I was able to get myself to the garage but they only charge 20Euro for a call out (local I presume), which seems very reasonable. The manager advised replacing, and I asked for longer lasting and quiet tyres if possible due to my hearing problem. He wrote a note listing 4 top brands and two digit numbers (too low for the all in price of 1). We discussed his recommendations' qualities before leaving. Upon arriving yesterday, a technician greeted me. I told him I wanted 4 Michelin tyres and gave him the mgr's note. He looked at it and said, that can't be the price, they go for 140 each. I said, "if it is, I want 4 all day long...so let's check". The tech said something to the mgr. I heard the mgr say, he knew that's decibels. I replied, I honestly didn't, in a normal voice, and said, "you could've written db by the numbers." The manager angrily said, "you damn well knew it!" With my integrity questioned, I took my keys from the tech and turned to leave without saying another word. The mgr approached me, invaded my space and said, "escort him to the door and lock it behind him", then followed me to my car. I ignored him as he slagged me with my shocked daughter in the car listening. This could have been avoided if Togher had a website with tyre prices and specs. An hour later I bought locally paying 2.50 less per Michelin Primacy 4 tyre (incl. rotation) than the stated by the Togher tech. I thought the mgr would simply say something like; no, that's not the price, they cost ... A bad day doesn't excuse this.

Their price was €6 less than Duffys but I wasn't sure if it was mid-range, I decided to go for it anyway. I bought the car to them and they started on changing the offside rear tyre, I asked the manager to replace the osr (the one behind the driver). The manager was pleasant and got me a coffee and a seat whilst the fitter worked on the car. When the fitter came back in he said 'all done'. I had paid the receptionist for the tyre already, but I went to check the tyre looked ok. It was just as well I checked because they fitted a new nsr tyre replacing one which was only two months old, instead of the heavily worn osr. I pointed out that the had replaced the wrong tyre and they refitted the one they had taken off on to the near side on to the osr. The fitter came and gave me my locking wheelnut key and said 'all done' for the second time. I checked around outside the car and it looked fine, and I gently went to drive away when there was an almighty 'bang' underneath the car like I had driven off a high kerb. I stopped the car and said to the manager 'what was that?' he said 'reverse up a bit and i'll look'. He then got the fitter to jack the car back up and remove a huge bit of wood like a chock he had left underneath. This all took a long time to get right, and I think the fitters should be better supervised if they are inexperienced. Maybe I should have paid the €6 extra and gone to Duffys...
