The west field is used for soccer, softball, LAX. The public restroom is generally pretty clean. The east field is used for soccer and LAX. Both fields are used frequently by the various sports clubs in the area. Both fields are astroturfed for 365 days a year utilization. There's a playscape/jungle jim for the tiny tots on the north side of the fields in between them and the school. The north field is not as well maintained but is used for day soccer. It's a great way to catch a FREE sporting event and to get off the couch and the comfort of your home (hint). You can also run across the street to the Nathan Hale High School track and run a few laps too if you prefer.

The current pre-3 teacher (teacher Jeanne) is committed to play based learning and provides a great environment for kids and parents of many different temperments. Being a cooperative school, a parent or caregiver needs to be in the classroom for one of the two days a week, but I find I enjoy the days in the class, as I can watch my son engage with his peers, and on the days I'm not in the classroom, I engage with mine (the other parents).It's been a great community for both of us. if you are a caregiver with a flexible enough schedule to participate, it's a wonderful, cost effective school experience.

In general, our experience with all programs has been positive. The general ed program has some truly stellar teachers and admin staff. School spirit is lovely and our children developed a true love of learning. Class sizes are reasonable (in general, 20-25 students). Our kids have loved their specialist teachers for library, PE and Music. We were part of the PACE Program for 2 years. This was a fantastic opportunity for building community with other parents and participating more actively in an enriched learning experience. Our child got to take a spanish class once a week and had monthly field-trips - all because parents were involved and provided extra man power to allow these activities to happen regularly. Currently, we are part of the NFP program. Here, we are technically homeschooling under the guidance of state-certified teachers. Our children attend a few classes a week based on interest. These classes are project based with lots of social skills development. COVID notes: NSD was the first district in the USA to close in March 2020 and has remained closed through the time of writing with no re-entry date/timeline announced. The superintendent has been both praised and criticized for her decisions in this regard. While this is a frustrating time for all, the decisions of the district are clearly based on science-based evidence for best practice during the pandemic. One of the heavier criticisms of this prolonged closure is that student mental health has reached crisis points. While much of this evidence is anecdotal, I have not seen efforts from the district to allocate funds and qualified staff to addressing this crisis. For my family, we have sought mental health support from outside private resources.

This one is, by far, my favorite--he has been seen, included, & loved from day 1. He enrolled as a McKinney-Vento student last year while we were blessed enough to figure out a temporary housing situation. His school has a rating of 2/10 on the main school review websites. It is a Title I school with majority low income families, 78% of students being non-white, and almost 20% of students having IEPs or 504 plans. All students qualify for free/reduced lunch & are sent home on Fridays with a packed bag of weekend meals. The curriculum and day-to-day has been full of color, curiosity, and neurodivergent-friendly practices. He hasn't encountered any weirdness around having queer parents at this school & this is the first place we haven't had to educate his educators on alternatives to addressing parent labels, family tree assignments, father's day art, and the like. They talk about consent and non-violence and mutual respect and pronouns and gender diversity and make space for cultural celebration. Just a friendly reminder that school ratings systems are racist, classist, & ableist. Grateful for the universe leading us exactly where we needed to be & grateful for the educators who show up despite the limited tools they have to work with and make. it. happen. Sister Pat pulled out the yard stick would march us across the street in a single file line into the church for our sentence. Thank the lord for the 7-11 down the street to load up my pockets prior to going to school. After all Lifesavers tasted better then the communion wafer. Holy Family is a nice classic school & church providing Catholic spiritual teachings to the mass's including myself. I think if your a practicing Catholic you'll appreciate coming here. My one true & only blessing coming to school here was seeing the principal was a large endowed Italian lady who ran the school with an iron fist. I mean she was built like the wings of a 1957 for Cadillac DeVille. Needless to say I made it out in one piece but I'll never forget my days at Holy Family. I'm a sinner today but that year was a building block in my life. Someday I'll repent and I may come back for the cleansing of my soul & mind.

At one point he whispered in my ear "You could've told me to Fuck off with the offer I gave you". After he kicked me off the team, he told me the only way for you to be on the team is as a film analyzer, I would watch games and give information. Probably the most disrespectful thing someone could ask a serious athlete. The problem at NU is that as a Christian school there is no form of accountability with staff. There is a thought that a Christian isn't capable of atrocities, but as we have seen time and time again on the news. Disguising themselves with the religion to still have ill intentions and be overcome by human nature like Gary McIntosh. The most devoted Christians are sometimes the biggest devils; pride is the devil. I have brought this to the president's attention, and I was told by Dr. Castleberry that my accusations weren't credible and told me to rather place the blame on myself. The men's program hasn't had a successful year in all the time Gary has been there, no accountability. A former teammate told me that Gary spoke about not caring about winning. NAIA is a competitive league with many players seeking to become professional, do not go to NU if you want to have an athletic career. Gary allowed my teammates to tell me to "go fuck yourself" and even when they said it directly in front of him, Gary took action once by sitting him out for about 5 minutes. Coach Titus was also a witness to many of these harassments during spring season and regular season. I openly expressed to Gary my thoughts on the season prior and how I wanted to Transfer to a different program, I don't think my honesty sat well with him. While he was giving me phone calls praising how I was doing with the team, he suddenly in the middle of practice got into my face and yelled "GET OFF OF MY FIELD" after I hadn't moved into a certain position. Before he yelled, I told him " I thought I was in a good position" does that warrant punishment for Gary to turn orange like a red peach and yell while water falls of saliva come out of his mouth? Ultimately that was my last practice as I waited three weeks in "Probation" for him to come up with an answer whether I would remain on the team or not. In those three weeks the men's soccer team were throwing house parties while I sat depressed in my room just wanting to play. Days before the dropout deadline Gary wasn't responding to me, I had to get Vice President Rick involved. Well, I didn't drop out in time, so I am also 7,000 dollars in debt, debt that was sent to collections. I tried appealing this even when I have emails proving my intent to drop out before Sept. 28th and proving Gary was not in cahoots' with me. Vice-president Rick and President Castleberry denied my request without any investigation. After all I experienced with NU, I still followed the men's and women's team. Never missing a home game for either team, or even traveling to Oregon on my own to support the women's team during their playoff run. Rick was also in attendance at every home game; he never approached me after everything that had happened. I was an outcast at a Christian school, let that sink in. NU did get me closer to God, but not in the way I expected.

I attended First Lutheran Preschool of Richmond Beach when I was 3 and 4 years old (approximately…read more25-26 years ago). I was too young for kindergarten, but was ready for school so my parents enrolled me here. It is not a religious preschool, though it is located in the same building as the First Lutheran Church so in that sense it is a religious-affiliated school. It is the only religious-affiliated school I have attended from preschool thru graduate school, and the religious aspect in no way detracted from the learning experience. Most of my classmates continued on to the same elementary school after, which was nice for having consistency in classmates across grades and schools. The classes were fun and both my parents and I liked the teachers I had. Though I did get in trouble once for telling the teachers they were not the boss of me... We were allowed to dress up for Halloween in class and the best Halloween costumes I have had in life thus far were while I was going to school here. I left this school eager to learn more and looking forward to kindergarten, which is a testament to the quality of education First Lutheran Preschool provided me. To date, First Lutheran Preschool is the only school I attended out of the preschool, elementary, middle, and high schools I attended in which the buildings I went to class in are still standing. The buildings I took classes in at Sunset Elementary, Einstein Middle, and Shorewood High Schools have all been torn down in the past decade. So out of these four schools, First Lutheran Preschool has something that the other schools do not in terms of standing the test of time.
