This is not our regular church, and we've only been here once, but in that one visit it was a 10…read moreStar experience- without a doubt! I was familiar with Heritage Church prior to our visit, (I bring donations to their food pantry) and knew they were running 7 services over Easter weekend. I asked my kids if they would like to attend on Saturday as we we near the church- they screamed with excitement!! No joke! So to service we went! The building is situated in the back end of the parking lot, with ample parking. We walked in and we immediately greeted from all angles. I said it was our first time, and without hesitation a friendly woman walked me back to the kids area. Insert the WOW factor here!! The theme was the current movie "Sing" with giant movie quality cardboard cutouts all over. My kids gasped and screamed in excitement- the place had a Playscape inside! The kids area is set up by ages, so that the children learn and play with peers of same age. Everyone was so friendly, it was an amazing community and I instantly felt welcomed. I couldn't get over how many people were buzzing around the building yet it all flowed effortlessly. After I checked all 5 of my kids into their designated area I made my way to the auditorium. Again, nothing but welcoming gestures, hellos and smiling faces. The service was great and the band was mind blowing! That band!! Oh man- uplifting, energetic and really sang messages that spoke to your heart. It was a great service, words don't do it justice. And yes, I'm ok admitting that a few tears were shed during my time there. God is good! My kids had a blast, I loved it. If you're looking for somewhere to belong, or are just curious about Heritage church I say GO! Go check them out. I'll be back.

We LOVE Heritage Church! It's a great place for families!…read more Our kids enjoy HCkids and my middle schooler loves Wednesday night youth group! The worship music is amazing and every week there is a great message.

For a girl who grew up in traditional Catholic church, it took me a while to get used to the casual dress (even the pastor wears jeans), and contemporary praise band music, and relaxed feel of the services. But, I like it. It's welcoming, relatable, and authentic. Services meet in the auditorium of Detroit School of Arts - which may be my only gripe. While large and spacious, it just doesn't feel "churchy" to me (although this may be a pro to others, lol). Hopefully they will acquire a space of their own to meet in soon. Throughout the week there are small neighborhood groups that meet for further opportunity to socialize and discuss that week's message. There are various ministries you can join, that assure everyone has an outlet for their gifts and talents. I hope to see Woodside continue to grow and find new ways to serve the Detroit community!

One time, the pastor asked us to break up into groups to do an exercise. I stared straight ahead as not one person asked me to be in a group. They don't care. They are more concerned with your tithing, and as it's a mega church, it's hard to fit in. Not recommended unless you are a snob concerned about keeping up with the Joneses.

Lord knows God is sitting in Heaven with a green accounting hat making sure you paid your 10%. She even took classes at this church. A couple years back her mother passed away and she asked the church to allow her to do a service and the repast as they usually do for members. The church sent some pastor over on a Friday night. He told my wife they would have to determine if she was a member and that would take until Tuesday to figure out. (Even though I THINK the church is open on Sunday). Her family was flying in on Wednesday, so she was really pressed for time. She ended up doing the service and repast at her cousin's church. This church cashed my wife's checks for 20 plus years but when the time came that my wife needed the comfort of her home church these devils somehow couldn't figure out if she was a member. Lucky for that demon, I wasn't home at the time because I'd have told him off and maybe more. You're not going to find salvation at this church. They just want to make sure pastor Butler can put gas in his yacht and enjoy his mansions. They ain't helping anyone but themselves.
