I highly recommend Scruffy Tails Humane Society. I've done some volunteer work there and I have seen how hard they work, give so much love to all the animals, very clean environment , all the staff are very friendly informative and much more, they really go above and beyond to help all the animals get the best care and forever homes. read more

This is a great place to adopt a pet and it's getting better by the day! Also a great place to become a volunteer or and/or a home-foster! You can even get involved by joining the Board of Directors if you have a strong interest. read more

History

Established in 1982.

The Humane Society of Polk County, Inc was founded as a 501(c)(3) in January 1982 by passionate animal advocates, Mary Solberg and Valerie Hulst, with a desire to help the animals in their community. Over the past 40 years the Society, with the help of numerous volunteers and donors, has worked hard to help the animals that have come into our care by finding owners of lost pets and finding loving homes for pets in need of rehoming. In April of 2022, we assumed the name Scruffy Tails Humane Society in recognition of the strides we have taken to grow and develop a friendly, inviting organization for pets and community members.
