Where do I start with Scratch baking. I've been coming to Scratch religiously for the past year, and I've been quick to recommend this spot to others. Scratch is a newly designed modern bakery with tons of lovely treats and goodies. What I love about Scratch is how fresh everything is. The breads are amazing (the chocolate babka is to die for), and all of their baked goods are made with love. You can tell the staff are all happy to be there even when things are crazy busy. I am sorry but this is the most overrated place in Milford. Every time I come the cashier and people at the front are extremely rude. I came in at 10:40am and they said it was too early for lunch by 15 minutes, but yet they had barely any breakfast food available because they were out of a lot. They denied making a bacon egg cheese sandwich because they ran out - which is admitting that they make these in bulk in the morning so they are not fresh made on the spot. How hard is it to make a breakfast sandwich during breakfast? I ordered a blueberry muffin and it was hard, like rock solid and bland. I wanted to spend more money but there was barely any food. I've tried this place 4 times, never again always disappointed. This place went down hill once they moved and expanded the operation. Note for the owner - hire happier employees with people skills. We got good vibes from this bakery as soon as we walked in, with a friendly staff and interesting menu offerings, and then, we got very good food. Both the Chipotle Club sandwich and the Thai salad were great and big portions to boot. Ordered online for Saturday morning and everything my family ordered was delicious! Also the ordering and pick up was super easy and contactless. Bacon, egg and cheese sandwich- Buttery, cheesy, thick cut bacon, delicious, fluffy roll. Must try! Cinnamon + walnut scone- Delicious! Moist and not dry like other scones I've had. A good amount of sweetness. I really enjoyed it with my black coffee. Not sure that I really tasted the walnut, but I would highly recommend! Money Bread- Fluffy, light, sweet, glazed on the top. Not dry at all. Must try! Pumpkin Poptart- Like a pumpkin pie encased in a flakey puff pastry. What isn't to like? Would highly recommend! Bacon and vegetable Quiche- Delicious! Fun little bakery! Good breakfast spot along the town center greenway, with little tables inside for a meal or can get stuff to go. I got the breakfast pizza - with the vegan soy sausage and spinach topping. They heat it up for you if you want, brought to my table. Had a quiche style crust, with egg and crumble topping and cheese. We also got the bread pudding with raisin muffin, super sweet and tasty. Had a layer down the middle of raisins and crunchy textured top and pudding textured bottom. Yum! All recommended and tasty! Service was friendly and helpful, explaining the menu and food options. Stopped in while having to do other business in Milford. The place is well setup for ordering and pickup. You cannot eat inside as if 3/9/21. The staff were very nice and professional. Many of the baked product were displayed behind glass and it all looked great. The smell is wonderful if you like baked goods, and who doesn't. I ordered one of the cold sandwiches- turkey and Brie. It came with a cookie and I got the pecan chocolate chip. The sandwich was delicious and the cookie was great. I definitely recommend scratch. Simply done with great execution. read more

I was in the area and had this place bookmarked. So many choices; dessert, sandwiches, breakfast, lunch, coffee...uggh I couldn't choose. I went with a sausage egg and cheese and a small coffee. It was delicious...the cheese they use is so good. The sausage was a thick meatball shape, way smaller than the circumference of the bread. Basically you don't get to the sausage until the 3rd or 4th bite. However, it was so good. My only issue was that the sausage was cold in the middle. Since it was so thick the heat didnt penetrate the sausage while being heated up. Luckily it was so tasty I was able to bypass that. I want to try their quiche. read more

