Honestly I don't ever remember being in Seattle Lighting before...but Steve says we were. I said if that was possible then it was a very long time ago...in which he agreed. The primary purpose of coming here was we were looking for Happy Lights, a kind of light that kind of puts a person in a better temperament while the gloomy and gray weather is settling in for the season. This store apparently used to carry them but they no longer do. We tried a few different places in fact and these items were not in stock. So alas an online purchase is in order. But despite not finding exactly what we wanted we did find some cool and interesting looking lights to reference and get future ideas for at our home that isn't Happy Light related. So in that regard this stop didn't seem like a waste of time despite no item availability for what we were looking for. We did ask for assistance for what we wanted...and the staff was more than helpful and friendly to assist us with our inquiry. read more

Wonderful people, but way too expensive. Lamp shades start at around a 100 bucks and just go up from there. Despite the high prices they have some great stuff, just be prepared to pay a premium for it. read more

I have been a repeat customer for years now. Their selection and customer service are far superior compared to the local chain stores. It is my go-to place when I need to make a change in lighting. I was a frequent shopper of the local chain stores until I found these guys. They have such a selection of items that I find myself a bit overwhelmed. That is where the sales associates step up and help out. I have learned a lot from them about lights, colors of light, output, durability. Etc. If you are ordered anything out of the ordinary, you most likely will have to wait a few days for it to be shipped, but they will be upfront with you, let you know when it will arrive and call you when it does. Their prices are also comparable to the competition and of course, you can order some fancy lights and pay fancy prices, but if you just want some new can light options or bulbs, they have it and sometimes cheaper than the others. Also, their website is helpful, but I find it far more useful just to go in and talk to one of them. If you are making changes to lights in the house or a large remodel job, then you would be remiss not to check them out. read more

Had a great experience. Mary Ann figured out what light bulbs I need for an old-fashioned piano light, got them from Seattle by the next morning and staff was helpful when I said I would like to put the bulbs in the lamp and see how they worked. I then asked permission to walk around with my camera for a photography club photo project and they were gracious about that too. Went in today with a few very specific questions/needs, and though I wasn't able to find exactly what I wanted, the sales rep, Mary Ann, was AWESOME! She spent a ton of time with me, and gave very thorough, patient answers to my plethora of questions. I learned a ton about lighting/shades/ceiling fans, which will make the rest of this project much easier. So refreshing to see care like this in customer service these days. I am very disappointed in my experience. I found the prices to be high and beyond retail, esp. Home Depot prices. One could visit the display at Seattle Lighting in Tacoma and get some Ideas than go else where. I had purchased on item, it cost 350.00, and I had to hire an electrician to assemble and place. I was extremely disappointed when Edmund (the sales person) insisted it was an easy install. It was not an easy install and when I called him, I felt undermined and unheard. I just left this place. I was in here for 30 minutes and no one even acknowledged me. Nobody said hi, or asked how I was doing and they walked by multiple times. When I tried to walk up to them they immediately walked to the opposite side of the store. I dont know if this is normal for them, or they thought I wasn't serious about buying, because they helped people who came in after me. But I just bought my first home and was looking to replace all of the fixtures in my home - at least sixteen fixtures plus we are putting in recessed lighting. My husband and I had a new home built! One of the advantages of new construction is getting to select exactly what you want. That said, ALL those "selections" become overwhelming. All in, we meet with venders for: Lighting, flooring, tile, cabinets, countertop, security system, interior/exterior paint landscaping, fixtures and appliance WITH THE EXCEPTION of Seattle Lighting (Tacoma location) the venders were UNhelpful, UNavailable, did not return calls and most irritating did not have options available to meet our "allowance" Seattle Lighting did NOT try and force upgrades on us. We literally had thousands of options in our "allowance" Recently, I had a fixture issue and reached out to Mark. Mark (Seattle Lighting Tacoma) is the ONLY vender who returned my call. For my immediate service Mark scheduled me to meet with Nancy. Nancy replaced my fixture and educated me on LED. Her professionalism is much appreciated. If you are building a home, you won't likely get to "pick" your venders... if your lucky, Seattle Lighting will be your homes "Lighting" resource. "Pick" to work with Nancy and Mark. Don't waste your time here. We drove from Olympia, and needed lots of help finding pendant lights for our kitchen remodel. Not a soul bothered to say hello or offer help. The two (sometimes3) were giggling, chatting up a storm, and thoroughly enjoying themselves.No one seemed to care when we wandered into the storeroom. There was no indication it was a back room. Lightbulbs and parts galore...all for the taking. My husband finally found a chair to sit on, as he is on oxygen and needed some air. Finally, as I was redecorating the front window area (nothing else to do) some person wondered what I was doing. When I told her we came in for actual help, she said that, since I was carrying a file, I must be waiting for so and so.i could only say that they left me to assume this was aDIY store, and may I have a ladder to climb to the ceiling to get what I want. Then I said how sad it is they never opened up to customers since the pandemic. They should just lock the doors. Then out the door we went, never to return again. read more

