You'll wander through several different rooms, each time you walk through a door you'll wonder where the hell all that space came from. One giant room even has an entire sailing ship parked inside! Next time you're up in the east neuk of Fife, make an effort to stop in Anstruther and hit up the Fisheries Museum. Its entertaining and informational, and very enlightening in regards to the local seagoing culture.

In the distance even the old control tower is visible. In the museum the main attraction is the first BA Concorde G-BOAA. In addition there are plenty of civilian and military airplanes (including a Spitfire, Harrier and Tornado) as well as displays highlighting the military past. Even the cafe is great quality. Absolutely first class and deserving of increased advertising.

You can step on board a few planes and the highlight for me was seeing Concorde and getting to walk under it to really appreciate the size of the plane. One thing I really liked about the museum was that there weren't many restrictions. You could get close to the planes and nobody batted an eyelid. There's lots of flight based games for kids to play and the big kids of course. When I visited you could buy tickets for a short helicopter ride too. It's a great day out even if you're not really interested in planes. The museum has stories on the people who flew and travelled on planes as well as the history of the hangars.

You arrive via a country road to a country track at the end of which is what looks like a farmhouse and now is the entrance/giftshop. From there you descend via a staircase to come to a tunnel leading to the bunker which is full of historical equipment and information both new and from the time. A very worthwhile history lesson.

The exhibition is housed in Birnam's Arts & Conference Centre. Outside is a lovely garden with sculptures of the animals that Beatrix made famous through her books. Inside is a lovely gift shop with Beatrix Potter themed goods, and a great range of non-Potter related cards, books, gifts, toys, and trinkets... Downstairs is the exhibition area. This is relatively small compared to other exhibitions/museums, but it's appeal for us was the great range of play activities for the little ones. From drawing and colouring on blackboards and at old school desks, to playing shop, playing with puzzles, dressing up, and reading books - this was a great way to spend an afternoon with our little one. I feel this is really geared towards younger kids under 8, but was just perfect for our inquisitive 1 year old. Upstairs is the Foyer Cafe, where we enjoyed some lovely coffees. The staff here were really lovely too!

The museum is open every sunday but when you have a running day it means you can get a chance to go a wee ride on some of the vintage buses. Entry is £7 per adult and includes access to the bus rides. There were loads of really well maintained vintage buses there and it was fun to go out on them and get a wee tour of the fife countryside. Most of the staff that work there are volunteers and are happy to explain the history behind all of the vehicles. If you are into collecting models of buses,trains etc theres a big indoor space with a good variety of stalls to browse and my bf assured me that the prices were really reasonable. Lots of public toilets and a cafe and the usual burger van selling hot food etc. Whilst this is not somewhere i would go usually I actually quite enjoyed it and my bf did too.
