I grew up in SoCal and lived in the peninsula prior to moving up to Sonoma Co. I'm very particular…read moreabout my Korean food and found maybe one/two places in Santa Clara that I would give my seal of approval. I was very surprised to try and like Soban, especially here in Petaluma. The menu is limited, but I think it rivals authentic Korean food found in the city or peninsula just the same. My only gripe is the food can take forever. It seems like a small team running the place, so be prepared to wait a bit.

I have gotten takeaway a few times and finally had the opportunity to dine in at Soban. I…read moreappreciate this is one of the few authentic Korean restaurants in the North Bay. Sadly a lot of the dishes were lacking. Banchan: Good selection, their kimchi was more mature and sou. I don't love that they charge for refills. Gimmari: was one of the best things we ate at Soban. Crispy on the outside and the noodles on the inside were perfect. Soban Chicken: This was the most disappointing Korean fried chicken I have had in a long time. It was dry and lacked flavor. Pan Fried Mackerel: This was okay. Slightly overcooked but my toddler and I enjoyed it. Kimchi Bibim Guksoo: The noodles were good but the Kimchi again was on the more mature side which made the noodles overly sour. I would still come back to Soban given it is one of the few options for authentic Korean food in the North Bay.

Finally got to Petaluma to visit this place! It's like Korean chicken fast food but it's very good!…read moreIt has a decent amount of seatin, and the workers are nice and friendly! Sweet Potato Waffle Fries (5/5 stars) - You know what's wrong with sweet potato fries? They get soggy. These solve the soggy problem! They have that delicious sweet potato flavor and are very crunchy! Veggie Postickers (5/5) - They do not skimp on seasoning! The inside is super flavorful, and there's edamame! My partner really enjoyed the chicken saying they were juicy and flavorful. Also great deal on Mondays and Tuesdays where wings are $1 each (max 15, dine in only) Overall, for fast food this is excellent!

However I do agree that even the spicy has a bit of sweet to it. I got the garlic flavor chicken and got a bit of the spicy sauce on the side, but it had a sweet taste to it. I'm more a spicy person v spicy/ sweet flavor. The chicken Sandwhich also was a bit sweet. However the fries are really good. I just wish the spicy sauce was actually spicy with no sweet. I will say I am looking to come back to try their bulgogi fries. They looked pretty good. Service was quick, staff were friendly. There is an option to basically order on a screen but i choose to order with the worker. He was nice and let us browse before ordering. The place is clean, and has a few tables.

My son had the BBQ chicken dish and he was also impressed, although he would have preferred that it had a lot more (he's a "growing boy " with a big appetite). The service was very attentive. The waitress came by several times to check on us. I think the most impressive thing about the whole dining experience was the fact that the "Korean Mama " that is the main chef came to our table to ask if I was Korean. I told that I was Japanese and that we were very happy with the food and that we would definitely be back. Mt hubby was blown away with the fact that she came to our table! He said that that was the first time he's ever seen anything like that! Overall a very awesome place to get Korean food! We will definitely be back soon!

She came to check on us and talked to us afterwards. I usually eat smaller portions but I was surprised to finish my plate. I had the Unagi rice plate. It was delicious and really good size Unagi. I truly enjoyed it. My husband ordered the Beef BBQ rice plate. It is ribeye beef, tender, flavored perfectly and another generous portion. We came to find out that this small restaurant was nominated for being one of the best Korean restaurants and I can agree. I highly recommend this place if you are ever in the area.

The sushi place I went to the previous night left me unsatisfied and yearning for more and better sushi. As an introvert, I prefer to come to restaurants on their off hours. To my surprise, even at 1:30 PM the place was busy. There were plenty of tables, but there were also plenty of patrons. Most of them were Korean, which is always a good sign when you go to a Korean/Japanese restaurant. The server and she was the only one was extremely nice. In her younger days, I'm sure she would've passed for a K-pop star. I knew what I wanted from the menu because I searched their website the night before. I ordered the 25 piece sashimi dish. It comes with a salad and miso soup. The salad was tasty with a nice light dressing that didn't overpower the other foods. The miso soup was perfect. It was not too salty as the other place that I had visited. The star of the afternoon was the sashimi plate. It came out on the bed of ice that was huge! My eyes bulged when I saw how much food was on there. In today's shrink-flation I was expecting smaller portions but I was wrong. There were so many varieties of fish that all tasted amazing. I'm not a big fan of octopus, but this one was perfect. It wasn't chewy and the sizes were small enough to fit in my mouth without feeling like I ate a large rubber band. I'm not sure of all the fish that were on there, but most of them would qualify as my favorites. I'm so glad they did not add the omelette thingy that I absolutely hate. Between the sashimi, the miso soup, and the salad I was completely satisfied and happy. I know there are other places in Santa Rosa that are probably better, but this will be my go to place when I'm craving sushi sashimi. They also have Korean dishes, but I've not tried any of them yet. Perhaps the next visit, I will try them out. Maybe what I will do is order the smaller 15 pieces and add a Korean dish. Many thanks to the chefs and the server for a magnificent experience.g
