A great city centre location with level access and a lift - the customer service is absolutely excellent. As well as helping you find out about volunteering, Volunteer Glasgow runs loads of projects themselves including supporting the Poverty Leadership Panel, Young peoples befriending services, support for older people and help for people working towards SQA qualifications and adult literacies. The offices are bright and spacious with a lovely hustle and bustle which gives a great energy and enthusiastic feel - a great vibe to engage potential volunteers! There are so many different things you can do - from social care to arts, admin and office work (the receptionists here are volunteers themselves!), computing, social media, gardening, youth work, research, catering, retail, driving and fundraising there really is something for everyone.

A friend of mine from back home's little sister was part of the National Deaf Childrens Society and…read morethey have given her family so much support and advice. They are actually truly worthwhile as a society, and one of my favourites who I run 10km for to raise money, so that they can identify deafness at a younger age and provide grants and equipment. If you don't know much about the society and would like to start fund raising for them then you could always have a look on the website or go down to the office, they are always eager to hear from people interested to help out. I would recommend it, the bunch of people here are great to work alongside and always passionate about the cause.

Shelter me be a good charity but their charity shops are the most disorganised and old fashioned…read morethat I've never seen. Clothing rails are so large and take up so much space that any more than six customers you would find it a struggle to manoeuvre around the shop. Notes Shelter is a charity for housing and the homeless in their charity shops they mostly sell clothing and a small selection of bric a brac, beware of any board games as the ones that I've bought in the past have been incomplete, games are sealed in store and there is no way of checking if they are complete. Shelter charity do other fundraising by cold calling, visiting your home uninvited and hound you in the streets constantly to sign up to a direct debit for £12 or more per month. I used to give quite regular to charity's and even had a few direct debit donations but due to several charity's cold calling by phone and harassing me in the street l find that l donate less due to this.

Great charity shop. Well stocked with lots of open space and the clothing colour coordinated. The…read morestaff are friendly, helpful and knowledgeable. There's even a small fitting room. This is probably my favourite charity shop on Byres Road and I often stop in over a lunch time to check out the new items. I really like that they also sell some things that need a little TLC and that they highlight this to you (e.g. "Hem needs repaired" or "missing button" rather than "New!"). I hate to think of those things getting wasted because they aren't quite perfect, so it's good to know that they don't get discarded.
