    My first dive

I completed the Open Water Certification with Scuba Center Temecula. The entire experience was spectacular. Starting with getting registered by Alex Milan (there are two Alexes). He explained everything clearly. After completing the online classes (which I learned later did a great job of teaching the basics although somewhat boring) which is a PADI requirement (don't blame Scuba Center Temecula), I went on my first dive using SCUBA gear. It was in a swimming pool, so not the most amazing thing, but getting to use the equipment and breathing underwater for the first time was an amazing experience. The pool training was long, but Alex Visselli (our dive instructor) made it fun and interesting. Most of the time, we were able to complete the "tasks" on the first try. When we did not get it perfect, Alex V gave us the sign for redo and we did it again. He would always show us how to do it again before we tried it the second time. He had a lot of patience. Although it was a long day, and only going to a depth of 8 feet, it was probably the greatest day of education I have ever had. The next week was at Lake Perris. We saw a couple of fish, but since the day was really more about training in calm open water, that was just a bonus. Once again, Alex V explained everything we were going to do before we went in the water. Then, in the water, we practiced all of the skills we would need for the open water ocean dive, and a lot of skills we will hopefully never need. Removing the weights and putting them back in was incredibly difficult for me, but I was able to do it much better in the lake. Finally, we took the boat to Avalon and walked over to the Casino Dive Park (the equipment was taken by taxi). We did a couple more skill exercises and then explored. At this point Alex V became more of a tour guide than an instructor, although we still had issues here and there which Alex V helped us with. After getting out and having the air cylinders refilled, we went back in the water for pure exploration. Alex V pointed out different fish. The highlight of the second dive was seeing a giant black sea bass. It truly lived up to its name. Alex V was an excellent instructor. He was patient and explained everything clearly, always asking if we had any additional questions. He made sure we had fun, while also making sure we had learned everything and could do it properly. His vast diving experience was a huge asset.

Listening intently to get all the details.

Fantastic dive program! The instructors are knowledgeable, supportive, and make learning fun. As the parent of the student....he left feeling more confident, skilled, aware and excited to keep diving!

They don't honor their warranties and when they do honor a warranty, be prepared for a bait and switch once you get to the register. I recently purchased a Shimano Speedmaster 20 fishing reel. The Shimano Speedmaster 20 reel started going in reverse just after the first use. I took it back to Turners and they said that there is nothing they could do because I used the reel. Of course I plan to use a fishing reel if I buy a fishing reel. What I am not expecting is for the fishing reel to fail after the first use. I explained this to the rep at Turner's and he said ok, they will honor the warranty. He said that they did not have the Speedmaster 20 reel in stock though, but would allow me to exchange to the Speedmaster 25 for $40 more. Sounds like a good deal, right? Ok, he tells me to head over to the cash register for the exchange. I get to the cash register and waiting in line. Finally they get to me and now the price is $180 for the exchange. The rep gives me some kind of excuse that he messed up in the pricing when he quoted me $40 more. My next experience with Turner's Outdoorsman in Temecula was when purchasing my first Blue Fin tuna rod. The sales rep Eric at the time, said he has a good deal for me and spoke about the amazing lifetime warranty offered by their Californian 60-130lb fishing rail rod. I examined the rod and the soft foam grip at the lower part of the rod. The soft foam grip seemed like a concern to me. He assured me that the Californian fishing rods are backed by their amazing lifetime warranty, and just bring it in for exchange if there is an issue. Eric convinced me to proceed with the purchase. One fishing trip later and I notice that the lower foam grip is splitting and breaking apart. The butt cap or protective end piece is also splitting. I took the fishing rod back to Turner's and Mason says he needs to call the dealer for those rods. Mason comes back and says, "good news, the dealer will honor the warranty and let you exchange the fishing rod". Mason locates me a Californian 60-130lb rod and says to head over the cash register for the exchange. I walk to the cash register and wait in line. My turn comes and Mason says, "Oh sorry, by exchange I mean that we have to charge you now half price for the fishing rod. The cost is $130". Just another bait and switch experience from Turner's Outdoorsman in Temecula. Not sure if they practice this, but Mason sure does have the bait and switch tactic down. Delay with key information on what an exchange means. Tells me to go to the register to complete the exchange and then pressures me at the cash register with the $130 up charge. Tells me that a lifetime warranty only covers the rod blank. However, pre-sale they will certainly assure you that you're in good hands with their amazing lifetime warranty on their Californian fishing rods. In this case I walked out of the store with my defective Californian fishing rod. When I google online about the Californian fishing rods, others also report that their lower grip soft foam is splitting. Some seem to have luck with Turner's replacing the defective fishing rod, others seem to report that Turner's wants to up charge them for the exchange. YMMV. I don't know if the same thing happens at other Turner's Outdoorsman locations, but just sharing my experience with Turner's Outdoorsman in Temecula, when buying a fishing rod and fishing reel from them. I've purchased fishing rods and fishing reels from other sources and never encountered an issue like this. Don't buy your fishing rods or reels from Turner's Outdoorsman. Don't listen or trust the pre-sale speak and quality claims from Eric or Mason.

They both have great knowledge and were a big help to this first-time gun buyer/owner. They let me handle a gun I was interested in, which is a cousin of the gun I ended up buying. Changing my order mid-process was painless. Bill as an ex-Marine has so much experience and a great rapport with his customers. I even got to see some of the unique challenge coins he has, something I'd never seen before in person. I learned a lot just by asking questions, and he recommended a great local outdoor range which I will very likely join. This alone will save me some money. I plan to order anything I can through their website to help our local store owner, especially ammo and some accessories and extra mags. Although things can get a little busy when it's just one person working the shop and more than one customer, it's Shangri La compared to the madness of COVID when I was looking to buy a lower for an AR-15. Imagine twenty people in line before store opening (Los Angeles) or standing room only in other shops. I learned never to go to gun shops in a rush. Plus, I always have questions and value the knowledge I get from shop owners and even other customers. Contrast this with Turner's in Temecula and wow, I had to wait at least 30 minutes just to find out I couldn't buy ammo until I'd been through the 10-day wait period and background check. One gets much more personalized service with Brass and Bass. Bill even field-stripped my new gun to show me how it's done. The service just doesn't get much better. Riley and Bill, you made my first gun purchase an informative and seamless experience, and I appreciate both of you! Thanks again!
