This is one of the popular spot for lunch with a view in Martha's Vineyard. Since it was off peak time, it was not crowded, and we didn't need a reservation. We each decided to get a cocktail to go with our lunch. We got Shan-Fusion Mule, Ocean Berry Booze, and Mudslide. One thing to note: The bees were crazy about these maraschino cherries that comes with some of the drinks. If you are afraid of bees, ask the server for the drinks without the cherry, or remove it immediately and put it far away from you. For appetizer, we had Clam Chowder, a traditional New England chowder with lots of clams, creamy and comforting. For main, we all got lobster roll. They had the cold and warm version, and we got the cold one called Island's Best & Biggest Lobster Roll. And it sure was pretty big and with a mountain of lobster chunk meat! It was really tasty and super satisfying! The $34 price sounds expensive, but I think it was worth the price tag, as it was huge and you get so much lobster. We had a really nice lunch here. The drinks were nice, and the lobster roll was quite amazing.

Our hotel at Edgartown was right opposite the Seafood Shanty so we stopped by to grab lunch. It was the first day it opened for the season and looked really busy, but we were seated just a couple of minutes after arrival. I'd suggest making a reservation if you can because lots of people stop by for the beautiful view of the water. Ample indoor and outdoor seating, and they had high chairs for infants and toddlers. The food was really fresh and good, but just a little under wow factor in comparison with other restaurants in the area. We had the stuffed quahogs as an appetizer and really enjoyed it, you could taste the cocktail sauce which added a distinct flavor. Also tried the lobster dip and lobster quesadillas, which were also fresh and creamy. There's a kids menu as well. The service was really fast and friendly despite the crowd. Definitely stop by for the scenic views and if you're in the mood for seafood (which you'd probably be while at the vineyard).

The Shanty has great views of the harbor and that alone is worth a visit. You can eat outside and watch the sailboats come and go - probably even better with an adult beverage. I ordered the signature lobster roll and it was just ok. There was sufficient lobster - the meat was average and the warm toasted roll was tough - not delicate and light. I also had the clam chowder and it was creamy but only lukewarm. Service was quick and friendly.

IYKYK hell YA. eat on the upper deck!! our table was right on the edge with a beautiful view of the harbor. As we ate an incredible lobster roll while we watched seals swimming in the water. It was awesome. Location is perfect with all the cute shops right close by and just a short walk from the lighthouse as well. Tried to convince my friend to go back the next day I had such a good experience!!

Beautiful view! Loved the outdoor seating option. No wait. The food was delicious! Chowder was smooth and creamy. The lobster roll (both warm and cold) was packed with meat. So good! The mussels were packed with flavor. The service was quick, accurate and kind! Absolutely would come here again!

Great views and food. All of the classics as well as a sushi bar. Excellent cocktails and beers on tap. Reasonably priced. Emily is the best server. Will definitely be back.

Tried the hot and cold lobster rolls, and both were delicious. The cold roll comes with quite a bit more lobster than the warm. caesar salad was a hefty up charge but it was a good portion. Side of fries were also a good portion and crispy. Great views from the rooftop deck, so highly recommend dining there when the weather is nice. We were told the wait was 20 minutes and were texted in less than 10 minutes. Our server and the rest of the staff was super friendly. Had a good draft beer and cocktail selection.

I'm not sure why the reviews are poor. The service is good. The large deck offers nice views. The food is pretty solid for a place that it doesn't have to be. We ordered raw oysters 3.5/5 (small), shrimp cocktail 4/5, Caesar salad 4/5, warm buttered lobster roll 4/5, PAN ROASTED MISO SALMON 5/5, and Boston cream pie 3/5 (dry). Good beer, wine, and cocktail options.

This place gets a lot of hype, but I was actually very disappointed in the size of the lobster roll and the quantity of lobster I received compared to the social media posts from others who have eaten here. The lobster roll itself was tasty though.

Excellent spot to have drinks and chat on a deck. The wait is never too long and the drinks are very good. The food - not so much. We started off with the clam chowder. Each person who ordered it ranked it a seven out of 10 or below with the majority being a sex. The clam chowder was way too thin, there was not enough seasoning, even in a lightly seasoned dish, the potatoes and clams were MI. Then again, my son who is sitting across from me and his girlfriend had all clams and potatoes. One of the few tricks in serving clam chowder is to stir it as your scooping. The lobster roll was very priced and had plenty of lobster meat. The problem was the lobster meat was flavorless. It had to have been previously frozen. Also not enough mayonnaise or celery. Then again some people would complain if there was too much mayonnaise or any celery. This is a very specific recipe that New Englanders are very fussy with. This was essentially a dry lobster roll = no mayonnaise no celery. California roll was also a flop according to the two of eight diners in our group who ordered it. There were no complaints about the hamburger or the chicken nuggets. All in all the view was great the food not so much. Hard pass for dinner or lunch. The appetizer menu was lacking. I recall being there and having appetizers and being happy but it seemed pretty slim today.

