Long day of driving brought us to Seward and ready to eat. As we walked around we found Seasalt and loved the look so in we went. OMG this has been the best food we have had the last few days of traveling. This is a sister trip so we are sharing meals, tonight the food was great and there was plenty to share. We had the Dirty Fries and OMG they were amazing. We also had the Small Fish Bites and the Quinoa and Spinach salad. This was so much food and perfect for sharing. The fries you have to order they will be a great memory of this trip. The Salad and Fish were just as good. Service was top notch and Stanley, thank you for a lovely dinner!! Beautiful location, right across the street from the Sea Life Center. We came on a gorgeous August day. It was sunny, so we sat on the patio. The restaurant has some lovely old touches, such as the GORGEOUS bar, and many old light fixtures. Service was phenomenal. Wonderful attention to our needs. Now for the food. The menu leaves a lot to be desired. I wish there was a larger variety of salads. However, being that we were next to the ocean in Seward, Alaska, I ordered the fish and chips (halibut) and a bowl of chowder. The halibut was phenomenal. Being an Alaskan I am a picky fish eater, and not all fry is good. This fish fry was crunchy and flavorful. The chowder was yummy. Lots of seafood in it and very creamy. As a local, I'm always on the lookout for spots that serve real Alaskan seafood without leaning too hard into the touristy gimmicks -- and this place gets close. I tried the chowder bowl, and while it had a nice light, creamy base, it wasn't big on flavor. The seafood portion was decent -- not skimpy, but not overflowing either. It's not one of those chowders that leaves a lasting impression, but it's comforting enough on a cold day. The rockfish/cod was crispy and lightly fried, not too oily, which I appreciated. Flaky inside, well-cooked -- but for the price, I wouldn't have minded an extra piece of fish. A little slaw on the side would've given the dish a much-needed pop or contrast. Again, not bad -- just not super bold in flavor. Same goes for the calamari. My son had the chicken nuggets kids meal... pretty basic. Nothing to rave about, but it did the job. The vibe inside is cozy and laid-back. It's not trying to be fancy, and honestly, I like that. Staff was friendly, and the whole space feels relaxed and welcoming. Portion sizes could be a little more generous for the price, but the menu keeps things simple and familiar. In Alaska for a week, first stop Seward. 4th & 5th Avenue are dotted with several restaurants. We opted to pop into the Seasalt and glad we did. First off, we're visiting during the 'shoulder' season, so it's quiet, which is ever so pleasant. This restaurant has a simple decor. I love that they use worn dish towels as napkins. We tried just two things and I apologize for no pics of the food. We shared the bowl of Seafood and Seaweed Chowder. A New England style 'white' chowder it was delicious. I can't say I saw any seaweed but the chowder was definitely of the sea. It was like clam chowder goes salmon! It was delicious and a nice sized portion for two to share. Crackers came with but not my style. We also shared the Alaskan Sami sandwich was a combo of pulled reindeer meat (so it's lean) and smoked salmon. The sandwich was great and don't think that you're eating Rudolph. Many Scandinavian countries raise and eat reindeer. The only disappointing thing was that the fries were pretty standard 'pulled out of the bag' fries, but they were hot. Service was good. We received our water, beer, and condiments before the food arrived. It seems so petty but so many places fail at providing these things first that one's food gets cold. Like everywhere here in Seward, it tasted like a frozen box type burger from Sam's club or Walmart quality. Ambiance- nice space but we were the only diners there on a Friday 5pm night. Service- the waiter was cordial but due to his lack of smiling, he made me feel on edge and his expressions came off as critical. Don't let the beautiful exterior fool you. The restaurant is absolutely stunning from the outside, very clean inside, and the staff is warm and welcoming. The cocktails and dishes were plated beautifully. So pleasantly surprised about our impromptu meal here before popping back on the train back to Anchorage. Super warm staff - beautiful interior with dark woods, felt like a modern speakeasy. Food - incredible. We wanted something light and the crab cake and soup was a great choice. Seafood chowder and reindeer stew - both fabulous and filling! They don't skimp on ingredients. They have house wines - the red Pinot noir was a perfect pairing with the meal. This was my favorite restaurant meal during our trip. Other than waiting for seating for a long time because of a solitary waiter/host, our experience was excellent. The food arrived promptly and was excellent. They had great local beers on tap to complement their creative menu. My son and I split several items that were all wonderful - beet and goat cheese salad, warm bread with bmchevre cheese and raspberry jam and bacon and goat cheese fries. We were in heaven. Not a lot of places open on a Wednesday night in Seward so Seasalt it was! Came here with a party of 5 and we were seated within 10 minutes. There is indoor seating, as well as expansive outdoor deck seating. Also, a bar that would make one believe there is an expansive cocktail menu...which there is not (only premixed cocktails, beer and wine). I order the brioche bread appetizer and chowder. Portions are small, and the food is OK. It won't blow your socks off, but it will fill the belly after a long day of fishing. Overall it gets the job done, but don't expect to be amazed. read more

