They didn't meet the budget: the cost estimate the designer provided is multiple times beyond the budget that was allocated. Some items she listed are three times what she originally said or what I could find elsewhere. 3. They didn't communicate: I wouldn't hear anything from the designer for weeks until I would reach out to her; even an email to a third party that she said she sent actually hadn't been sent when I checked on it. 4. They kept missing things: I had to remind the designer multiple times to fix or change things in her designs.