We were so very impressed with Seattle Lighting I wanted to write a review. Their web site is excellent but we wanted to see the lights in person so we went to the store. They had a great selection to view. We had excellent service in store as our sales person drug boxes of items to look at from the back. When we purchased it was carefully wrapped to transport. We had to pick up an item and was at store as promised. When we picked up they put in car. We were so very pleased. Lights went up yesterday and they are perfect!!! read more

Excellent selection, terrible customer service. I just recently had a house built and my builder set me up with a contact person at Seattle Lighting. When I arrived, the first words from her were 'I only have 5 minutes.' She then led me to the cheapest fixtures, offered me limited choices and wouldn't answer my questions. I had to select some kind of lighting so picked out some I thought would work in my new home. Several weeks later, the day before the electrician was scheduled to install everything, I received a call from my builder. Seattle Lighting hadn't sent a thing over and, in fact, had no information at all on my lighting choices. I ended up at Home Depot that afternoon, quickly selecting items and texting photos and numbers to my builder. Thankfully, he was pretty quick and picked everything up right away. I have great looking lighting in my home now - but not so much as a lightbulb from Seattle Lighting. read more

We just purchased a home and have been changing light fixtures out as we make it through a room after painting and decorating. After my first purchase I had to go back to the store because two fixtures were "defective". At that time we also pick up two other fixtures and unfortunately we will have to make an extra trip to exchange one of the fixtures because it is missing some crystals. I did ask if it were possible to just order the stones and was told repeatedly they've been selling the fixture for years and have NEVER had anyone say anything about the crystals missing so unfortunately no. I was trying to support stores we have locally but Wayfair just might have won my business. Did I mention the closest store is a 50 minute drive one way?! read more

Wow! I am impressed... Unlike the other reviewer on this site, I have no need to have a forced greeting when I walk through the door. I am fully capable of browsing on my own. This is a store where a customer's experience is based solely on their own personal preferences. If you need help figuring this out then you need more than a sales person to say "hi" to you. Steve and I were in this establishment in the early afternoon on 1-5-14 after spending ALL weekend searching for table lamps for the master bedroom. We were allowed to browse unpressured and unmolested. ... It was a nice change from the high pressure at the generic big box stores: lowes, home depot, ikea, and the like where there were unhelpful, brainless employees, showing cookie cutter pieces of crap, or pushy sales people that insisted that we order from there store's website without showing us so much as even an example of the quality we might be purchasing. That being said, after browsing for a while through a very large selection of lighting (even gathering ideas for future projects) we found two different lamps that we really loved. At that point the sales person seemed happy to help and was extremely informative. Not to mention very VERY patient while we decided on which lamp to buy. Which did take a while, I am embarrassed to admit. I will probably always return to this store for my lighting needs. That is the lesson I learned this weekend... It is probably not wise to shop at a big box store as they are so generic in every aspect. When you need lighting... Go to a lighting store. When you need flooring... Wow, 3 employes at the front desk when I walked in (Monday morning 8/19/13 at 915am), Not a single person looked over at me, or even said hello. That's the first time I have ever walked into a store and not been greeted. I walked around for about another 5 minutes, browsing for floor lamps. Not a single word of assistance from the employees. Was very disappointed at the lack of customer service here. There were 3 people behind the counter. One was helping a customer, one was on the phone and the other one was doing something else but wasn't with a customer. Not one of the employees acknowledged us even though we walked by the front counter a few times. I'm not looking for high pressured sales. A simple "hello" or some sort of acknowledgement would've sufficed. I did make eye contact with one of the employees and I'm pretty sure he forced himself to half smile at me. This place isn't all that big either and there weren't that many customers in there at all - maybe 3 total (including us). Coming from a customer service background, I place a high emphasis on it and I don't think I will return here for my lighting needs. read more

