Attending church today was very disappointing. This was only my third Sunday here and as we are nearing the election I expected encouragement to go out to vote but today is not what happened at all. We finished singing worship songs and after that the pastor tells us we have a guest speaker (which no one was aware of until that exact moment). And it ended up being Trey Gowdy, a former congressman. Once the pastor leaves the stage for the livestream to take place, we immediately see a montage of videos of Trey Gowdy in congress talking to Hilary Clinton and a former FBI and more clips of him in action. It was very shocking and uncomfortable to witness. So this livestream went on for about 30 min in place of the Sunday sermon and Trey Gowdy made some comments about black people in America, compared the election to Jesus dying on the cross and Barnaby being let free (WHICH IS BLASPHEMY to even compare an election to Jesus dying for our salvation), and was quite obviously trying to sway church goers to vote for a specific party member. I and many others were expecting a bible driven sermon as usual but instead this took place. It felt deceitful of the pastor to not announce that this guest was going to speak ahead of time, that they led service as usual with no indication of this event occurring, and not having our usual worship service. We did not get to open our bibles or learn about Jesus not once today! This church prioritized the election over Jesus today and for that I will not be returning. They allowed a former congressmen to talk politics and blaspheme Jesus and for that I will not be returning. Politics of this nature should not be in church what so ever. This whole ordeal reminded me of the the story of Jesus turning tables over when witnessing gambling and buying/selling of goods inside of the church, except in this case it was the church trying to persuade church goers , who came to worship Jesus, of who to vote for. This is not the churches place to host an event like this nor is it appropriate or legal for a 501(c) organization to try sway the vote. All I kept thinking about was how disappointed the Lord must be in that moment. Also, imagine it was someone's first time at that church and this is what they see. It would make anyone want to leave regardless of political orientation. The principle of the matter has nothing to do with what side the church was trying to sway us toward but everything to do with not worshiping the Lord and reading the Word of the Bible, but replacing the sermon with politics. It was VERY divisive to do and the Holy Spirit within me knew it was absolutely wrong and to never return. That was the devils work at play that we witnessed at church today. My advice to fellow Christian's that love Jesus and put him above all is to not go to this church. Go to a church that does not replace the Sunday service with unwarranted politics!!! read more
