This place isn't exactly crazy but it does sell cards, so the name is half right. It is one of…read morethose bargain card and gift-wrap shops that comes in handy at Christmas time or when you have loads of birthday come at once. The cards are cheap, though they aren't exactly fancy or arty. There are also some gift items, though they aren't the sort of gifts that I'd be inclined to give anyone, unless I really didn't like them. It isn't a bad shop and, let's be honest, cards normally end up in the bin after a week. So spending lots of money on them is kind of a waste.

Unfortunately, Crazy Cards isn't as mentally strange as I'd hoped, and the cards were quite standard and typical to most chain card shops. Having said that, the prices of cards do not replicate other shops; In fact, the cards are very inexpensive, and you can pick up most for around 70p. On the occasion that I went in, the store was pretty much empty and very quiet. I think that if the radio was played in the shop, people would be more encouraged and enthused to browse through the shelves. The general layout of Crazy Cards is also quite standard to most stores, but it's easily to navigate between each section to find exactly what you want. I also think that the store could be improved by selling a wider selection of party gifts, as this would bring in a different set of customers.

This shop definitely had the wow factor for me. Maddison immediately reminded me of this Sheffield gift shop and I was so happy to find a Brum counterpart! They have those good-enough-to-eat Yankee candles when you first walk in and as you go round there are just more and more wonderful gift ideas. I loved the cake stands and the cardboard versions that come as a flat pack. They have an extensive section of cards for all different occasions. The tea sets were so cute, especially the kids Hungry Caterpillar collection. Prices are a little steep however it's the perfect place to buy something special for a family member or a beautiful frame for your favourite photograph.

The combination of fragile looking vases and densely packed aisles means that I am constantly on edge - convinced I will break items or get told off by staff for messing up their display of scented candles. This is definitely the place to go if you need a smelly candle or a nice box of chocolates - up until very recently they stocked Thornton's but I'm not sure they still do - as I've hinted the layout is a bit confusing so they may well have been hidden behind a set of Monet table mats. Staff are pleasant even if they do seem to be on constant guard against shop-lifters. One of the better places to get a decent birthday card in Harborne though.
