After having ample photos and information on the items they would be moving, they decided it was too much work. We even offered them multiple days to complete the work (when we had previously agreed they would complete the job in one day), and they still got into their trucks and left, claiming it was their choice to leave even when we had paid them and they had given us their word. This company not only wasted our time and money, but caused immense stress during our move. I would not recommend this moving company to anyone, unless you want to be disappointed, stressed, and offended.

We had to go for the full spa treatment - they packed us, moved our stuff into storage, then move it out of storage and into our new home. The staff were all great from start to finish. The best part is that all the actual movers enjoyed each other and got along well. Imagine being a mover and having to carry a china hutch with your office enemy. Not at all an issue with Kato Moving! Were there a few issues with the move? Sure, but what move goes off without a hitch? One issue with Kato Moving is that they were not great at labeling boxes. Most boxes from the basement were just labeled "basement" despite there being five different rooms in the basement (two storage rooms, one mechanical room, one office, and one bedroom). If they had been better at labeling boxes we would have had an easier time knowing where a box went in the new home. The second issue has been a bit more costly. One of the movers took apart my Ikea bed for moving. Please know that Kato Moving insurance does not cover any particle board furniture. The problem came up when it was put together again at our new home. One of the side rails was jammed together too roughly. That has resulted in the side railing splitting and falling apart. Unfortunately that means I have to buy a whole new bed since Ikea doesn't sell parts. When moving our family motto has always been "Beds are the last thing on so they are the first things off!". If you have two trucks for moving have the furniture on one truck and boxes on the second. Request to have the furniture placed first. Then the boxes can easily go into the correct rooms.

Robert, Max, and Dewayne were a great crew. They arrived on time, and they hustled. We mostly used…read morethem for furniture and a few smaller items, and the cold didn't deter them. Minneapolis moving services are some of the most expensive anywhere I've experienced. I hope that simply means that MN companies pay their labor well. We paid $1365 + $180 tip (optional, but come on) for a 3-man crew at $260/hr (2-hour minimum), and we obviously also provided snacks and drinks (they declined breakfast). For comparison, in San Francisco it was $250/hr for 5 men. The rate was with both the weekday discount and winter pricing. Weekend would have been $285/hr for 3 men, and $345 for 4 men. There was no trip fee. Robert, in particular was incredible; he moved a 6 drawer dresser down a tight stairwell alone. They needed to remove the front door at one point, but did so without issue. They also were happy to use our own furniture pads and plastic wrap (leftover from a cross-country move). At one point, they had to back the huge truck through the alley on icy ground, and had no problems. Also, it was easy to provide them inventory by email, and easy to reach them by phone. Lots of moving companies were annoying to contact, which is partly why we chose this one. One a few minor issues: one piece of furniture was shedding pieces of wood. I think they were reinforcements put on by previous owners. I didn't even know they were there, and it doesn't seem to have affected the furniture. They also forgot a couple of items in the yard, including a big smoker we had to move on our own. It's partly my fault, I told them we were good to go. Also, we were made to sign a lot of paperwork, and at various points it was for things like "you confirm that nothing is broken and everything has arrived" and, like, it's weeks later and I'm still unpacking, there is no way I would have known for sure. It's fine, because so far we have had no issues, but if someone did have issues it might feel like being strong-armed via contract. The guys in the truck were just doing their jobs, so it's the process that is problematic more than anything. We would use these guys again!

Unfortunately, a stone console table, even though it was well wrapped, broke during the move. These things can happen. Where the company fell down on the job was regarding customer service. I immediately informed them of the damaged item and even sent the original invoice for its purchase to substantiate the value of the piece. After many phone calls and emails, there was never any resolution from the person in charge of residential moves. I now have a broken table top and no recourse from Schaap Moving and Storage. The cost of replacement would not be an expense to the company since I purchased insurance so I don't understand the reluctance on the part of the moving company to make this right. What a shame that a company that could have gotten a stellar review showed that it really doesn't care about its clients!