Atmosphere is lively and family friendly. We enjoyed our meals, service, and beautiful view on the top deck. I had the shrimp scampi over penne, my husband and son had the mojo chicken. Their chicken was a bit rubbery, but the rice & beans were amazing. We would visit again, but probably order more basic meals (burgers, fish & chips, etc.)

First time here(first time to the island) and I wanted a place with good food and a decent view and this did not disappoint. I sat on the roof top along the outer bar/counter. I ordered a foo foo drink and the mussels. Wow there were so many and they were delicious- they were on the smaller side but again there were so many I was full! Shout out to my waitress Molly! She was adorable and kind and helpful and attentive! She made the experience perfect!

I got the lobster roll, it was fine, not very good but nothing terrible. The fries that came with it were better than the sandwich. Our waiter took our order then disappeared for an hour. Someone else dropped our order and then we couldn't get anyone's attention for the entire time we were there. At least the view on the harbor was nice. A bit disappointed at the service especially spending over $40 on a lobster roll after tip and tax. (Honestly should not have tipped but the lowest option presented on the screen was 18% - and what am I gonna do? Click custom tip while the waiter is looking me in the eye over the little payment machine?) Would not come back here.

I stumbled across Edgartown Seafood Market on a whim, not craving anything in particular. I asked the guy behind the counter, "What are you known for?" Without hesitation, he said, "The bluefish spread." Let me tell you -- it hit the spot. Flavorful, fresh, and just salty enough to keep you coming back for more. We paired it with Wheat Thins and chips, and it instantly became a staple for us. Since that first visit, we've added their cole slaw and seaweed salad to our regular order -- both are fresh, crisp, and perfectly balanced. This is one of those places that makes you want to eat and shop like a local. The staff is always friendly and helpful, and you can tell they take pride in what they serve. If you're on the island, this is a must-stop spot. Whether you're picking up seafood to cook or grabbing ready-made bites, they make you feel like you've discovered a Vineyard insider's gem. Verdict: Bluefish spread is the move. Stock up -- you'll regret not getting more.

All I wanted that day was some fried shrimp and clam strips -- and for me, the strips are key because they skip the extra parts you get with whole clams. Unfortunately, they were out of clam strips, so we went with fried shrimp, fries, and lobster bisque. Since I had to share with my wife, I asked for extra shrimp -- but heads up, it's $3 per shrimp. Not complaining, just letting you know. The lobster bisque came out hot and creamy, but I was hoping for a bit more depth of flavor and a little more lobster meat and a little less bisque. The shrimp were tasty and fried well, but personally, I prefer mine butterflied for that extra texture and presentation. What stood out most, though, was the service. Friendly, quick, and attentive, which matters a lot when you're trying a local favorite. Overall, Square Rigger delivers a solid experience, but I left wishing for just a little more -- especially when you're at a place with that kind of reputation. Verdict: Good shrimp, great service, but I'll be back hoping for those clam strips next time.

A member of the family had requested this location for her birthday dinner. The person who answered the phone "Idk. It's Friday night. I don't have time for this. It's busy." This should have been our first red flag. A separate conversation and call at another time, the GM asked over the phone if we'd like a cake or something special brought in. Very thoughtful. "Yeah we'd love that! Thank you!" When we arrived at our reservation time, the table had to be rearranged while the party waited. Our party was 8 people. When we inquired about the cake, no one present had any idea what we were talking about. They kindly offered to put a sampler dish together which we accepted but all other food and drink took so long, we cancelled it because we just wanted ultimately just wanted to leave. This is a steak house. A few people at the table ordered steaks with a medium center. Plates were brought out and we were advised the steaks had a medium. Every single steak was completely grey inside(well done). There was not a spot of pink inside. We didn't ask for a replacement steak, we just let them know so they would be aware for future steaks and someone else's future steak! We didn't bother asking for the replacement steak because it already took incredibly long for us to get our food and we were hungry. The waitress never apologized. She didn't look like she wanted to be there and was awkwardly hovering between the 2 tables they had filled. Two new steaks were brought out which we thought was nice but it was also suspiciously fast considering our previous long wait. We cut into the new steaks, almost completely raw. There was a man that poured water for us when we sat. He was the only one that looked like he enjoyed working there and showed any real customer service. The menu says 8oz sirloin and instead you get a 10oz New York strip. A larger piece sounds good but it's not what we asked for when we were ordering our food. If you're going to serve a different cut and size, why would you not change your menu? Or at least let customers know when ordering. Drinks were HEAVY. Can't complain about the quality of liquor. The drinks would be put on the table and take almost 10 minutes to get the next drink. The bartender was kind a remixed one of our drinks when we asked to sweeten it. Just wish drinks came out faster. The other food was great! We had pastas, salmon, vegetables, and mashed potatoes. They were very tasty. If the service, and steaks were better, this place would be recommended as it had beautiful flavor. The steak would have been perfect too if they knew how to cook it!

For appetizers we shared the baby gem salad and the pork bolognese. Both good but the pork bolognese was a small but mighty star.
