How many ways can I say YUM?…read more I first experienced the wonder that is the Plantaganet one Christmas, when the the pivotal three couples in our group of 'kids' munched a glorious meal here. It was amazing. Salmon that melted in the mouth, steaks as soft as butter... Incredible. As a result we've been back countless times since and booked the entire place out for last New Year's Day, something which shall doubtless be happening this year too. If you can catch it in winter, do have some of the delicious mulled wine they serve at the bar. The bar itself is gorgeously decked out in wooden furnishings with lush little wicker cushioned seats and quirky features. The staff are super attentive and the proprietor is something of a character. But the real stars are the dishes themselves. This place does fantastic mussels (fish and shellfish are a bit of a speciality here), the meat is cooked to perfection and the sides they provide you with are insanely tasty. Oh and you must have the bread to pick at for the start of your meal, baked fresh and full of olives and sundried tomatoes. It's a rabbit warren of a place with winding stairs, and it's family friendly and harbours tons of charm and character. I can never wait to come back here whenever I leave Wales. Do try it!

I think the first review was already spot on but I'd just like to give mine for further support of this great restaurant. Apparently it's quite a well known one as our lovely B&B hosts in Llandovery had recommended we come here after seeing the dolphins and we are happy to have followed his advice. The menu isn't huge but the selling point here is fresh seafood and prepared to honour their natural taste. My scampi loving boyfriend ordered the scampi meal and I had the very fresh (caught the same morning we were told but not the one we saw on our dolphin boating trip) New Quay European Lobster linguine and it was incredibly satisfactory. The lobster meat was sweet, bursting with lobster flavour and it was the perfect pasta dish and spicy even - a slight surprise given that my boyfriend told me that we would not find good food in Wales. I could have easily had a second serving of that tasty dish. Scampi was very good but Lobster and in Summer, Mackerel are the seafood choices to go for. On a gloomy rainy day, the delicious food can be enjoyed in their cozy and beautiful pub or on a sunny glorious day, if you're early enough, you can have your meal while overlooking the bay of New Quay which is a treat. At sunset it could easily be very romantic and for a very reasonable price.

This has got to be one of the oldest pubs in South Wales, it's medieval and dates from 1380. I havn't eaten here, but there is also a well respected restaurant upstairs offering a good selection of seafood dishes. Dishes include: Brixham Crab Cake with baby leaves and lemon butter sauce (£5.25); Plaice Goujons with paprika and a sweet red pepper tartar sauce (£4.95); Roasted Fillet of Hake with a chorizo and roasted red pepper risotto ith tomato, garlic and orange sauce for £13.95 For the vegetarians on the day I visited there was: Tomato Fondue, Wild Mushroom and Aubergine Bake, finished with garlic crumb and poached egg (£4.95) and Rosemary and Truffle Arancini Risotto with a tomato, red onion and spring onion salsa ( £4.95). Although, guys... if you happen to be on a date in Swansea and want some place to take your date, stop in here because she'll be impressed. While they are known for their seafood, if you are not a fan of seafood there are options for you as well! We were late for our reservation, but they still sat us. Not only were we there in a group, but there were couples, and even a few families, so it appears as though it is popular with a wide range of people. I shared a starter with my date... it was scallops with a side of laverbread. It was the first time I had laverbread and unfortunately I just didn't like it, but my date really seemed to enjoy it. The scallops were wonderful! Don't think I've ever had scallops so fresh. I ordered the salmon with a nicoise salad. The salmon was just done wonderfully... not overcooked at all. The nicoise salad... garnish... whatever it was, I was not as impressed with it. I did have the sauteed potatoes, which were wonderful as well! My date had the scallops, sea bass, and seafood parcel. I tasted the sea bass and it was even better than my salmon! For dessert, we had the trio of bread pudding, apple pie, and creme brulee... Skip the trio and go for the bread pudding. Out of the three it was the best and I had wished I had just ordered the bread pudding! The staff were very attentive and very patient with us... there was quite a bit of wine and bubbly flowing, so you can imagine that our table may have been a handful for them, but they handled it very well! I really enjoyed the food and the atmosphere (no, not just because of the wine and champagne...) and hope to go back and try some of the other dishes... and of course have more of that bread pudding!

The beef was overcooked, the roast potatoes were burned (almost totally inedible), my wife makes better Yorkshire puddings than were on our plate (doughy and rather flat). The broccoli in cheese sauce was actually pretty good as were the other veggies. The service was good and prompt but they were very busy and several of the young staff seemed a bit overwhelmed. With a little research we discovered they are advertising to hire a cook. That makes sense. It has a very nice pub atmosphere and I particularly liked the Royal Navy cap tallies over the bar.

We initially wanted to go somewhere else as it had 4.5 star rating on yelp but that other place was closed on a Sunday so we re-yelped and found this absolutely fabulous little hidden gem very close to the hotel we were staying at, the Cleddau Bridge Hotel. As we parked the car, we said to ourselves, wow this place is gorgeous and it seems that not too many people know about it. We were super hungry as we'd just spent a day in Skomer and so when the food came it was bliss. EVERYTHING was so delicious and I dare say it's not because we were very hungry. We had the steak and stilton pie, the Sirloin steak with creamy mushroom sauce and gloriously fried fish and chips and ended with the crumble of the day. The pie was simply perfect, the steak was a great showcase of Welsh beef and it's sauce was one of the best mushroom sauce I've had and the battered fish was perfectly fried. Crumble was lovely. Oh dear, I'm hungry just writing this review. OK - now to the visuals. The pub itself and interior is nice and cozy. Quite pretty in fact with cute decorations here and there. And then there's the outside. We would have sat outside if we hadn't been outdoors on an island with no shade for 5-6 hours as the view was just lovely. You could easily come here on a beautiful evening and have a very romantic (and as above, DELICIOUS, meal) seeing the sunset on the River Cleddau. Needless to say that we will be back here again on our next trip in Wales :)
