pilots were trained for World War I . There is also a plaque on one of the original steps of the oldest courthouse . The grounds are kept nice with lots of flowers and well cut grass . Several flag poles in front and historical markers . The courthouse is still used for county records , courts , and other government offices . Walking the halls is like going back in time .

The county was created in 1749, and Mount Pleasant was selected as the county seat in 1750. In 1785, the county seat was moved to Wadesboro. This building was completed in 1913 and is the fifth to serve as the county courthouse. It is a two-story buff-colored brick and concrete structure. The front is a monumental Doric portico, with four fluted columns supporting a wide entablature and frieze. The second-story windows are recessed and arched, and a projecting cornice runs beneath the roofline, giving the building a stately, balanced appearance. It is a Classical Revival architecture and conveys order and permanence. Half of the original Confederal Soldiers monument remains with the soldier having been removed. The other inscriptions point to the Confederate cause, listing the specific regiments and companies from Anson County that served in the war. There is also a non-Civil War memorial listing names of those lost from Anson County who served in World War I, World War II, the Korean and Vietnam Wars. Two plaques next to the entrance, one listing "the negro men of Anson County who went forth at the call of their country" and the other with just "the men and women of Anson County." So there's that. The four-story construction focuses on functionality, security, and accessibility. Its west-facing façade has a huge glass wall with recessed entrances and small horizontal windows on the second level, all beneath a flat roof that overhangs the building--an intended contrast to the ornate limestone of the nearby 1923 courthouse. The building's interior is designed for both operational effectiveness and security. It has distinct circulation routes for judges, inmates, and the general public, a basement level with holding cells, utilities, and safe parking for court staff, and a sally port system for safe prisoner transportation. Superior and district courts, as well as a sizable 220-seat courtroom, are located on the higher levels, while the ground floor functions as a judicial plaza. The new courthouse has a modern ethos, including streamlined architecture, technological integration, and a focus on public service, although lacking the classical decoration of its predecessor. I much prefer the Historic to the Contemporary in this case but I do understand the need to modernize. A lot has changed in the last 100 years since! I was at the courthouse for Jury duty. I spent the entire 8 hours reading a book and listening to…read moremusic. I was welcomed to the courthouse by the extremely "friendly" security staff. They got the job done through and ensured everyone was safe going into the building. I was very disappointed that the drink machine was out of order when they had advertised online that you could purchase refreshments in the waiting area. Towards the end of the day, I did find out that you can leave the waiting area to purchase drinks and snacks from vending machines on another floor. They really should have posted a sign indicating this information on their broken vending machines. Although I did not get picked to be on a jury, I enjoyed sitting in a comfortable chair and reading my book for 8 hours. Hopefully I don't have to go back soon.

Came here to get some official copies of some documents. I will say the process of getting the…read morecopies, then going downstairs to pay, then coming back up to get the document is a bit of a nuisance. If the civil file office had a way of receiving card payments for copies, this would've been a 5 star review. Overall, decent staff. The cafe on the first floor is nice too. The guy who runs it has great customer service !

It is a three-story Classical Revival building made of rectangular tan brick. It has a clock in the tympanum of the pediment and a pedimented portico. In 1976, the inside was renovated. Unfortunately, the building was secure when I visited over the weekend. You can still walk the exterior to appreciate the structure and the various monuments on the grounds. Montgomery County was formed in 1779 from Anson County and included what is now Stanly County. It was named in honor of Richard Montgomery, an American Revolutionary War general killed in 1775 while attempting to capture Quebec City, Canada. There is recessed entrance a large vertical windows on the second and third stories. The roof line is flat. In the interior, the main courtroom is located on the third story and has a balcony on the rear side. Johnston County was formed in 1746 and Clayton was selected as the county seat with the county's first courthouse. The seat was moved to Smithfield in 1771 and the new courthouse was built here. A third courthouse was built in 1786 and then a fourth in 1843. This one is the fifth and is considered "the old courthouse" as the current one was built in the 1980s. There is a Civil War marker on the front steps - General William T Sherman used the 1771 courthouse as his headquarters on his march toward Raleigh. On April 12th 1865 Sherman received a telegram from General Ulysses S Grant informing him of General Robert E Lee's surrender at Appomattox while in Smithfield. There is also a WWI memorial with a "doughboy" holding his rifle "In memory of the illustrious dead of Johnston County who died in the Great World War 1917-1919" with a list of names.