I came to the Sea Salt fully knowing that the food wasn't gonna be great, but the view is unbelievable. I was seated promptly on the deck as asked, and was told that I would get my water pretty soon. The water came about 15 minutes later and I asked for two glasses because I was pretty sure I wasn't gonna see another human for sometime, and I didn't. Eventually a server came and I ordered a simple hamburger, french fries and a beer . The beer came after about 10 minutes and was okay. After about 40 minutes a young gentleman came up and visited for a minute. He apologized for how long my burger was taking. I assured him that I was a local and understood that this restaurant has a slow kitchen. Eventually the hamburger came. This is why I gave this restaurant two stars. The fries were hot enough, but the hamburger was dreadful. It was a small, about a quarter pound patty, on a very large bun with half of a piece of lettuce, thin slice of tomato and what they called their gourmet sauce, which was basically the mayonnaise and ketchup stirred together. The seasoning in the burger had a very red tint and it was very, very salty and overdone. I had a few bites. I enjoyed my beer and acknowledged that I probably should know better to expect more. The next time I go to the Sea Salt it will only be for the beverage and the view, certainly not for the food. read more

I'm honestly only giving this place 3 Stars because of the poor waitress that was working completely by herself when we arrived starving for lunch. The smoked salmon was a bit lost in the sandwich and the reindeer sausage was cut in such large pieces that they kept falling out. I kept having to pick them up with my fingers and shove them back in. I can't help but think that the chef got a bit lazy and it should have been more finely chopped. I was hoping for something unique, but probably would have been happier with a different option. Honestly the sandwich was pretty meh at the end. ‍. I probably would not visit again. Gayle and I had just arrived in town mid-day on the Alaska Railroad. The Windsong Lodge wasn't ready to check us in until around 4, so we took the Shuttle into Downtown and started looking for a place for Lunch. That turned out to be a bit of a challenge. Several places were only open during the evening, leaving just a few Lunch options including SeaSalt. Upon entering, a SeaSalt sign was very clear that due to staffing shortages (here and everywhere) there may be a longer than usual wait time. We accepted that condition and were comfortable seated inside. As it turned out, table/bar service and time out of the Kitchen were reasonable, and our occasionally harried server was friendly and efficient. As for the food, I thought my cheeseburger was just OK. On the other hand, Gayle raved (positive) about her Halibut Fish & Chips. Maybe that's just a reflection of where we are on a sea coast? So what do you do when one spouse has a 3 Star experience, and the other a 4 during COVID-transition? Round Up! read more

Restaurants here are hit or miss being open, I'm sure for lots of reasons. This day we found SeaSalt to be open at lunch; it looks to be a nice old building. It had a large dining area and a long old, wooden bar. We ordered what was suppose to be deer and salmon panini- I do believe it had deer but do not believe any salmon and it was not a panini! It wasn't a bad sandwich but I wanted to see what the taste would have been with both and in a pressed panini.... wasn't meant to be. Start with the Seafood Chowder. Then order more! That is what we did and will absolutely do again. What we also did was order so many other things. It all sounded so good. We just couldn't choose. However, we weren't super impressed with the other items. I think the Alaskan Sami has real potential. Putting it on a hamburger bun killed it. Liven this beauty up, Seasalt! You've got something pretty good on your hands here. No bring it home! Beautify the presentation. I felt like I was eating something brought to me at a Waffle House or Denny's. But the potential is huge! I really hope they give this attention. They could hit it out of the park! The Halibut Sami... well... couldn't really taste it. Anything. It was pretty bland. And leads me to believe too that the fish had been frozen, not fresh. Again, same lack-luster presentation. The Reindeer Stew was okay. It's just that the Seafood Chowder eclipsed it 10 times over. It didn't stand a chance. The service here was incredible. A great group of people who are eager to please and accommodate every dietary restriction and request.