My friend and I went to Milford's 44th Annual Oyster Festival. We were hungry for lunch and agreed on this shop. Oh my gawd, they're so good! The staff are very friendly and nice. I stopped for a cup of coffee and a sweet roll in the mid-afternoon. The bakery closes at 4:30. The "tablet checkout device" is ok, except it presented tip options STARTING AT A SUGGESTED $2.00 for handing a $6.35 coffee and roll across a counter with very little "grace". A 30% tip is absurd and a trap for customers. I left a cash tip, which I much regretted in retrospect. I sat down outside to eat and the coffee was lukewarm. The bread pudding should have been on the discount rack. I know it was 2 hours before closing, but that is the time when freshness and quality should be "checked" for a reasonable, serve-able full-price product. A stale inventory should not be dumped on the customer. I reduced the rating for 3 to 2. I drink a lot of coffee and have enjoyed many such mid-afternoon stops in my travels. Yum! So fresh and so happy to support local. We had the quiche of the day and the bacon egg and cheese, with a chai latte and coffee. We walked across the street to the park and ate outside. It was cold, but the food and beverages kept us warm. The service was great, very attentive and patient staff, and the food is amazing. It's no wonder this place moved from a small spot near the train station to a main spot downtown. Looking forward to another breakfast there soon! the baked goods are not impressive, the staff and how the establishment is even less impressive. they can't manage online orders and in person customers appropriately. the employees AND OWNER are rude. I tried to order baked goods they had on display and they said they were already sold...online...I asked for another item, same thing. I tried a third time SAME DEAL, all sold to online orders. WHY ARE THEY IN THE DISPLAY?? I finally say I'll just take coffee because clearly this place does not service actual people in front of them and they tell me it will be 15 minutes...you guessed it because of online orders. if this is how you want to run your business then close the door and just do online. the owner then came out 15 min later to give me my coffee and basically tried and shame me for being frustrated (mind you I had my infant with me at the time). I can't imagine running a business so incredibly poorly and then also being rude to the customer. never will step foot in this establishment again. the bakery isn't even that good, it's not a loss. Edit to add: All the other negative reviews on yelp echo similar sentiments of long waits and rude staff. Their response below says enough about their attitude. None of the other negative posts have such hateful belittling as the manager response. Guess I struck a nerve with my unfiltered truth on what was MY experience. Perhaps it was a bad day but it was too terrible to not acknowledge and the lack of apology just left me in awe. Why am I being shamed for my experience? this response to the negative review with again an employee belittling me because of a "minor inconvenience" aka not being able to physically order food that is displayed further shows you how poorly run their business practice is. I would call this more than a minor inconvenience as it is quite literally the only reason why someone is at the establishment, TO ORDER. If you cannot do this it is not minor. Apparently one is not allowed to have an abbreviated name or a negative experience without them again bashing someone. Hmm ordered with their online ordering system a salad and two grilled cheeses and an iced coffee. I really enjoy scratches coffee, can't go wrong! I'd suggest ordering the grilled cheeses when you arrive at the shop because I feel like they need to be eaten ASAP and mine were a little cool with solidified cheese. I put it in my toaster when I got home and it was good. I was a little disappointed in my salad, it was their house salad that comes with a bunch of yummy fresh toppings, like candied nuts and avocado. My issue was with the dressing which was as thick as a raspberry jam and with the croutons, they really were inedible. Zero crunch, hard and chewy. I wish someone in the shop had tried them because I can't believe they were in my salad.. soooo bad! If they'd tried them I'm sure they would have been trashed. Whether you order ahead of time or when you get there, be prepared to wait 15 min for a single cup of coffee. The kids behind the counter do not care how long you stand there, they'll get to you when they feel like it. There is no rhyme or reason to ordering ahead of time either. This place is awesome! The food definitely tastes like it's made from scratch! I was so hungry and ate this delicious food so fast that I forgot to take pics. Luckily I got a pic of the apple cider muffin which is below. I got the Reuben which was one of the best I've ever had. It was nice and hot. And the manchego cheese in it is interesting. Honestly I never heard of that cheese. It kinda reminds me of goat cheese. Whatever it is makes his sandwich into the ultimate comfort food for sure. Also the cookie that came with it was not skimpy. I am a healthy eater, try to keep away from sweet things, but Scratch Bakery is probably the only place that can make me cheat on my diet. Absolutely everything they make, fresh in their store by the way, is delicious, and I can't help but walk over to their little downtown location and pick up a muffin, or pastry, or loaf of bread.