After trying other stores, I went to Seattle Lighting looking for a ceiling fan with a light. They had a nice selection, and I quickly found one that would work. I asked the lady behind the counter for help. She immediately stopped what she was doing, took the information for my order, and five minutes later I was done. Wham, bam. Absolutely no customer service here. I would expect at least a general knowledge of the products for sale. The general answer received for multiple questions was "I don't know". I was ready to spend quite a bit of money until I spoke to unmotivated and unknowledgeable sales staff members. Unimpressed to say the least. I was reluctant to go to Seattle Lighting because I thought it would be too expensive for us. When I walked into Seattle lighting I was impressed by their selection of light fixtures and price range. I was helped by Edmund on my two visits. He helped me pick out fixtures that were appropriate for our new vacation home. His input was most valuable - our builder was pleased with what I picked out and fixtures didn't cost an arm and a leg. I went to several lighting fixture stores and this was by far the best choice. I can express how disappointed I was with this store. The individual that assisted us was not invested in providing high quality service. The response to many of our questions was to go and look through the catalog for the item we wanted to find. The items we wished to purchase wasn't available and when I called to see if it had arrived - after waiting a while on the phone I was instructed that they were closing and couldn't help me. Finally I came in to purchase the ordered product and waited 10 minutes before anyone in the store even acknowledged me - when I arrived home I found out that I was sold CFL lights in place of LED which we had discussed. Needless to say now I need to make a 3rd trip to this light store and that will be the last time I provide patronage to this location that really would do well in some customer service training. read more

Don't go to Seattle Lighting near Tacoma Mall. While they do have the products, their employees are not customer friendly. You are not greeted upon entering the store - even though the employees are looking right at you. You walk up to the counter and they won't even immediately acknowledge your presence. I bought lighting there previously and needed a replacement part. The employee "worked" very hard at saying it wasn't their problem to the point where my wife walked out of the store. It took me several minutes to communicate that I wasn't claiming a warranty issue - I just wanted to order a replacement part and pay for it. Finally, "LISA DYER" agreed to help, but said I would have to wait 3 days until she was back at work and that she would call me. I have never heard from her since. AND this reminded me of when I initially bought the product - that I could only deal with the same employee on the days they were at work. So why can't we order something and other employees follow up??? STAY AWAY!! read more

Provided a lighting solution which had plagued us for a week and helped us list a number of lighting options to consider for a house we own locally. Very pleased with this store. Seattle Lighting, Tacoma, WA. Terrible service, don't know what they're doing, tell you one thing and then after you have paid a lot of money, and come to realize you can't hook things up like they told you, no one wants to help solve the problem. They are RUDE!! Trying to get get your money back is a big problem. The Asst. Manager doesn't know how to work the register! Instead of reimbursing the $509.23 my wife spent, he charged her another $509.23!! That's $1,018.46. We had gone up to Southcenter to Lamps Plus. Had GREAT service, found what we wanted and got more for $509.23. My wife pulls out her card and it's blocked because the limit if $500.00 has been met for the day! Found out that idiot had charged her card instead reimbursing it. Another trip to Seattle lighting and arguing with Edmund. The guy just didn't get it!! My wife was very pissed off. When he called their Bank finally, they told him he had screwed up. Then he fixes the first $509.23, but still isn't getting that he still owes her the other $509.23 he charged earlier that day!! The worst customer service I have ever experienced. On initial visit we worked with the assistant manager. We explained what we wanted and the type of connection we needed. We wanted low voltage outdoor deck lighting with transformer box. The assistant manager showed us lights that "were compatible" with the low voltage. We ordered $500.00 plus in what we thought was low voltage lighting. What we received was lighting that needed to be hard wired. Of course the assistant manager was not there when we went in to pick up. I inquired about the voltage and the transformer box and was met with vacant stares. Finally the female associate rudely told me that we did not purchase that type of lighting and said we would have to hard wire. Not what we wanted at all. I was told that I would have to talk to the assistant manager who was not there when I went in to pick up and no one else could help me rectify the issue. One older gentleman very rudely said "that is what you bought, take it or leave it." We returned yesterday when the assistant manager was there. He told us that he never told us that the lighting we bought would work with a transformer box and then back peddled when we reminded him of what we went in to buy originally. I wanted my money back and waited 20 minutes for him to work it out. In the end, he charged me again for the same amount, though I didn't figure that out until I attempted to use my debit card later and was denied. Furious now, we returned to the store and had to argue with the assistant manager about how he had now charged me twice rather than crediting my account. He finally called their bank and was talked through his mistake. Once the first charge was rectified, I wanted the second charge returned and he said that he didn't owe me anymore money. I argued once again. He was very defensive and never tried to calm me down with an apology or calm words. He continued to blame me or explain what the receipt said. He tried to tell me that he had done things correctly and yet he had not. After waiting an hour trying to get my money back, he said he was sorry for the inconvenience. Strongly urge anyone considering lighting to never enter the doors of Seattle Lighting. read more
