My friend and I enjoyed our tour of the museum which was enhanced by 2 different interpreters, one who told of the pleasant life in the office and in town and the other who worked as a weaver in the jute factory. The later demonstrated the different machines used to prepare the jute and weave it. She also turned on each machine to help demonstrate the horrific noise from the machinery she had to listen to daily. There were other rooms with interactive displays that told more about the production of jute, the tale of the rich and poor, and the greediness of the rich to move the industry to India resulting in consequences for a huge population of people in Dundee. After our tour, it was easy to spot many other old factories in town that have been turned into housing and businesses. read more
